Doors are Opening - More and More Creative Gigs Coming my Way

Less than two weeks ago, my twin sister asked me whether I would be interested in giving a filmmaking workshop to the class that my 7 year old niece and 9 year old nephew are in.

I then recorded a podcast on my mixed feelings around this connected to past experiences, that you can listen to here:

Will I become a film teacher once again? Can I do this?

Around the same time, I had started considering hosting movie nights and introducing those movies with a little talk, in a nearby creative space that recently opened its doors.

More on that in this episode of my podcast:

Will I start hosting movie nights in my town?

I talked to the guy who runs the place and he seems genuinely interested. Before I met up with him for a tea, I had no idea that he used to study film(making) too, prior to me, in the 90s. Documentary filmmaking, to be more precise.

He and I will meet up for some more talking, tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Then, a week ago, a mother of two young daughters, asked me whether I maybe wanted to read a 'fable' of mine at a so called 'fun school' project. I don't know much at all about that project, aside from it taking place in a little nearby city, every Wednesday.

Prior to that, I had helped with Portuguese-Dutch and Dutch-Portuguese interpretation, between two other Dutch Parents and her and a teacher from Brasil.

She and I will talk more over a coffee or tea, one day soon.

And then, today, a good friend told me, while we had a drink and a bite on a table at my town's central square, that a man who runs a bio shop/ café in the same little city where the 'fun school' is at, is thinking of expanding his business and possibly organizing movie nights above his shop/ café. Movie nights with arthouse type films, not mainstream stuff.

After hearing this, my friend told that man that he knew the perfect person to talk these movies together: Me.

And you know what, he is right.

This is what I studied, in Uni, back in the days ( 2000-2007 ).

It's what I used to do, as work, often voluntarily and most of the times at home.

I must say that it feels good that, after such a long time, after leaving my mother-/fatherland, The Netherlands, partially out of disappointment over not fitting in and being burnt out and depressed by so many disappointing, stressful, uncreative jobs that had very little to do with my passion or background, creative doors finally seem to be opening here.

It took me 5 years in Portugal, to reach that point, and it seems that my recent move out of the countryside and into the smallest of cities was exactly what I needed for this to happen.

Now I'm not completely happy here, I feel pretty boxed in in my paper wall apartment in the noisy kerbstone, barking dog, main street, but if this is the sacrifice that I needed to make in order to manifest all ( or some ) of the above, I guess it's all worth it ;<)

TO BE CONVINUED...

P.S.If you want to stay up to date with my creative endeavors, the positives as well as the struggles, make sure to listen to my podcast 'The Life of Hypersensitivosaurus'.

I uploaded yet another episode, today, #12, including a cute little (im)perfect ukulele intro and outro.

You might like it ;<)

Thank you for your time! :<)

Much love and a friendly dino hug ( with short clumsy raptor arms and no claws ),

the pic above this post was taken on a hike, near my town, this afternoon, before I met up with the good friend whom I mention in my write up

Blummin eck, truly the small city life is working for you. Careful there doesn't end up being too much!

Cheers buddy. Luckily I have become a master at saying "NO", too, in the last couple of years ;<)

I'm sorry you aren't completely happy in the new place but as you say the opportunity for creative fulfilment might be the reason you are there. And maybe with more time you'll get used to the inconveniences. X

Well said. I see this as a temporary 'sacrifice' of peace and quiet that will lead to a lot of good stuff.

It's worth it already :^)
