From the depths of space to the heart of America, the hunt reopens in 2018's "Predator," a vibrant reinvention by Shane Black.

• Shane Black, the writer and director of the new Predator, doesn't skimp on the details: he throws us right into the action, revealing the Predator from the very first minutes after an escape pod crashes to Earth from space. The brutality of the alien is evident from the very beginning.

Black, known for his dark humor, does not disappoint fans of the show: he introduces several species of Predators (hybrids), uses dark humor and brings Predator hunting dogs to the franchise for the first time. Their introduction is spectacular, but after the initial effect, they are completely ignored, having no significant influence, either for the Predators or the spectators.

• The team of earthlings gathers around sniper Quinn McKenaa (Boyd Holbrook) and is an unconventional one: a group of former elite soldiers, now prisoners of war, who serve more as a source of dark humor, seriously diminishing the combative element.

Shane Black moves the action (mostly) to the suburbs of the United States, turning the conflict between humanity and alien exterminators into a battle on the streets of America. The combat elements, while spectacular, are sketchy, sometimes rushed, sometimes unbelievable. However, the brisk pace and tense atmosphere keep the viewer engrossed throughout the film. Unfortunately, genuine "surprises" are completely missing, turning the ending into a predictable video game.
