I recently saw the film Post Mortem, a 2010 production directed by Pablo Larraín, a drama that tells the story of the military coup against Chilean President Salvador Allende. The plot of the film is narrated from the morgue of a hospital, a forensic doctor together with his instrumentalist nurse and his registrar take the death certificates of each deceased person in the city. When the military coup occurs, the hospital collapses and is militarized by the carabineros. The doctor and his team are forced to work to register and count the bodies.
One of the dead being autopsied is the president of the republic Salvador Allende. In front of a group of soldiers the medical team must examine the body. The moment of tension makes the registrar feel nervous and he cannot continue; in the autopsy the doctor reveals that a bullet entered through his throat and perforated his skull. The physician states that the cause of death was a close range bullet that could not have been detonated by the victim..
On September 11, 1973, President Salvador Allende was overthrown by a military corps that bombed the Moneda Palace. Many workers who supported the government formed small pockets of resistance in the factories. Allende refused to resign and decided to resist to the last consequences.
This film raises an open wound for four decades in Chilean history: did Allende commit suicide or was he killed? For years this question was present in the memory of Chileans, however in 2011 a judge ruled, after a long process of a scientific body, that the president had taken his own life.
At the same time, the story weaves small micro-stories through its protagonists. Mario the registrar is a character of docile, silent and apparently affable character, in the midst of the circumstances he falls in love with his neighbor with whom he has an affair. The young woman is a collaborator of the militants close to President Allende. Her house is bombed in reprisals, the day of the events. She survives thanks to the help of Mario, who manages to hide her in a small warehouse in the courtyard of his house, where he goes every day to assist her with food. But one morning he discovers her sleeping with another man. Mario is aware of the young woman's infidelity, with whom he exchanges food for sex.
In this way the director puts us in play with the great story of the film: the naturalization of violence. In extreme circumstances, violence is also a way to survive. In the end, Mario decides to seal the warehouse with debris from his neighbor's house. Although she tries to leave, Mario adds debris one by one until she is unable to escape from the place. The film ends with this scene, open, in the best style of a Cortazar story, leaving the viewer the infinite possibilities of the ending.

Recientemente vi la película Post Mortem, una producción del año 2010 dirigida por Pablo Larraín un drama que narra la historia del golpe militar contra el presidente chileno Salvador Allende. El argumento de la película está narrado desde la morgue de un hospital, un médico forense junto a su enfermera instrumentista y su registrador levantan las actas de defunción de cada fallecido de la ciudad. Cuando ocurre el golpe militar el hospital colapsa y es militarizado por los carabineros. El doctor y su equipo son obligados a trabajar para hacer el registro y conteo de los cuerpos.
Uno de los muertos al que le practican la autopsia es el presidente de la república Salvador Allende. Delante de un grupo de militares el equipo médico debe revisar el cuerpo. El momento de tension hace que el registrador se sienta nervioso y no pueda continuar; en la autopsia el médico revela que una bala entró por su garganta y perforó el cráneo. El médico declara que el motivo de la muerte fue por una bala a corta distancia que no pudo ser detonada por la víctima.
El 11 de septiembre de 1973, el presidente Salvador Allende es derrocado por un cuerpo de militares que bombardearon el Palacio de la Moneda. Muchos trabajadores afectos al gobierno conformaron pequeños focos de resistencias en las fábricas. Allende se negó a renunciar y decidió resistir hasta las últimas consecuencias.
Esta película plantea una herida abierta durante cuatro décadas en la historia de Chile ¿Allende se suicidó o lo mataron?. Durante años esta interrogante estuvo presente en la memoria de los chilenos, sin embargo en el año 2011 un juez dictaminó, luego de un proceso largo de un cuerpo científico, que el presidente se había quitado la vida.
La historia, al mismo tiempo, va tejiendo pequeñas microhistorias a través de sus protagonistas. Mario el registrador es un personaje de carácter dócil, silencioso y aparentemente afable, en medio de las circunstancias se enamora de su vecina con quien tiene un romance. La joven es una colaboradora de los militantes afectos al presidente Allende. Su casa es bombardeada en represalias, el día de los hechos. Sobrevive gracias a la ayuda de Mario que logra ocultarla en un pequeño depósito del patio de su casa, al que cada día acude para asistirla con alimentos. Pero una mañana la descubre durmiendo con otro. Mario consciente la infidelidad de la joven, con la cual cambia alimento por sexo.
De esta manera el director nos pone en juego con el gran relato de la película: la naturalización de la violencia. Ante circunstancias extremas la violencia es también una forma de sobrevivir. Al final, Mario decide sellar el deposito con escombros de la casa de su vecina. Aunque esta intenta salir, Mario va agregando escombros uno a uno hasta dejarla sin posibilidad del escapar del lugar. La película termina con esta escena, abierta, al mejor estilo de un cuento de Cortazar, dejando al espectador las infinitas posibilidades del final.
