Red Rose es una serie británica de drama y terror del año 2022 compuesta por 8 capítulos que hace poco fue incorporada en Netflix, su póster promocional llamo mi atención, así que aproveche para verla. ¿Qué horrores podría tener una rosa roja?, me pregunté, siendo una de las flores más queridas, ¿cuál podría ser el problema?, luego recordé que las rosas tienen espinas que pueden hacerte sangrar y la aplicación "Red Rose" la cual le da el nombre a la serie puede incluso acabar con tu vida.

La serie comienza con una chica que atento contra su propia vida por culpa de la aplicación "Red Rose", vemos como de alguna manera la misma controla lo que hay a su alrededor, llevándola a cometer tan triste acto... Luego somos trasportados a una hermosa pradera con un grupo de adolescentes que celebran que pronto irán a la universidad, unos amigos en particular son los protagonistas de esta historia y sus vidas se complicarán cuando una de ellos recibe una invitación para descargar la aplicación. Rochelle está pasando un duro momento y lo que ofrece la aplicación parece en primera instancia una luz al final del túnel, pero solo fue el inicio del fin y sus amigos serán arrastrados, creándose una serie de acontecimientos perturbadores que los llevara a darse cuenta de que Red Rose no es una simple aplicación y hay algo muy oscuro detrás de su existencia.

Red Rose siento que es una serie con un muy buen argumento, pero que no llego a alcanzar su máximo potencial, podía ser mejor de lo que fue, sin embargo, me gusto, es buena para pasar el rato. Mi razón para pensar que pudo ser más de lo que fue es que hay situaciones que me resultaron muy absurdas, me pareció que quedaron agujeros en la trama, se mostraron cosas que al final no aportaron nada al desarrollo de la historia y ni siquiera siento que hayan agregado profundidad a los personajes. Creo que el absurdo es lo que más le resta puntos a la serie, se entiende que estamos ante una aplicación que utiliza alta tecnología (¿tal vez IA?), pero aun así no se explican muchas cosas en cuanto a su funcionamiento y todo lo que hay detrás, de paso el final es abierto, por lo que las incógnitas quedan (no soy programadora, pero no creo que todo sea tan fácil como lo plantearon ahí).

La estética de la serie es bastante "indie", cosa que me gusto, ese estilo de pueblo frío o ciudad como atascada en el tiempo resulta atractivo para mí. En cuanto a los personajes, bueno, adolescentes al fin, hay algunos que me parecieron super innecesarios (las dos jennas por ejemplo, intento de chicas estilo "Mean girls") y otros que me encantaron (Ashley mi favorita), los actores hicieron bien su trabajo, de verdad lo pienso, me gustaron las expresiones faciales que vi.

Si buscan una serie de misterio y drama que los entretenga un rato, Red Rose les puede interesar y hasta gustar, a pesar de no haber quedado muy convencida, no siento que haya sido perdida el verla... Podía haber sido más, no lo fue, pero aun así está y no es mala, si logra enganchar más, causar tensión, un poco de desesperación y sentimientos de angustia. La recomiendo y por si acaso... No descarguen aplicaciones randoms.

Red Rose is a British drama and horror series from the year 2022 composed of 8 chapters that was recently added on Netflix, its promotional poster caught my attention, so I took the opportunity to watch it. What horrors could a red rose have?, I asked myself, being one of the most beloved flowers, what could be the problem?, then I remembered that roses have thorns that can make you bleed and the app "Red Rose" which gives the name to the series can even end your life.

The series begins with a girl who attempted against her own life because of the "Red Rose" application, we see how somehow the app controls what is around her, leading her to commit such a sad act... We are then transported to a beautiful meadow with a group of teenagers celebrating that they will soon be going to college, some friends in particular are the protagonists of this story and their lives will turn complicated when one of them receives an invitation to download the app. Rochelle is going through a hard time and what the app offers seems at first a light at the end of the tunnel, but it was only the beginning of the end and her friends will be dragged along, creating a series of disturbing events that will lead them to realize that Red Rose is not a simple app and there is something very dark behind its existence.

Red Rose I feel that it is a series with a very good plot, but it did not reach its full potential, it could have been better than it was, however, I liked it, it is good to pass the time. My reason for thinking that it could have been more than it was is that there are situations that I found very absurd, it seemed to me that there were holes in the plot, things were shown that in the end did not contribute anything to the development of the story and I do not even feel that they have added depth to the characters. I think the absurdity is what most detracts points to the series, one can understand that we are facing an application that uses high technology (maybe AI?), but still a lot of things are not explained as to how it works and everything behind it, besides the ending is open, so the unknowns remain (I'm not a programmer, but I do not think everything is as easy as it was presented there).

The aesthetics of the series is quite "indie", which I liked, that style of cold town or city "stuck in time" is attractive to me. As for the characters, well, teenagers at last, there are some that I found super unnecessary (the two jennas for example, an attempt of "Mean girls" style girls) and others that I loved (Ashley my favorite), the actors did their job well, I really think so, I liked the facial expressions I saw.

If you're looking for a mystery and drama series that will entertain you for a while, Red Rose may be interesting for you and even may even like it, although I wasn't very convinced, I don't feel that it was a waste to watch it... It could have been more, it wasn't, but it's still there and it's not bad, it does manage to engage and cause tension, a bit of desperation and feelings of anguish. I recommend it and just in case.... Don't download random apps.
