Forrest Gump's Bubba Gump Shrimp In Tokyo

Are you familiar with the famous film Forrest Gump? There are scenes in the movie that they were talking about shrimps and how it is the food of the sea. You could make several dishes from shrimps. If you haven't watched the movie, I think you definitely should!

This post isn't about the movie though. It's all about Bubba Gump, the restaurant that was inspired from this movie - Forrest Gump. It's an American restaurant and it has 3 branches in Japan, 2 in Tokyo and 1 in Osaka.

I think it was around 2018 when I went to the branch in Osaka with friends. Its location is just right outside Universal Studios Japan, which is called Universal City. The restaurant is not super big, but not small either. It could get crowded so make sure to go there early.

Prior to going there, my friends and I watched the movie together so we would understand the place and can relate it to the movie. Indeed, it was a good decision.

Now that I am living in Tokyo, and 4 years after my first visit to the restaurant, I wouldn't miss going to the Bubba Gump Shrimps Restaurant in the city. So last Friday, I invited my friends to a get together and our favorite past time - food trip!

There are 2 branches of Bubba Gump in Tokyo, one in Toyosu and one in Tokyo Dome. We went to the place where there's a view while dining so Toyosu it is!

Toyosu is actually a man-made island located in Koto-ku, a city located in the souther part of Tokyo. It's near Odaiba so yep, you got that right, this island is located in Tokyo Bay.

Bubba Gump restaurant is found in the 3rd floor of the shopping mall called Lalaport Toyosu. The shopping mall is huge and can be accessible easily from the subway.

My friends and I met around 5PM but we weren't on time (oh no Filipino time!). There were many people waiting in line, mostly families with little kids. It was funny watching the impatient little kids because some of them were lying down the floor, I think because they were so bored from waiting.

The restaurant was full of memorabilia from the movie. They even play the movie clips in a small monitor all over the restaurant. The famous scene where Forrest was sitting down on a bench with a box of chocolates was even recreated and found in the entrance.

They have a souvenir shop too where you could do some shopping after being full.

After waiting for maybe 30 mins, we were ushered to our seat and it was a big round table. It's not the window seat but we could still see the view. It's just the table was really big for us but eventually, we understood why. The plates of the food we ordered were big too. 😅

We ordered a lot for 5 people.. or maybe it's enough for us big eaters? 😅

The Baby Back Ribs that we ordered was good. It's big for Japanese standards, of course we're in an American chain, but we can't helped but compare it to Outback Steakhouse Restaurant's baby back ribs. 3 of us have went there early this month and I posted about it here so we could still clearly recall how heavenly the ribs was. The meat of the ribs in Bubba Gump was easy to get though. I was only using a fork to get it and it's that soft!

The main highlight of our dish is the Shrimper's Net Catch. It comes in 2 flavors: Bubba's Garlic Spice and Secret Cajun Spice. One of my friends doesn't like garlic so we got the cajun. It's no the same cajun sauce I used to have in the Philippines when eating at Choobi Choobi restaurant in Cebu City but it's definitely tasty! We got the large one because when I went to the Osaka branch before, I remembered I had the small portion all by myself. 😂 It is that good!

Forrest's Seafood Feast is a combination of fried shrimp and fish and chips. There is also a food they called Seafood Hush Pops that was included in this set but unfortunately I was not able to taste it. My friends were so sneaky but they told me it was really good. Dipping it in the sauce makes it more delicious.

We also got the Shrimp Shack Mac & Cheese but we didn't like how it tasted. Personally, I didn't like it because the sauce taste like an alcoholic drink. My friends didn't like it too but we still managed to finish eating it. LOL

There's more that you can order in this restaurant but mostly you can order the different dishes that are using shrimp.

We had drinks of course. I for one was thirsty when we were waiting for our seat so I really wanted to drink something. In the main menu book. we couldn't find some juice or soft drinks so we ordered their cocktails. And no, it's not early to be drinking alcohol. 😂

I got the Pineapple Margarita because I like pineapples. I was about to order L.T. Dan's Pomegranate Punch but it has vodka in it and vodka and I aren't the best buddies.

The drink was so refreshing, a little sweet but with a hint of alcohol when you drank it. It was so good that I think I got tipsy from drinking too much in a gulp. 😂 My friends wouldn't believe me though.

The best part of ordering this drink was I got to bring home the shaker! For free! So those in the menu that has a star in it, you can take it home. It's really a good decision we got these drinks because paying for the item itself in their souvenir shop's expensive. I now have my own shaker in the house!

By the way, the shaker I got was a new stock, not this one from our dinner.

My friend ordered Fizzy Fun, a non-alcoholic drink that comes in a light up glass. It's like the perfect party glass, and it screamed attention from people that people from the next table were looking at the drink. 😅

Just when I thought our stay in the restaurant was over, we're not yet done. We stayed another hour for desserts.

We ordered all desserts in their menu and the staff wasn't kidding when she told us it's a big serving. It was sweet and full of whipped cream! My favorite was the Alabama Brownie while my friends liked the Chocolate Chip Cookie. They all came with an ice cream which complements the pastry.

We were so stuffed when we went out. Our bill was kinda expensive but when we all received a souvenir, it seems like it's all worth it. 😅

I would definitely come back to this place again some time in the future, maybe with my partner. I want to show this restaurant to him and I also need to collect the glass that my other friends received as a souvenir. Gotta catch em all 😂
