It wasn't just for the money.
If you're one of the people who believe that cinema is "dying", and that it will disappear in the coming years, you'd better start rethinking your views, because the evidence points in a different direction. Last weekend, and contrary to even all of the entertainment industry's financial statistics, the Seventh Art managed to achieve a new record: the highest-grossing weekend in its entire history up to this point. You read that right.
The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day were the two main movies responsible for this achievement. Together, in a single weekend (considering only the box office figures from the United States and Canada), they earned just over US$ 430 million. The international market helped raise that figure to levels never before seen in this industry. This event convinced me that cinema will continue to thrive.
Personally speaking, I have always believed that. However, now it's actually possible to support that belief with something beyond my own personal desire to see it happen. The capitalist side of the event (driven by the major studios) is a rather sad aspect; on the other hand, it's good to know that not everything is always about the money (or "pure entertainment"). People went to theaters because they genuinely wanted to experience a full (and real) cinematic journey.
Taking this perspective a little further, and paying close attention to what each of these two types of movies represents, the audience is placing on the same "pedestal" a movie dominated by the use of highly practical effects alongside a movie dominated by the use of highly digital effects. I was genuinely surprised to see this happening, and for a brief moment, I could even envision a brighter future for what is still to come.
Perhaps this record was just an isolated behavioral anomaly, but even so, it's important to recognize the immense significance of this major event with the respect it deserves (regardless of whether or not you like the movies mentioned). Quite literally, this was a loud and clear response from the audience, making their interest in this form of art unmistakable. The financial aspect may attract more attention... But in the end, it is the essence of the Seventh Art that prevails.

Yendo un poco más allá en este punto de vista, y prestando mucha atención a lo que representa cada uno de estos dos tipos de películas, el público está colocando en el mismo “pedestal” una película dominada por el uso de efectos muy prácticos junto a otra dominada por el uso de efectos muy digitales. Me sorprendió mucho ver que eso ocurriera y, por un breve momento, incluso logré vislumbrar un futuro mejor para lo que aún está por venir.
Tal vez este récord haya sido solo un comportamiento aislado y pasajero, pero aun así es necesario reconocer el enorme peso de este acontecimiento de gran impacto con el respeto que merece (independientemente de que te gusten o no las películas mencionadas). Talvez esse recorde tenha sido apenas um lapso comportamental isolado, mas ainda sim, é preciso reconhecer o peso brutal desse evento de grande impacto com o respeito que ele merece (independente ou não de você gostar dos filmes mencionados). Literalmente, essa foi uma resposta (em alto e bom som) vinda do público, que deixou claro o interesse deles por esse tipo de arte. O aspecto financeiro repercute mais facilmente... Mas é essência da Sétima Arte que vence.

I feel like the box office has become something of a bang-or-bust. Things either do extremely well and defy all expectations, or they do the opposite and bomb horrifically.
Maybe I don't pay enough attention, but I've not seen an article lately describing a film breaking even, or performing within margins of expectation.
Hopefully the studios will pay attention to what is earning money and steer the industry in the right direction. Clearly the solution to profitable film making isn't in the levels of CGI, I think it is in competent escapism and good storytelling.
Even Indy flms have shown that good storytelling and film making is the key to success. Obsession was a great movie, and i don't believe it to be a Unicorn.
Anyway, I enjoyed both films (that you've shown) immensely.

Interestingly, it was this last weekend that I happened to contribute to it as I went to see the Odyssey (though not in the US). It was the first time in many years (not sure how many, certainly more than ten) that I went to the cinema. It was okay. Kinda like seeing a live concert. Not something you would do on a regular basis, but occasionally it's a special experience.
Going to the movies isn't about time (though I could never go ten years without going to the cinema, haha), but mainly about the pleasure of going there.
Don't the two go hand in hand? If I don't find pleasure in the cinema (mostly because at home I can also get a nice audiovisual experience, together with the freedom to pause, go back, have a discussion in the middle, take a bathroom break or cut some cheese, without the distractions, and all for minimal cost) then I don't go for a while... until years add up. I know, it may seem weird, and 30 years ago, when I used to go to the movies more frequently, I wouldn't have believed myself that one day this would happen!
It would be excellent if everyone thought the same way we do, haha!
That's really crazy.
Times change, but I hope my love for cinema withstands everything.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive

Hello everyone I hope you are all good and well today in this post is some of the evidence to prove my case
If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does
Everyone already knows I only post my own original content I have no need to steal anything from anyone
