Hello, film fans!

I hope you are all well. As for me, I finally got to see a film I had wanted to see for a long time. When it was released, I kept seeing TikTok videos about it, so as soon as I had a moment, I watched it and really enjoyed it. The film is called The Housemaid.

The Maid is based on a psychological thriller novel of the same name. The film stars Millie Calloway (played by Sydney Sweeney), a beautiful young woman who lives in her car, has no job and nowhere to go, but seems to be hiding something behind her pretty appearance.

Millie manages to get a job as a domestic worker in the luxurious home of the Winchester family, consisting of Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried), Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar) and their young daughter Cece. Although everything seems ideal at first, what appeared to be a way to rebuild her life and get ahead soon turns into a dangerous whirlwind of seduction and power games, where madness seems to be the soul of the Winchester house, as secrets are uncovered and the mystery that haunts the plot is revealed.

I must point out that it all begins with an unsettling atmosphere and a lot of tension, where anyone who pays attention notices the details and the classic "madwoman's eye is never wrong". The story mixes suspense, drama and erotic thriller with games and power dynamics. Where everything seems normal and suddenly becomes strange or uncomfortable.

With sudden camera changes and intense characters that surprise the viewer, especially because of the parallels between the characters. I want to highlight that I adore Amanda Seyfried's performance, lively one moment but suddenly disturbing the next; Sydney Sweeney's performance, innocent at first but complex as her past is revealed; and Brandon Sklenar, who is quite charming. Many women made quite a few edits of his character, ha ha ha, wanting to be his wife.

A theme that stands out quite a bit in the plot is power and vulnerability, fragility and threat, aspects that interact intensely with each other, this being the dynamic that governed the characters' lives. Violence, manipulation, and seduction turn the dynamic in the Winchester house into a psychological prison; even so, Millie's strength and tenacity are no joke.

I must say that I saw the outcome of the plot coming, or rather the truth of what was really happening. And even though I suspected it, the suspense was still effective, as were the narrative twists that keep you, the viewer, hooked.

In fact, I even thought about reading the book because I read that the film simplifies many things, yet the film was very successful and well received, so a sequel was confirmed, which I saw coming since the ending of this first film paves the way for a sequel.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Por mi parte, por fin ya vi una película que quería ver desde hace tiempo y que, cuando fue estrenada, no paraban de salirme TikTok y videos de ella, así que apenas tuve un momento, la vi y me gustó mucho. Esta película se llama: La empleada.

La empleada está basada en una novela de thriller psicológico del mismo nombre. La película tiene como protagonista a Millie Calloway (interpretada por Sydney Sweeney), una joven hermosa que vive en su carro, que no tiene trabajo ni a dónde ir, pero que parece que oculta algo detrás de su linda apariencia.

Millie logra conseguir trabajo como empleada doméstica en la lujosa casa de la familia Winchester, conformada por Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried), Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar) y su pequeña hija Cece. Aunque todo en un principio parece ideal, pronto lo que parecía una forma de rehacer su vida y salir adelante se convierte en un torbellino peligroso, de juegos de seducción y poder, donde la locura parece ser el alma de la casa Winchester, mientras los secretos son descubiertos y el misterio que acecha la trama es revelado.

Debo destacar que todo inicia con un ambiente inquietante y mucha tensión, donde cualquiera que sabe prestar atención se da cuenta de los detalles y el clásico “ojo de loca no se equivoca”. La historia mezcla suspenso, drama y thriller erótico con juegos y dinámicas de poder. Donde todo parece normal y de repente se torna raro o incómodo.

Con cambios bruscos de cámara y personajes intensos que sorprenden al espectador, sobre todo por los paralelismos de los personajes. Quiero destacar que adoro la actuación de Amanda Seyfried, de un momento vivaz pero de repente inquietante; la actuación de Sydney Sweeney, inocente en un inicio pero compleja a medida que se descubre su pasado, y con un Brandon Sklenar bastante encantador. De su personaje, muchas mujeres sí que hicieron bastantes edits, jajaja, queriendo ser su esposa.

Un tema que destaca bastante en la trama es el poder y la vulnerabilidad, la fragilidad y la amenaza, aspectos que interactúan intensamente entre sí, siendo esta la dinámica que regía la vida de los personajes. La violencia, la manipulación y la seducción convierten la dinámica en la casa Winchester en una prisión psicológica; aun así, la fuerza y tenacidad de Millie no son un juego.

Debo decir que el desenlace de la trama ya lo veía venir, o más bien la verdad de lo que en realidad estaba pasando. Y aunque me lo sospechaba, el suspenso seguía siendo efectivo, al igual que los giros narrativos que hacen que uno, como espectador, se mantenga enganchado.

De hecho, hasta pensaba ponerme a leer el libro porque leí que la película simplifica muchas cosas, aún así la película fue muy exitosa y muy bien recibida, por lo que se confirmo una secuela, que ya veía venir ya que el final de esta primera película, da camino para una secuela.
