All Of Us Are Dead [Reseña de la serie] ESP/ENG
To be totally honest, I'm not a big fan of TV series, let alone Korean series, until I saw The Glory and I must confess that the plot completely captivated me. Later, my family insisted I watch Squid Game (which I did enjoy) and All Of Us Are Dead, and although the genre of this series didn't entirely convince me, I ended up giving in. I confess, it was all to keep my wife and daughters company with the popcorn, haha, but the truth is that in the end I found it to be a tremendously entertaining series.
Para ser totalmente honesto no soy una persona a la que le gusten las series, y menos las series coreanas, hasta que vi The Glory y debo confesar que la trama me envolvió por completo, más tarde mi familia me insistió en ver el Juego del Calamar (que sí disfruté) y All Of Us Are Dead, y aunque el género de esta serie no me convencía del todo, terminé cediendo, lo confieso, nada por acompañar a mi esposa y a mis hijas con las palomitas de maíz, jaja, pero la verdad es que al final me resultó una serie tremendamente entretenida.
A strange virus suddenly transformed many people into zombies, causing them to attack others. But these aren't the traditional zombies we've seen in movies for years, moving slowly. More than zombies, they resemble monsters or beasts that run at incredible speed and violently attack anything that moves. The virus gradually spreads across various regions, but the story focuses on a group of students trying to survive, confined to their school. There, they begin to organize themselves, but some important aspects emerge, such as the fact that there isn't just one type of zombie. Some develop a kind of resistance, so despite being infected and possessing special abilities, they don't completely lose their consciousness and humanity.
Un extraño virus hizo que de repente muchas personas se transformaran en zombies y comenzaran a atacar a otros, pero no son esos tradicionales que hemos visto por años en el cine, moverse lentamente, más que zombies parecen monstruos o bestias que corren a gran velocidad y atacan violentamente todo lo que se mueve. Poco a poco el virus se va extendiendo por varias regiones pero la historia se centra en un grupo de estudiantes que intenta sobrevivir encerrados en su colegio, allí se van organizando, pero saldrán a relucir algunos aspectos importantes como que no solo existe un tipo de zombie, sino que también hay algunos que desarrollan algún tipo de resistencia, así que a pesar de estar infectados y tener habilidades especiales, no pierden del todo la consciencia y la humanidad.
The most interesting thing here, beyond the zombie and virus theme, is something I've noticed in the few Korean series I've seen (including The Glory): school bullying. It seems to be commonplace in South Korea and has become such a serious problem that, in order to raise awareness, most series aim to expose how difficult life can be for the victims and how much it can affect those around them. In fact, according to the plot, the virus was created by a teacher who inoculated his son with it to make him "stronger" (so to speak), and throughout some scenes, we helplessly witness the abuse of power, classism, and impunity to which some victims are subjected. "Zombification" could then be a way of representing the negative changes that the victim is often subjected to; they become a monster because they were previously dehumanized, and the virus can represent (according to my perception) the way in which this evil affects society, how it destroys and corrodes it; some victims can become perpetrators or vice versa, and it becomes a cycle that never ends.

The plot intensifies with each episode. The character development is so strong that every time a character dies, we feel their loss deeply. The narrative pace is also very intense from the start; no time is wasted on unnecessary scenes. Everything we see on screen contributes something important, and these character developments unfold in the present, without flashbacks to help us understand them better. The acting is also excellent, but I must emphasize that what impacted me most, beyond the extraordinary performances, was actually one of the first scenes, where the professor's son is abused. It's shocking to see the lack of empathy and the level of cruelty of those young men, knowing full well that their crimes would go unpunished.
La trama se vuelve intensa con cada episodio, hay un desarrollo de personajes tan bueno que cada vez que aparece la muerte de alguno de ellos la sentimos con mucho dolor, y el ritmo narrativo es también muy intenso desde el inicio, no pierden el tiempo en escenas innecesarias, sino que todo lo que vemos en pantalla aporta algo importante, y estos desarrollos de personaje surgen en tiempo presente, sin recuerdos que nos ayuden a conocerlos un poco más. Las actuaciones también son muy buenas pero insisto en que lo que más me impactó, más allá de las conversiones extraordinarias, fue de hecho una de las primeras escenas, donde el hijo del profesor sufre abuso, es impresionante ver la falta de empatía y el nivel de crueldad de esos jóvenes, a sabiendas de que sus crímenes quedarían impunes.
The series has also been interpreted as an allegory for the life of the average South Korean teenager, rigorously prepared for working life. They must study for twelve years to be ready for the university entrance exam, the biggest challenge of their life, where their future will be defined. The eyes and hopes of their family, school, and society at large are fixed upon them, and they gradually become victims of a classist and stereotypical system that sets parameters without considering the feelings or critical thinking of each individual. If one of them chooses a trade instead of going to university, they are quickly frowned upon by society, called mediocre, and considered a failure. In this way, teenagers become slaves to the system, puppets of society, losing their humanity. But in the context of the series, for the first time in their lives, they will have to face reality and make important decisions upon which their survival depends.
La serie también ha sido tomada como una analogía de la vida del adolescente surcoreano promedio, estrictamente preparado para la vida laboral, debe estudiar durante doce años para estar listos para la prueba universitaria, el desafío más grande de su vida, allí se definirá su futuro, los ojos y esperanzas de su familia, la escuela y la sociedad en general están puestos sobre él o ella, y poco a poco termina siendo víctima de un sistema clasista y estereotipado, que establece parámetros sin tomar en cuenta los sentimientos o el pensamiento crítico de cada individuo. Si uno de ellos prefiere optar por un oficio en lugar de ir a la universidad, rápidamente es mal visto por la sociedad, lo llaman mediocre y lo consideran un fracasado, así que de esta manera los adolescentes se vuelven esclavos del sistema, marionetas de la sociedad, pierden su humanidad, pero en el contexto de la serie, por primera vez en sus vidas tendrán que enfrentarse a la realidad, tomar decisiones importantes de las cuales dependerá su supervivencia.
The only downside is that it has an open ending that leaves room for a possible second season, but there hasn't been any news about it for a very long time, so the series was left unfinished.
Lo único malo es que tiene un final abierto que da pie a una posible temporada más, pero hace muchísimo que no ha habido ninguna noticia al respecto, así que la serie quedó inconclusa.
