The Griot | The Betrayal Of Friendship With A Tragedy End

What I stumbled on today when I was trying to check out what to watch on netflix today, I wasn't even planing to watch a nollywood based movie actually, there is this particular movie I was trying to look for titled The Vampire Assistantwhich I saw the trailer ads somewhere, but couldn't find it on netflix at all, maybe I will look for the video file on google and download it instead. Checking out this particular movie titled The Griot, it was kind of a movie made in the old age format but the male character (Lateef Adedimeji) draw my attention because he is always funny and jovial in movies but in this movie, his acts is really different entirely.

He acted as a shy storyteller who didn't have the courage/boldness to face the crowd or share is stories with those around him, that isn't the only problem, he loves a girl who is a popular singer but he find it difficult to express his feeling to her, along side, he has this guy who was his best friend, a trusted one that he decided to keep sharing his stories with him while his friend share it to people, but something was odd which I don't really like, this best friend of his was taking all the credit for himself and he was fine with it. As in who does that? This Friend was so selfish to the extent that he didnt care about lakunle and he plan to take everything even the woman he love. Due to the fact that Lakunle was so shy and couldnt express himself, he sent his best friend to help him talk to the lady unknowingly to him, the friend also like the lady (which I know he really didn't like her but just want to take everything from lakunle).

Things started turning out bad when the king made lakunle best friend a chief because of the story he told him when he was sick and decided to reward him. As a payback, Lakunle best friend decided to snatched the girl completely by marry her, this situation made him to open up and work on how to overcome his shyness and claim back everything that was suppose to be his from the beginning and along the way his best friend was banished as a punishment but he came back and took what is so precious to Lakunle in a tragedic way (mistakenly killed the lady).

My View

The fact that the guy was shy and couldn't express himself even to the love of his life is one part, but watching your best friend taking away your shine and what should be his reward is really not a good one. What make it unsatisfactory is the fact that it ended with a tragedy, I never expect it to be so because from the beginning it was fun and full of love, now he had to lose the one thing he only wish to have and it ended without knowing what will be the end of lakunle best friend.
