MOVIE REVIEW: GHETTO MOTHER
Just like it is always said "do not judge a book by it's cover" I actually did judge this movie at first but after I gave it a try it was truly worth watching. Like I had always said, I am not really a fan of Nollywood movies because you could possibly predict the end from the beginning and that made me to grow fond of seeing either an American movie or a K-drama, but after seeing this one, I guess I would keep watching more of the Nollywood series.
This movie reminded me of my childhood days where I was cared for by my mum alone. I have been there before so it was very easy to relate, Children that are being raised by only single parents most of the times may face unique challenges like emotional challenges and financial constraints.
The movie actually broke my heart in the best way, I didn’t expect it to hit me so hard, but it did. Ghetto Mother made me feel so much pain, anger, love, and even guilt. It showed me a kind of suffering I sometimes forget exists. The woman in this movie went through hell, yet she still smiled for her daughter. Honestly, I almost cried watching her, this is not just a movie it’s someone’s real life that has been scripted and displayed.
SUMMARY OF THE MOVIE
Ghetto Mother tells the story of a woman whose name was Tamar, living in the ghetto with her daughter. She had No husband, no support, just her fighting every single day to give her daughter food, safety, and love. She just wanted to survive, she was a young mother that fought the world in her own little imperfect ways for her child.
She rides her tricycle just so they could keep surviving, She washes clothes for people, cooks for people, sells by the roadside, even begs when she has to. It was not because she’s lazy but she’s just stuck in a hard place, like many women we see every day but don’t look twice at.
source In the course of her everyday hustle her only family ( her daughter) was neglected, not that she did not love her child, she did lover her child very much and she calls her My Smiling Spoon. But because she needs to work hard she never spent enough time with her daughter.
And we know that female children needs attention and someone they could lean on. Her daughter felt so lonely because she only sees her mother in the morning or very late at night. All she needed was her mum by her side, to care more, cook food for her and not noodles all the time, she needed her mum to take her to school and bring her back just like every other mother did. At some point her daughter started displaying some bad attitudes like fighting and stealing, thank God for the timely intervention of her mother's friend Vera.
Her daughter learnt some attitudes like speaking pidgin, dressing like a man and fighting from her mother but thank God the story changed.
Two other characters made the whole movie interesting to watch, the Doctor and her friend, they showed up for her and supported her in many ways they could.
WHAT I LEARNT FROM THE MOVIE
I learnt a whole lot from this movie
Ghetto Mother reminded me that behind every tired looking woman on the street, there’s probably a story you can’t carry. We judge too fast, We assume too much, but pain doesn’t always shout, sometimes, it just sits quietly in a woman’s eyes.
This movie shows us that being a mother is not just about giving birth, it’s about sacrifice.
It teaches me to always show kindness to people because I might not know what they are going through.
This movie made me want to hug my mum, it made me want to say “thank you” to her, it was after watching the movie I truly understood what she went through.
From this movie I also learnt that parents either mother or father ought to set good examples for their kids, kids act more from what they see than what you tell them.
I also learnt that, Parenting is hard, the role of a father should not be neglected in a child.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE MOVIE The acting felt so real, the emotions and everything, it did not need much characters to to send the message but with the few characters they were still able to pass on the message.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE SO MUCH Honestly, I did not like how the movie ended, the ending could have been more detailed, I wanted to know what happened next. I really wish the ending gave more, maybe a small ray of hope. It actually felt like it ended too fast sha.
And also, the sound was not clear in some part.
SO finally, If you want a movie that will make you feel something real, something deep, something that reminds you of the kind of silent strength many women carry every day,** Ghetto Mother** is for you.
Watch it, let it humble you. And don’t forget to check on the women around you they carry more than they show.
Sending you Ecency curation votes.😉

Every mum out dear definitely needs to watch this movie, it reminds us of struggles and inner strength that comes with being a woman
