Knock Knock At The Cabin [Movie Review] ESP/ENG

Today I watched a movie called *Knock at the Cabin*, which I found extremely unsettling—but don't get me wrong, I don't mean that in a bad way at all; quite the opposite. It is by Indian director M. Night Shyamalan, who, as everyone knows, tends to use surprising plot twists in his films, especially at the end. This particular movie centers on a highly unconventional family—a gay couple with an adopted daughter—who are nonetheless happy and free from discrimination. They are staying in the middle of nowhere to unplug from the world and enjoy the quiet, but this peace is short-lived; suddenly, they are besieged by a group of people claiming the end of the world is imminent—a sort of Armageddon—and that one of the family members must become an expiator of sins and sacrifice everyone, even their loved ones. This difficult choice creates a profound dilemma.

Hoy estuve viendo una película llamada Knock Knock At The Cabin, la cual me pareció sumamente desconcertante, pero no me malinterpreten, no lo digo para nada en un mal sentido sino todo lo contrario ya que es del director indio M. Night Shyamalan, que como todos saben, siempre tiende a usar giros de trama sorprendentes para las tramas de sus películas, en especial al final. Esta en particular nos habla de una familia muy poco convencional, dos hombres que son pareja y tienen una hija adoptada, sin embargo son felices y no enfrentan ningún tipo de discriminación, están allí en medio de la nada para desconectarse del mundo y disfrutar de la quietud de aquel lugar, sin embargo esta paz es pasajera porque de pronto todos son asediados por un grupo de personas que aseguran que viene el el fin del mundo, una especie de Armagedón donde uno de ellos debe convertirse en expiador de pecados y sacrificarlos a todos, incluso a los que ama. Esta decisión difícil plantea un dilema en el aire

The film maintains a strong pace right from the start, as there is no long wait for the action to kick in—it begins almost immediately. The actors skillfully handle the unsettling atmosphere, leaving you questioning the validity of their arguments. Furthermore, it is fascinating to see how effectively the film operates within a limited setting—the cabin and the surrounding woods—with a plot compelling enough to hold your attention without the need for elaborate elements.

La película mantiene un muy buen ritmo desde el inicio porque no hay que esperar demasiado para que comience la acción, esta se manifiesta casi desde el inicio, los actores saben muy bien como manejar aquella aura desconcertante que hay en el ambiente y que te hace preguntarte si tienen o no razón en sus argumentos, por otra parte resulta muy interesante ver como la película se maneja bastante bien dentro de un mismo escenario (la cabaña) y el bosque, la trama es lo suficientemente atrapante para mantener tu atención sin necesidad de mayores elementos.

One of the film's greatest draws—at least from my perspective—is that it prompts us to reflect and reconsider our own existence: is everything truly the way we were told or taught? It urges us to pay closer attention to the world around us. The movie is so rich in emotion that, at times, the erratic behavior of certain characters is terrifying, while at others, it fills you with tenderness and empathy; it truly offers a wide range of nuances.

Uno de los mayores atractivos del film (hablando desde mi punto de vista) es que nos hace reflexionar, nos hace replantearnos nuestra propia existencia ¿es todo como nos dijeron o enseñaron? Debemos prestar más atención a nuestro alrededor. Esta tan llena de emociones que en algunas ocasiones te aterrorizas con las actitudes erráticas de ciertos personajes y en otras te llenas de ternura y empatía, así que tiene diversos matíces.

As far as I know, it is based on a book—though, to be honest, I haven't read it, so I don't know what is canon and what isn't. I do know that the director was involved in the film beyond just directing, as he also wrote the screenplay; I consider this an added value that makes the work even more exquisite.

Hasta donde sé está basada en un libro, aunque para serles honestos yo no lo he leído así que ignoro que tanto es canon y que tanto no lo es, solo sé que el director se involucró en la cinta ms allá de la dirección pues también es guionista, lo cuál considero que le da un valor agregado al trabajo, volviéndolo más exquisito.
