La Casa de Papel (Review) ESP/ENG
For some time now I've been preparing to watch a series that at the time caused a huge stir around the world, I'm referring of course to the Spanish series La Casa de Papel, and the truth is that now I can fully understand why it was so well received around the world and the reason why there was so much talk about it, and that is because it is very addictive, in fact I recently started watching it (since fortunately I was able to acquire Netflix) and I'm already halfway through the third season.
Desde hace algún tiempo me dispuse a ver una serie que en su momento hizo un gran revuelo en todo el mundo, me refiero desde luego a serie española La Casa de Papel, y la verdad es que ahora puedo entender perfectamente porqué tuvo tanta aceptación en el mundo y la razón por la que se hablaba tanto de ella, y es que es muy adictiva, de hecho empecé hace poco a verla (ya que afortunadamente pude adquirir Netflix) y ya voy por la mitad de la tercera temporada.
The series follows the story of a group of thieves led by Sergio Marquina, the brilliant mind, the man who orchestrates even the smallest details, whom everyone calls "The Professor." The gang sets out to carry out two robberies, but this isn't just any gang or any robbery, but rather groups of professionals in their field who are set out to take resources from the Mint and Stamp Factory and the Bank of Spain respectively. The professor directs the operations from the outside, but both inside and outside there is a lot of tension since the pace of the plot is very dynamic. The series moves between personal dramas and criticisms of the system that makes us question who the good guys and the bad guys really are.
La serie sigue la historia de un grupo de ladrones dirigidos por Sergio Marquina , la mente brillante, el hombre que orquesta hasta el más mínimo, a quien todos llaman "El Profesor" La banda se dispone a realizar dos atracos, pero no se trata de cualquier banda ni cualquier atraco, sino de grupos de profesionales en su área que se disponen a tomar recursos de la Fabrica de Moneda y Timbre y el Banco de España respectivamente. El profesor dirige las operaciones desde el exterior, pero tanto dentro como afuera hay muchísima tensión ya que el ritmo de la trama es muy dinámico. La serie se mueve entre dramas personales y criticas al sistema que nos hace cuestionarnos acerca de quienes son en realidad los buenos y quienes los malos.
As I said at the beginning of this post, this series has a very dynamic pace, so it's impossible to get bored or feel like you're wasting time; you're always on your toes, wanting to know what's happening. The flashbacks are very well-placed and serve to give context to the story, so you don't get confused. On the other hand, I feel (in my personal opinion) that the voice of Tokyo (one of the most important characters), narrating some of the scenes in the first person, gives a special touch to the plot, making it more immersive and even realistic.
Tal como dije al inicio de este post, esta serie tiene un ritmo muy dinámico, así que es imposible aburrirse o sentir que estás perdiendo el tiempo, siempre estás alerta, queriendo saber qué ocurre. Los Flashbacks están muy bien ubicados y sirven para darle contexto a la historia, así que no te confundes, por otra parte, siento (en mi opinión personal) que la voz de Tokio (un de los personajes más importantes) narrando en primera persona algunas de las escenas le da un toque especial a la trama, la hace más inmersiva e incluso realista.
Despite some criticism, I do not believe that the series seeks to idealize or romanticize crime in any way, but rather to highlight corruption. The characters intended to expose the way in which the system usually acts in certain situations: preferences for some hostages because they have (in their opinion) greater political importance, skipping protocol or evading responsibility for errors and worst of all, the suppression of human rights. But beyond all this, I find the capacity for organization, planning and execution that the series shows us on the part of the robbers admirable. They cover even the smallest detail because they know how to work as a team. But this does not mean that problems do not arise. Of course they do, and very serious ones. The difference between them and the police is that the robbers look for solutions, not more problems. And although yes, all this sounds like justifying the unjustifiable, the whole robbery issue for me is a metaphor, somewhat grotesque, yes, of what it is to achieve a goal through patience, perseverance and organization.
A pesar de algunas críticas yo no creo que la serie busque idealizar o romantizar de alguna manera el crimen, sino evidenciar la corrupción, los personajes pretendían exponer la manera en la que el sistema suele actuar ante ciertas situaciones: preferencias ante algunos rehenes por tener (ante su juicio) una mayor importancia política, saltarse el protocolo o evasión de responsabilidades ante errores y lo peor de todo supresión de derechos humanos, pero más allá de todo esto me parece admirable la capacidad de organización, planificación y ejecución que nos muestra la serie por parte de los atracadores, estos cubren hasta el más mínimo detalle porque saben trabajar en equipo, pero esto no significa que no surjan problemas, claro que los tienen y muy fuertes, pero la diferencia entre ellos y al policía, es que los atracadores buscan soluciones no más problemas, y aunque sí, todo esto suene a justificar lo injustificable, todo el asunto del robo para mi es una metáfora, un tanto grotesca, sí, de lo que es alcanzar un objetivo mediante la paciencia, constancia y organización.
What helps us empathize with the robbers and the resistance in general is perhaps the fact that we are aware that there is a lot of inequality in the world and that the system in general and the financial institutions act according to their own interests. In this sense, the series shows us the characters of the resistance as real human beings, with problems, fears, vulnerabilities and aspirations, which allows the audience to feel emotionally connected to them.
Lo que ayuda a empatizar con los atracadores y con la resistencia en general tal vez es el hecho de que estamos conscientes de que en el mundo hay mucha desigualdad y que el sistema en general y las instituciones financieras actúan según sus propios intereses, en este sentido la serie nos muestra a la los personajes de la resistencia como seres humanos reales, con problemas, miedos, vulnerabilidades y aspiraciones, lo que permite que el publico pueda sentirse conectado emocionalmente con ellos.
In short, while I've admittedly detected some script flaws at times, I can't deny the great skill at generating audience tension. The unexpected twists are thrilling, and I sincerely appreciate the satisfying endings, so I fully recommend this series. Thank you very much for your attention. See you another time, God willing.
En resumen, a pesar de que es cierto que a veces he detectado algunas conveniencias de guion, no puedo negar existe una gran habilidad para generar tensión en la audiencia, los giros inesperados son emocionantes y sinceramente agradezco los finales que resultan satisfactorios para el público, así que recomiendo totalmente esta serie. Siempre senti curiosidad de saber de que se trataba esta serie, pero nunca me anime a verla, con tu reseña me ayudaste un poco a conocer más de que va todo, y este tipo de tramas me gusta porque muestras una pequeña parte de lo que es la realidad en este mundo actual y como se maneja todo Gracias
