Novocaine - All for a pinch of love... And a reason to feel alive | Movies Review [EN/ES]

I honestly didn't expect a movie about a man who feels no pain due to a genetic condition to surprise me. At first, it seemed absurd, but I gave it a chance, thinking it might be a comedy.

It seems I was right again. Novocaine is a very funny movie, although a little exaggerated, even bizarre at times. These scenes don't make the movie lose its meaning, but rather enhance it, because Nate, a bank employee, having no sensitivity, must find a way to fight his attackers, or even simulate the feeling of pain he doesn't know, which is paradoxically funny.

Sinceramente no esperaba que una película en la que un hombre que no siente dolor por una condición genética lograra sorprenderme. De principio me parecía una disparatada, sin embargo le di una oportunidad al pensar que podría tratarse de una película de humor.

Parece que le he atinado nuevamente. Novocaine es una película muy divertida, aunque un poco exagerada, hasta bizarra podría decirse en ciertos momentos. Estas escenas no hacen que la película pierda sentido, sino que la potencian, porque Nate, un empleado de banco, al no tener sensibilidad deberá encontrar la forma de luchar con sus agresores, o hasta simular el sentimiento de dolor que desconoce, lo que resulta paradójicamente gracioso.

For some reason, Nate is struck by love at first sight. His partner is there seducing him, until he falls under her spell. It all starts when a robbery takes place and he has to take charge of the situation, with no choice but to make a decision, since the police, as always, arrive late on the scene.

His decision will also make him a suspect as part of the criminal group, so he will have to prove that he is a victim of the robbery and that his intentions are nothing more than to go after a ransom for someone he has feelings for.

These criminals are numerous and highly aggressive, so throughout the plot a struggle for survival ensues, with the aim of getting rid of the quiet guy we knew from the beginning. Nate's personality is magnificent, being overly kind, understanding, and empathetic, although very shy at times, having to be supported by his video game friend so that he can go out into the world to enjoy his life and make it meaningful.

Por alguna razón un flechazo de amor a primera vista encandila a Nate. Su compañera está ahí seduciéndolo, hasta que va cayendo en su encanto. Todo comienza cuando sucede un robo y él se debe hacer cargo de la situación al no quedarle más remedio que tomar una decisión, ya que la policía, como siempre, acude tarde al escenario y a los hechos.

También su decisión hará que sea un sospechoso como parte del grupo delictivo, por lo que tendrá que demostrar que él es una víctima del atraco y que sus intenciones son nada más que ir a por un rescate sobre quien sí siente algo.

Estos delincuentes son numerosos y altamente agresivos, por lo que durante toda la trama se desata una lucha por la supervivencia, queriendo sacar de en medio al tipo tranquilo que conocíamos desde un principio. La personalidad de Nate es magnífica, siendo demasiado amable, comprensible y empático, aunque muy tímido en ocasiones, teniendo que ser apoyado por su amigo de videojuegos para que logre salir al mundo a disfrutar de su vida y que ésta cobre sentido.

The action scenes are diverse, taking place in different locations. It's more like an escape and a chase adventure throughout the city, where the main objective is to investigate, find, and rescue his beloved. There are some graphic scenes, but when you see them, you understand that it's just a parody or something similar; that is, it doesn't go to the extreme of being grotesque to watch. I think the funniest thing to see is that, because he feels nothing, he often doesn't realize he's been hurt, or that he doesn't care if his body is damaged.

It does have sentimental parts, which is also a strong point for the film. They may be spontaneous, but they are a spice that makes it more enjoyable. The relationship with Jerez, which at first seems very real, declines a little as the plot progresses, but regains strength when a betrayal reveals who was on his side. On the contrary, his friend Roscoe is undoubtedly the most loyal character in the film, although it could be said that he is a bit of a liar in terms of the appearances he presented online.

In terms of sound, it is very good, as is the dialogue, making it entertaining and undoubtedly a good choice to watch today.

Las escenas de acción son diversas, en distintas locaciones. Es más como una huida y una aventura de persecución a lo largo de la ciudad, donde el objetivo principal es investigar, encontrar y rescatar a su amada. Sí hay escenas algo crudas, pero cuando uno las ve entiende que es solo una parodia o similar; es decir, no se va al extremo de ser algo grotesco de ver. Creo que lo más gracioso de ver es que al no sentir nada, muchas veces no se da cuenta que fue herido, o que le da igual que su cuerpo resulte dañado.

Sí tiene partes sentimentales, lo que también es un buen fuerte para la película. Tal vez sean espontáneas, pero es un condimento que hace que se disfrute más. La relación con Jerez, que al principio parece ser muy real,con el avance de la trama decae un poco pero vuelve a recuperar fuerza cuando una traición deja al descubierto quién tenía al lado. Por el contrario, su amigo Roscoe, es sin dudas el más fiel de la película, aunque podría decirse que un poco mentiroso en cuanto las apariencias con las que se presentaba en línea.

En cuanto al aspecto sonoro, está muy bien al igual que los diálogos, haciendo que sea entretenida y sin dudas una buena opción para ver el día de hoy.

It's not a film that will change your life, but you'll enjoy it a lot over dinner as it's not very long, yet very explosive, with enough action in a slightly crazy but very funny plot. Give it a chance, it will surprise you.

No es una película que te cambiará la vida, pero sí la disfrutarás mucho durante la cena al no ser muy larga, pero sí muy explosiva, con dosis de acción suficientes en una trama un poco disparatada pero muy graciosa. Dale una oportunidad, te va a sorprender.
