Run [Movie Review] ESP/NG
De vez en cuando me gusta relajarme y disfrutar de una buena película o serie, en especial de aquellas que me dejan sorprendido, algunas son bastante predecibles pero aún así entretenidas. Hoy me gustaría hablar de Corre, una película con una gran carga emocional donde la frustración está a la orden del día pero nos puede ayudar a tener un contexto más amplio de lo que implica estar a merced de alguien, y lo más escalofriante es que podría estar sucediendo ahora mismo en cualquier parte del mundo.
From time to time, I like to relax and enjoy a good movie or series, especially those that surprise me. Some are quite predictable but still entertaining. Today I would like to talk about Run, a film with a great emotional charge where frustration is the order of the day, but it can help us to gain a broader context of what it means to be at someone's mercy, and the most chilling thing is that it could be happening right now anywhere in the world.
Esta película es un Thriller psicológico, así que por esto juega tanto con las emociones de la audiencia, en ella conocemos la toxica relación entre una madre y su hija aparentemente enferma, la trama podría confundir un poco con la de "The Act" donde Gypsie Blanchard es prisionera de su madre Dee Dee, por eso presiento que está basada en esa historia, o al menos tomaron la premisa del Sindrome Munchausen por poder como base para construir y consolidar la trama. Chloe en este caso está convencida de su enfermedad (parálisis), la cuál la mantiene en silla de ruedas, su madre Diane cuida de ella y controla sus medicamentos, sin embargo Chloe, que sueña con ir a la universidad, pues es una muchacha brillante, en algún punto comienza a sospechar de su madre al descubrir que algunos de sus síntomas están sujetos a la medicación que ella le proporciona, así que desde ese momento comienza una batalla para huir de su madre en aras de preservar su vida, pero en ese proceso la chica hace un descubrimiento perturbador.
This film is a psychological thriller, which is why it plays so much with the audience's emotions. In it, we learn about the toxic relationship between a mother and her apparently ill daughter. The plot could be a little confusing with that of “The Act,” where Gypsie Blanchard is a prisoner of her mother Dee Dee, which is why I feel that it is based on that story, or at least that they took the premise of Munchausen syndrome by proxy as a basis for building and consolidating the plot. In this case, Chloe is convinced of her illness (paralysis), which keeps her in a wheelchair. Her mother Diane takes care of her and controls her medication. However, Chloe, who dreams of going to college because she is a brilliant girl, at some point begins to suspect her mother when she discovers that some of her symptoms are subject to the medication she provides her. So, from that moment on, she begins a battle to escape from her mother in order to preserve her life, but in the process, the girl makes a disturbing discovery.
Tiene algunos giros argumentales que te sorprenden pero desde el inicio presientes que hay algo perturbador en la relación madre e hija, pues no se siente un cariño orgánico, sino más bien una sensación de control todo el tiempo, pero no se siente como maldad, sino más bien como un desequilibrio emocional, y eso es precisamente lo que es el famoso Síndrome de Munchausen por poder, donde la persona afectada necesita del reconocimiento y afecto de otros, necesita sentirse indispensable, y para conseguirlo provoca sintomas y enfermedades en su ser querido, con lo cuál queda ante los demás como una persona abnegada, amorosa y protectora, saber que alguien los necesita los hace sentir importantes, no lo hacen por maldad pero obviamente afecta mucho a las víctimas.
It has some plot twists that surprise you, but from the beginning you sense that there is something disturbing about the mother-daughter relationship, as there is no organic affection, but rather a feeling of control all the time. However, it does not feel like malice, but rather like an emotional imbalance, and that is precisely what the famous Munchausen syndrome by proxy is, where the affected person needs the recognition and affection of others, needs to feel indispensable, and to achieve this, they cause symptoms and illnesses in their loved one, which makes them appear to others as a self-sacrificing, loving, and protective person. Knowing that someone needs them makes them feel important. They don't do it out of malice, but it obviously affects the victims greatly.
Las actuaciones son muy convincentes y esto aunado al formato en el que está grabada la película generan una experiencia inmersiva en la que el miedo y en especial la frustración cobran protagonismo, somos testigos omnipresentes de todo lo que acontece, en especial de como la victima lucha por su vida primero con astucia y luego con desesperación. y considero que esto es un punto muy importante, digno de resaltar porque sirve para visualizar el maltrato que en muchas ocasiones sufren las personas con discapacidad, esas personas que no pueden valerse por si mismos y que lamentablemente dependen de su agresor o agresora, todo bajo la venia de un sistema que no fiscaliza o supervisa esas atenciones, así que la premisa de esta película es también es una critica social importante
The performances are very convincing, and this, combined with the format in which the film is recorded, creates an immersive experience in which fear and, especially, frustration take center stage. We are omnipresent witnesses to everything that happens, especially how the victim fights for her life, first with cunning and then with desperation. I consider this to be a very important point, worthy of highlighting because it serves to visualize the abuse that people with disabilities often suffer, those people who cannot fend for themselves and who unfortunately depend on their abuser, all under the auspices of a system that does not monitor or supervise such care. Therefore, the premise of this film is also an important social critique.
El final podría interpretarse de dos maneras, para unos podría ser justo, como dicen popularmente "tomar un poco de la propia medicina" pero yo lo veo más bien oscuro, donde la víctima no ha cerrado completamente el círculo, lo cuál podría representar a donde puede conducir la falta de acompañamiento psicológico. Es un film para reflexionar acerca de como tratar a las víctimas y como lidiar con los trastornos, lo mucho que pueden afectar a la sociedad e incluso como aprender a reconocer síntomas, así que de corazón les recomiendo esta película.
The ending could be interpreted in two ways. For some, it could be seen as fair, as the popular saying goes, “a taste of their own medicine,” but I see it as rather dark, where the victim has not completely closed the circle, which could represent where a lack of psychological support can lead. It is a film that makes you reflect on how to treat victims and how to deal with disorders, how much they can affect society, and even how to learn to recognize symptoms, so I wholeheartedly recommend this film.

Esta película literalmente me mantuvo en vilo durante todo el tiempo que duró, es verdad, también me recordó el caso de Gypsy, creo que sí está inspirada en eso.
