Review Scream 7 😱: The classic we always come back to. [Eng/Esp]

Hello, film lovers!

I hope you’re all well. I recently watched Scream 7 and, as a huge fan of this film series, I simply had to share my thoughts on the latest instalment in the franchise so far. But first, let’s talk a bit about the plot of Scream 7.

This latest instalment brings back the original final girl, Sidney Prescott, who is now a mother and wife, as she tries to live a normal life despite always being on the lookout for any Ghostface who might pop up out of nowhere. She has a daughter named Tatum (in honour of her late friend), who, now aged 17, reminds her of her own lost adolescence amidst attempts on her life by people wearing ghost masks.

But as the film must go on, there is a new Ghostface—or perhaps several—who this time seem to be targeting Sidney’s eldest daughter, Tatum, in a twisted attempt to recreate the mother’s trauma (Scream 1) in the daughter, thus continuing the legacy begun in 1996 in Woodsboro.

Of course, the film doesn’t start like that, but begins with what for me was one of the best ten minutes of cinema, with a scene where a couple visit the home of one of the two original Ghostfaces, Stu Macher, only to obviously end up being murdered; but I really enjoyed the action sequence and the whole spectacle with the house.

Now, the film is entertaining but disappointing; for me, plot-wise, it’s one of the weakest in the series, although several ‘kills’ were brilliant. It felt more like a film made to take us back to the origins, that is, the first instalment, and although it gets it right on certain occasions—such as with Neve Campbell’s return as Sydney Prescott—it doesn’t captivate if the script is weak. And coupled with one of the weakest killer reveals in the franchise, it doesn’t help at all.

There’s nostalgia, brutal kills, Sydney Prescott and the return of Stu Macher as an AI-generated video. But with a killer with flimsy motivations, obvious rewriting and a lack of the essence of the early films, it makes it a bit meh compared to previous instalments.There was also that weird cameo from Mindy and Chad, who seemed to be there just to crack a few film jokes and that was it.

In the end, I feel the film’s idea was more of a passing of the torch to Sydney’s daughter, Tatum, as the new final girl, along the lines of ‘let’s make way for the next generation’, repeating the cycle of trauma across generations. Personally, I preferred the storyline they were developing with Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, but after they left, it’s clear that the plans and the intended direction fell apart and they just did what they could.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hace poco vi Scream 7 y, como superfán de esta saga de películas, no podía no hablar de mi apreciación de la última película, hasta ahora de la saga, pero antes hablemos un poco de la trama de Scream 7.

Esta última entrega trae de regreso a la chica final original, Sidney Prescott, quien ahora es madre y esposa, mientras trata de vivir una vida normal a pesar de estar siempre alerta ante cualquier Ghostface que quiera salir de la nada. Con una hija de nombre Tatum (en honor a su amiga fallecida), quien ahora, con 17 años, le recuerda su adolescencia perdida entre intentos de asesinato por personas con máscara de fantasma.

Pero como la película debe continuar, hay un nuevo o nuevos Ghostface que esta vez parecen apuntar a la hija mayor de Sidney, Tatum, en una forma retorcida de recrear el trauma (Scream 1) de la madre en la hija, continuando así el legado iniciado en 1996 en Woodsboro.

Por supuesto, la película no inicia así, sino que empieza con lo que para mí fue de los mejores diez minutos de película, con una escena donde una pareja visita la casa de uno de los dos Ghostface originales, Stu Macher, para evidentemente terminar siendo asesinados, pero la secuencia de acción y todo el show con la casa me gustó bastante.

Ahora, la película es entretenida pero decepcionante; para mí, en cuanto a trama, es de las más flojas de la saga, aunque varios “kills” estuvieron geniales. Se sintió más como una película hecha para regresarnos a los orígenes, es decir, la primera entrega y, aunque en ciertas ocasiones acierta como con el regreso de Neve Campbell como Sydney Prescott, no fascina si el guion es débil. Y acompañado de una de las revelaciones de asesinos más débiles de la franquicia, no ayuda en nada.

Hay nostalgia, kills brutales, Sydney Prescott y el regreso como video hecho por IA de Stu Macher. Pero con un asesino con motivaciones flojas, reescritura evidente y falta de esencia de las primeras, hace que sea meh al lado de entregas anteriores.También estuvo ese regreso todo raro de Mindy y Chad que parece que solo estuvieron ahí para hacer chistes de películas y ya.

Al final, yo siento que la idea de la película era más un pase de batuta a la hija de Sydney, Tatum, como la nueva chica final, tipo “dejémosle el camino a la siguiente generación”, repitiendo el ciclo del trauma de manera generacional. Por mi parte, me gustaba más la trama que manejaban con Melissa Barrera y Jenna Ortega, pero tras sus salidas, se nota que los planes y el camino pensado se arruinó e hicieron lo que pudieron.
