Hi, Moviemania...
What movie do you watch or streamed recently?
I wish it would be a nice movie that would make your day fulfill with happiness too.

Recently, I stream an Indonesian colossal film adapted from an old comic by Bastian Tirto, Wiro Sableng: Pendekar Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212 ( The Crazy Wiro: The Swordsman of Fire Dragon Ax 212). This movie now is available on Netflix.

In the past, when I was little, this comic was brought to the television, and I was part of the thousands of viewers who loved this story, namely Wiro Sableng, and Swordsman 212 (series version).

Fun fact, the film version stars Vino G Bastian who is the son of the comic writer, Bastian Tirto.

Wiro Sableng - Pendekar Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212

The story begins with a herd of robbers led by Mahesa looting a village. The small village is where Mahesa's enemies named Ranaweleng and Suci, Wiro's parents, live. There was a battle between Ranaweleng and Mahesa which resulted in the death of Wiro's parents. Wiro himself was about to be burned by Mahesa and other robbers but was saved by a powerful grandmother named Sinto Gendeng.

Sinto then appointed Wiro as his student. Wiro received silat martial arts lessons throughout his life. He was then given the nickname Wiro Sableng (Wiro The Crazy) and was given a powerful weapon called Fire Dragon Ax 212. The philosophy of '212' comes from the fact that God created all elements in pairs (2), and stems from one thing, namely God. Be '212' so that Wiro always holds on to the One Godhead.

After she felt Wiro had enough knowledge, Sinto gave orders to Wiro to look for Mahesa, who was predicted to cause a lot of evil on earth. So Wiro wanders in search of Mahesa.

On the way, he meets Anggini, a disciple of Dewa Drunk, and Bujang Gila Tapak Sakti, who then completes him in searching for Mahesa. On the same trip, Wiro met Mahesa's gang who wanted to kidnap the Crown Prince of the kingdom who was watching the state of the village with his aunt, Rara Murni, Wiro love interest.

A Movie Full of Childhood Memories

Wiro Sableng the series, long time ago

I remember when this version of the series became everyone's favorite in my country. Including me and my school friends. When we get together, we always talked about this series and the funniest thing is, we all like the drunk stance which is the mainstay of Wiro Sableng when fighting criminals. We even made a replica of Wiro's Ax and played it as if the ax was really magical.

Back to the movie, Wiro Sableng is an Indonesian colossal comedy film that has won the best film award in 2018. I really agree because this film is very good in terms of story, action, and sense of comedy. Even so, this film still has many holes.

The most obvious holes is character development. Throughout the story I felt that I did not know the characters closely. Except for Wiro who has a background, the others are not visualized like Mahesa, why is he the main villain in this film. Likewise the treacherous commander who wants to overthrow the kingdom with the King's younger brother. Everything is explained only through dialogue which reduces the feel of emotion from this film.

  • Full of Stars

The fact that this film has many stars, is the most interesting thing. Throughout the appearance of each role made me gape, because the actors who were there were really not new born actors. They're veterans.

I will not talk about Vino G Bastian who plays Wiro Sableng because he is totally the best actor. He has brought the character of Wiro Sableng very well, as well as his silat moves, very convincing.

Like Sherina who plays Anggini. He is not a real actor, but a child singer who was famous for his film Petualangan Sherina. He plays the role of Anggini who is a little bitchy but is good at playing the shawl as his main weapon. It looks really cool.

Likewise with other actors such as Dwi Sasono (King Kamandaka), Marcella Zalianty (Empress), Lukman Sardi (King's brother), Aghniny Haque (a debutant who plays Rara Murni), she also has a slick appearance even though this is his first film. Teuku Rifnu Wikana who successfully played a traitor, even the appearance of Marcel Siahaan and Happy Salma which only lasted for a short time was very cool. and also fariz alfarizi who plays Bujang Gila Tapak Sakti who manages to present a funny comedy. Don't forget the Villain, Mahesa played by Yayan Ruhian who has played in several Hollywood films, his appearance is very slick, even though he is too skinny to be a villain hehehe

  • Their Costume is the Best

I like the costumes in this movie except the King costume which is not so fancy. The costume that I like the most is the Anggini costume, which is maroon in color and made from a fabric typical of one region in Indonesia. Other costumes for female warriors are also not very revealing, I like it, where usually the fighter costumes in the Colossal series for female warriors are very revealing. In this film no, there is no overexploitation of the bodies of the actors and actresses.

  • Smooth CGI

The CGI here is really smooth. like when Wiro Sableng took the Ax from his body, it wasn't like CGI. Yes, that's great. The silat scene is so real, even though it's a bit slow. I'm not sure if silat really doesn't have speed or what.

But overall this film is worth watching twice, and I probably would.

I give this film 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I hope there is a second series of this film because I want to see the rise of colossal films in Indonesia.

Thanks for reading my review.. Hasta la vista...!

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of them are romance.

Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author.
