Tower Heist (2011)

Greetings everyone. I welcome you all to a new week. In today's post, I will be making a review of the Tower Heist. It was released about fourteen years ago.

Tower Heist is an action-comedy that gives us a narrative on the widespread public resentment towards Wall Street excesses which occurred around the year of 2008 financial crisis. Brett Ratner was the brain behind the directing of this movie.

We see amazing casts like Eddie Murphy, who plays the role of petty thief and the mastermind behind the heist, and also the iconic Ben Stiller who takes the leading role as Josh Kovacs. We see him take the character of an organized and dedicated building manager of a luxurious New York City high-rise. When the building's top-floor resident, Arthur Shaw, who was played by Alan Alda, is revealed to be a con artist who has stolen the entire staff's pensions, this makes Kovacs enraged. With his inability to take legal actions to bring absolute justice, he comes up with an audacious plan; which is to break into Shaw's heavily guarded penthouse apartment and steal back what was rightfully taken.

So watching this movie, it seemed to me like more of a "Robin Hood" concept taking place; stealing from those in power what was indirectly stolen from the poor masses and returning it back to the poor masses.

Ben Stiller is undoubtedly the center of attraction in this movie. I like the actor for his more awkward comedic roles. We can see his degree of earnestness and determination, while other notable comedic characters revolve around him.

But then the real standout in this film is Eddie Murphy, known as Slide, who is a street-smart petty criminal whom Kovacs approaches in order to mastermind the operation. He was a great addition to the movie. His scenes, particularly those where he's "training" the amateur thieves, are among the film's funniest.

The area I found the movie to fall short was the drag in time before they got to the actual Heist which was the main concept of the film. But after the operation had taken place it all made sense and showcased a sense of realism in the sense that planning such a big heist required serious calculation and planning in order to pull it off. One of the heist scenes I found really fascinating was the lowering of a car from a skyscraper during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I didn't know whether to be impressed and remain puzzled by the possibility of such a thing happening.

Tower Heist is a good movie I had a good time watching and I'll guarantee that anyone who has a good taste for movies would find this one equally satisfying. It has that “revenge against the rich” vibe that makes me sometimes wish such can happen in real life with me witnessing it. How awesome that would be! I give the movie a 9 out of 10 rating. It was worth the watch.
