The Reflection of the Cranes, Venezuelan Cinema ( ENG/ESP)

Lucia is a 60-year-old woman in charge of a tourist inn in the state of Merida, in the Venezuelan Andes, a place where many Venezuelan tourists come to visit. Amelia, a young city girl, has stayed at her inn for a few days with the purpose of visiting the Merida waterfalls. Her curiosity to know the place leads her to approach Lucía and establish an intimate relationship with whom she finally has a brief romance. Amelia remembers the night through a photograph and a paper bird that the young woman has left on the counter.
This is the theme of the film "El reflejo de las grullas" by young Venezuelan Juan Ballesteros, visual artist and film student at the Universidad de los Andes.
The story begins with an album of photographs and forgotten objects that bear witness to the passage of visitors. Lucia has grouped all the memories in a book as a way of remembering those who have been passing through: tourists with illusions, sadness, anguish; small stories that also give meaning to her own.
The young director uses as a metaphor the image of cranes, an opportunistic bird that feeds on seasonal fruits, they are characterized by being solitary and migrate over long distances; they are present in almost all continents, although they are not very common in South American countries, with which he invites us to reflect on the transience of human beings in the lives of others:
"I wanted an encounter between two people who were in different worlds and how they can mix and share and then say goodbye" -expresses the young man-.
In this way the film weaves a deep and brief story between two women whose lives are totally opposite, but the emotional circumstances led them to meet, without ties, from the respect without that means the continuity of the relationship.

The story is brief, but not for that reason without value. In this sense, the director plays with the principle of non-permanence or transience to which we can appeal from Buddhism, with which he proposes to give a different meaning to brevity. Consequently, brevity has as much weight as that which endures.
Inviting us to question beliefs about love, relationships and loneliness, as it allows us to question these traditional views in order to reconcile with ourselves and open the way to other forms of self-love and love for others.
This production has toured the world in different festivals in Europe, Latin America and the U.S.A. and received the following awards:

Lucia es una mujer de unos 60 años encargada de una posada turística del estado Mérida, de los Andes venezolanos, lugar en el que concurren muchos turistas del país. Amelia, una joven citadina se ha hospedado en su hostal por unos pocos días con el propósito de conocer las cascadas merideñas. Su curiosidad por conocer el lugar le lleva acercarse a Lucía y establecer una relación íntima con quien finalmente tiene un breve romance. Amelia, recuerda la noche a través de una fotografía y un pájaro de papel que ha dejado la joven sobre el mostrador.
De este tema trata la película “El reflejo de las grullas” del joven venezolano Juan Ballesteros, artista visual y estudiante de cine de la Universidad de los Andes.
La historia comienza a partir de un álbum de fotografías y objetos olvidados que atestiguan el paso de los visitantes . Lucia ha agrupado todos los recuerdos en un libro como una forma de rememorar a quienes han estado de paso: turistas con ilusiones, tristezas, angustias; pequeñas historias que también le dan sentido a la suya.
El joven director utiliza como metáfora la imagen de las grullas, un ave oportunista que se alimenta de los frutos de estación, se caracterizan por ser solitarias y migran a través de largas distancias; tienen presencia en casi todos los continentes, aunque no son muy comunes en los países suramericanos, con la que nos invita a reflexionar sobre la transitoriedad de los seres humanos en la vida de otros:“quería un encuentro entre dos personas que estuvieran en mundos distintos y cómo pueden mezclarse y compartir para luego despedirse” -expresa el joven-.De esta manera la película teje una historia profunda y breve entre dos mujeres cuyas vidas son totalmente opuestas, pero las circunstancias emocionales les llevaron a encontrarse, sin ataduras, desde el respeto sin que eso signifique la continuidad de la relación.La historia es breve, pero no por eso sin valor. En este sentido, el director juega con el principio de no permanencia o transitoriedad al que podemos apelar desde el budismo, con el que se propone darle un sentido distinto a lo breve. Por consiguiente, la brevedad tiene tanto peso como lo que perdura.
