I hope you are well. Today I want to talk to you about a film that is very much of the 2000s. This film is a romance and drama with a strong musical focus and an iconic 2000s aesthetic that I loved from the moment I first saw it. The film is called Ugly Coyote.

It tells the story of Violet Sanford, a young dreamer in her twenties who was born and raised in a small town in New Jersey and whose greatest desire in life was to leave her hometown behind and become a singer-songwriter in New York.

Despite her father's reservations and fear of the big city and that Violet would end up heartbroken if she failed to achieve her dream, she decides to leave and rent a horrible room in a hotel in New York and devote herself to getting a record label to listen to her music. Not only did she fail, but Violet also suffered from stage fright, which she seems to have inherited from her mother, whose dream was also to be a singer, but who never achieved it because of her fear of the stage.

And after being robbed in her room and with no job to support herself, she ends up finding a very unique New York bar that ends up changing her life. This is how Violet ends up working as a waitress at the Coyote Feo, a bar and nightclub famous for its shows. Here, the waitresses dance on the bars where drinks are served, sing and entertain the audience with an uninhibited and rebellious attitude.

It is here that Violet discovers a new world, a place of chaos and rebellion that leads her to let go of her fears. In this place, Violet begins to emerge as a confident artist, while falling in love and trying to fulfil her dream of becoming a singer.

The story is a classic of the "dream that seems impossible, but with effort can be achieved". Violet is a small-town girl, innocent and naive, whose path takes her to places outside her comfort zone. A path of chaos and disorder that will lead her to discover new facets of herself. Although it is recognised that this is a cliché that has been seen many times before.

The "Coyotes" are not simply the sensual and attractive figures of the bar; their performances are incredible, dominating the space with their presence, attitude and control when performing. And although at first it may feel like a kind of sexualisation of the female figure, it can also be understood as a manifestation of female power and an emphasis on femininity.

Violet just wants to sing, but in an environment like that, sometimes you need presence, charisma and showmanship, and although at first she feels bewildered by the behaviour of the girls in the bar, it is there that she finds the strength to turn the voice she sings on the roof of the hotel where she lives into a public voice.
Her romance with the protagonist Kevin is very sweet, even though they get off to a bad start. He is constantly trying to support her in her dream, although seeing her perform in the bar causes problems between them.

But without a doubt, my favourite part of the film is the songs and the visual aesthetics. For the music, singer LeAnn Rimes lends her voice and gives a very good performance in the film's final scene. As for the Coyotes' aesthetics, I loved them from the moment I saw them. They adopt a rebellious and provocative style that leads to the Y2K aesthetic: a mix between cowboy and rocker style. They wear long heeled boots with tight jeans or leather pants, paired with crop tops, tank tops, and accessories.

Overall, I think it's a great film to watch and enjoy, especially if you like romance, pop music and the aesthetics of the 2000s.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy les vengo a hablar de una película muy de la década de los 2000. Esta película es un romance y drama con un gran enfoque musical y una estética icónica de los 2000’s que desde que vi por primera vez me gustó mucho. Esta película se llama: Coyote feo.

Esta película nos narra la historia de la joven soñadora Violet Sanford, una joven de 20 años que nació y creció en un pequeño pueblo de Nueva Jersey y cuyo mayor deseo en la vida era dejar atrás su pueblo y convertirse en cantante y compositora en Nueva York.

A pesar de las reservas y el miedo de su padre a la gran ciudad y a que Violet acabara con el corazón roto si no lograba alcanzar su sueño, decide irse y alquilar una horrible habitación en un hotel en Nueva York y dedicarse a lograr que alguna discográfica escuchara su música. Más allá de que no lo logró, Violet sufría un terror escénico que parece heredado de su madre, cuyo sueño también era ser cantante, pero no lo logró por su miedo al escenario.

Y tras ser robada en su habitación y sin ningún trabajo para subsistir, termina encontrando un bar neoyorquino muy particular que acaba cambiando su vida. Así es como Violet termina trabajando como camarera en el «Coyote Feo», un bar y club nocturno famoso por sus espectáculos. Donde las camareras bailan sobre las barras donde se sirven las bebidas, cantan y animan al público con una actitud desinhibida y rebelde.

Es aquí donde Violet descubre un nuevo mundo, un lugar de caos y rebeldía que la lleva a dejar ir sus miedos. En este lugar, Violet empieza a surgir como una artista segura de sí misma, mientras se enamora y trata de cumplir su sueño de ser cantante.

La historia es un clásico del «sueño que parece imposible, pero con esfuerzo se alcanza». Violet es una chica de pueblo, inocente e ingenua, cuyo camino la lleva a lugares fuera de su zona de confort. Un camino de caos y descontrol que la llevará a conocer facetas nuevas de sí misma. Aunque se reconoce que este es un cliché ya muy visto de la época.

Las «Coyotes» no son simplemente la figura sensual y atractiva del bar; sus actuaciones son increíbles, dominando el espacio, con su presencia, actitud y control al momento de actuar. Y aunque en un principio pueda sentirse como una especie de sexualización de la figura femenina, también puede entenderse como una manifestación del poder femenino y para resaltar la feminidad.

Violet solo quiere cantar, pero en un medio como ese a veces se necesita presencia, carisma y espectáculo y aunque al principio se siente desconcertada por el actuar de las chicas del bar, es ahí, donde encuentra la fuerza para convertir la voz que canta en el techo del hotel donde vive en una voz pública.
Su romance con el protagonista Kevin es muy tierno a pesar de que inician mal. Pues él está en cada instante tratando de apoyarla en su sueño, aunque verla actuar en el bar causa problemas entre ellos.

Pero sin duda mi parte favorita de la película son las canciones y la estética visual. Para la música, la cantante LeAnn Rimes presta su voz y hace una actuación en la escena final de la película muy buena. Y en cuanto a la estética de las Coyotes, la adoré desde el momento en que la vi. Estas adoptan un estilo rebelde y provocador que desemboca en la estética de Y2K: con una mezcla entre el estilo vaquero y el estilo roquero. Usando botas largas y de tacón, con jeans ajustados o pantalones de cuero, acompañados de crop tops, camisas sin mangas y accesorios.

En general, considero que es una gran película para ver y disfrutar, sobre todo si te gusta el romance, la música pop y la estética de los años 2000.
