Zero Contact (2022) | Movie Review | ENG/ESP
This must truly be the definition of a marmite movie, you'll either love it or you'll hate it. Personally, I'm a fan of the sci-fi thriller genre, mixing sci-fi with futuristic AI concepts, and weaving it around a high stakes plot is right up my street. I was hooked and enjoyed it quite a bit!
Zero Contact is a bit of a unicorn, first in it's class, the first movie to ever be produced fully virtually via video conferencing. For the most part this production method can mostly be attributed to the fact that the movie was cooked up during the 2020 global pandemic, where 'lock down' was a shiny new term that millions of people had to get used to.
Esta debe ser realmente la definición de una película que o te encanta o te repugna. Personalmente, soy fan del género de thriller de ciencia ficción, que mezcla la ciencia ficción con conceptos futuristas de inteligencia artificial, y lo entrelaza con una trama de alto riesgo, lo cual es justo lo que me gusta. ¡Me enganchó y la disfruté bastante!
Zero Contact es una especie de unicornio, la primera de su clase, la primera película que se ha producido íntegramente de forma virtual a través de videoconferencias. In my opinion the star of the show is undoubtedly the character of Finley Hart, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, but you would be forgiven for arriving at a completely different decision by the end of the movie, it is somewhat open to interpretation. His role isn't massive but it's threaded through the entire storyline very neatly. I'm fairly biased anyway as I'm a huge fan of Hopkins, there's something really special about his acting ability, and the delivery of his role of eccentric tech billionaire, he hits the nail on the head.
For some the storyline might be a bit technical so potentially a little hard to follow. In a nutshell we have Finley, head of a global tech company Hart Enterprises, which is responsible for any number of world technological advancements. He has been ousted from his company after some dramatic life events. It later transpires that the software and solutions the company produced may have been spying on customers and also that a large amount of company funds was stolen by Finley to help develop a secret project known as the Quantiuum Initiative.
En mi opinión, la estrella de la película es sin duda el personaje de Finley Hart, interpretado por Anthony Hopkins, pero se te perdonaría si al final de la película llegases a una conclusión completamente diferente, ya que está algo abierto a interpretación. Su papel no es muy importante, pero está muy bien entretejido a lo largo de toda la trama. De todos modos, soy bastante parcial, ya que soy un gran admirador de Hopkins. Hay algo realmente especial en su capacidad interpretativa, y en la forma en que interpreta su papel de excéntrico multimillonario tecnológico, da en el clavo.

Due to the global pandemic the movie couldn't be filmed in the traditional Hollywood sense, instead lots of footage was recorded across 17 different countries and later edited. To get around the issue of none of the main characters being able to be in the vicinity of each other most of the storyline is executed in the context of a web call, that has been convened by a mysterious AI Agent.
Once all of the main characters are brought online into the same web call the story very quickly kicks off and a swathe of information is intricately laid out to the viewer. Early on, it would be safe to say that there are more questions than answers, as the viewer scrambles to understand what is going on but it's definitely edge of the seat stuff!
Debido a la pandemia mundial, la película no pudo rodarse al estilo tradicional de Hollywood, sino que se grabaron muchas secuencias en 17 países diferentes y posteriormente se editaron. Para sortear el problema de que ninguno de los personajes principales pudiera estar cerca de los demás, la mayor parte de la trama se desarrolla en el contexto de una videollamada, convocada por un misterioso agente de inteligencia artificial.
Una vez que todos los personajes principales se conectan a la misma videollamada, la historia arranca rápidamente y se presenta al espectador una gran cantidad de información de forma intrincada. Al principio, se podría decir que hay más preguntas que respuestas, ya que el espectador se esfuerza por comprender lo que está sucediendo, ¡pero sin duda es algo que te mantiene en vilo!

Tension starts to mount as the 'gravity' of the Quantiuum Initiative is slowly teased out by the Company members assembled and Finley's own Son, all of whom are on the call. They discuss the implications of the invention, and possible side effects of what could happen if it were ever fully turned on and while that is going on in parallel a few unfortunate events start happening to the members taking part in the call to heighten suspicion, and tension even further!
I've probably already said too much, but it's hard to sell it without sharing a decent wedge of the story, definitely worth a watch.. you might just be surprised.. Either way it's a remarkable achievement!
La tensión comienza a aumentar a medida que los miembros de la empresa reunidos y el propio hijo de Finley, todos ellos participantes en la llamada, van desentrañando poco a poco la «gravedad» de la Iniciativa Quantiuum. Debaten las implicaciones del invento y los posibles efectos secundarios que podrían producirse si se activara por completo y, mientras eso ocurre, comienzan a sucederse una serie de desafortunados acontecimientos que aumentan aún más las sospechas y la tensión entre los participantes en la llamada..
Probablemente ya he dicho demasiado, pero es difícil venderlo sin compartir una parte importante de la historia, sin duda vale la pena verlo... puede que te sorprenda... En cualquier caso, ¡es un logro extraordinario!
