Friday Night, Movie Night at Shinjuku Piccadilly | Shinjuku on a Friday Night

Today is #MarketFriday, an initiative by @dswigle and this is a story about my Friday night as well. You can learn more about Market Friday here or you can visit the community.

It's Friday night! Work for this week has officially finished and usually I celebrate my Friday nights at home, watching anime or tv shows. But for this night, I decided to head over to the theatre by myself to watch a movie - an english movie. I don't usually watch english shows (I know, I'm sorry) and I can't justify why. It just depends on my mood and my mood has always been Japanese and Korean shows. So watching a movie in English is somewhat surprising.

The theatre is in Shinjuku, Tokyo, few minutes train ride from home. I wanted to walk to exercise but I figured I might reek of sweat so I'll reserve the walk home I took the train home because it started drizzling.

Friday night and Shinjuku well, it's chaotic. Everywhere there are loads of people, walking drunk, sitting on the streets drunk, and worst, lying on the streets drunk! It's chaotic, and the cinema is just across the Red Light District of Tokyo so you'd see a lot of stuff.

Shinjuku

Main Alley in Kabukicho, the Red Light District. Idk what that guy was doing as if he's posing for a photo LOL

The movie theatre is named Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema. I usually watch movies in Toho Cinemas, which is somewhat the most popular cinema in Japan, but this time, I went on a little adventure and so Piccadilly it is.

The ticket for a regular movie with a regular seat usually costs around 2,000 yen (around 15 USD). It would cost more for a 3d movie, or for more comfortable and luxurious seats.

So the main reason why I was watching a movie in this theatre was because I received a coupon which will expire on June. The coupon is only applicable to Shochiku Multiplex Theatres (SMT) and Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema is part of it. Because of the coupon, I only paid 1,200 yen (around 9.4 USD) for the movie! (Well, still expensive but this is Japan LOL, it's not expensive)

It's my first time in this theatre! Upon entering the building, this guy will welcome you.

Welcoming the movie goers

I reserved the ticket online so I would need to get the printed ticket in the cinema lobby.

The movie I watched was Fantastic Beats: The Secrets of Dumbledore. I've been planning to watch the movie since its opening last April 8, but I already forgot about FB1 and haven't watched FB2. It wouldn't be advisable to watch the 3rd in the series if I skipped the first 2. So prior to watching this movie, I watched FB1 last weekend and FB2? Well, I just finished watching it this morning! 😅

It's in Cinema 6 and well, I didn't know I had to take the escalator going up to the 9th floor from the 3rd floor which is where the lobby is. It's probably the first time I rode the escalator going way up just to get to the cinema. Usually theaters are just on that same floor as the lobby or 1 floor higher.

Taking my pop corn and drink to the 9th floor where cinema 6 is! Of course it's a movie there must be pop corn!

At last, I arrived!

Cinema 6! Sorry bad angle

Some CM before the main event

View from my seat - nice and cozy until someone sat beside me. Ugh!

Not a very good angle but this is the regular seats

So of course, I must not use my phone during the movie but let me tell you a little about it my thoughts. Well, it was nice. I was actually lost for words but I had fun watching it. They filmed in different locations and the graphics were so good. I would want to watch it again, but not in the cinemas - just at home. The movie I watched has Japanese subtitles, not the dubbed version LOL, so I kept reading at the subs from time to time. It's already a habit. Anyways, the movie was really great - I just miss Johnny Depp in there. And there was really a funny scene that I couldn't stop smiling (not laughing because the Japanese are so well mannered and defined in watching the movie, I wouldn't want to annoy them) - that was when the main character and his brother did some pose that I really think was weird. 😂

Anyways, that's all for the movie review. If you want to know more about the film, you can check it on Wikipedia.

Finished the large pop corn by myself and the movie was finished. Outside the cinema, there are some posters for the upcoming films so I checked them and oh my, there are a lot of good movies to look forward to this year.

Coming soon!

Cinemas across

There were a lot of people who watched the movie even though it's already almost 2 months since it aired in Japan. I guess they also thought that it's not yet too late to watch it. Heard some people's feedback and they were positive.

That's how my Friday night went. Overall, I spent around 2,000 yen (around 15 USD) for the movie and the snacks. Not bad I guess. How about yours? Any stuff sizzling this Friday night? Let me know in the comments section below!

See you around!
またね!

Love all the neon lights in the streets. I’m about to paints some… but in the night time when all is dark.
What a large movie theatre. Escalators going up. The seats look comfy…
We haven’t seen the movie yet, but it is on the planning, good you didn’t tell to much about it 😉🤓
I watched 1 and 2 but I think I need to refresh a bit as it has been a while before we will watch it.
Thanks for taking us along on your trip. It was fun 🤩
Happy weekend 👋🏻☀️

avatar

Thank you @littlebee4!
I would want to see your paintings! I'm pretty sure it will turn out very great!
Yeah, the movie theatre is so large, it occupied almost the whole building, except for the 1st floor.
I don't want to share some spoilers so I just really shared my thoughts about the movie. I hope you will watch soon! It's almost 2 months they might remove it in the cinemas. Heard it won't be available in Netflix but only on HBO Max. If you have a subscription in HBO Max, you don't need to go to the cinemas.

Happy weekend too!

avatar

You are so welcome @wittyzell 😊
Have a few other projects first lined up. But will let you know. 😁 thanks!
Think it is just here in the cinema, we are way behind.
Not sure we have HBO Max… will look into it.

Thank you kindly, enjoy yours too 👋🏻☀️💃🏻

avatar

I followed you so I will be notified of your posts! 😇

Think it is just here in the cinema, we are way behind.

Really? That seems unfortunate.
I thought here we're already behind but in that place maybe it's way more behind.
Hopefully you can watch the movie!

avatar

I did the same, thank you kindly 😁 nice to meet you here!
Releases are different in many countries. Will find out. But first I think I watch 1 and 2 again as I can’t remember much of it hahaha

avatar

It's all so bright that it looks like Day but it's Night.
Beautiful.
All Cinemas are designed alike, looks very similar, seats and screen to what we have here.

That popcorn enough for you? well maybe i eat alil too much😆
Basically enough to see me throughout or half-way the movie.
LoL
Hope you enjoyed the film.

avatar

This part of Shinjuku does not sleep! 😅
It's packed with drunk people! You should see them in action, it's really fun to watch them! 😂

Pop corn was well, enough for me. I finished it all. But too shy to eat it, the person sitting beside me might get annoyed by my chewing sounds. 🤣

I enjoyed the film! It's not the first time I watched a movie alone (my bf's too busy working). If the movie was dubbed, I think I won't enjoy it. LOL

avatar

Awe! always good to treat yourself out Sis, Let your man work😂
I don't know, maybe our cinemas is really loud, nobody really hears the next person, or maybe I never cared😆.
Have Fun🥂

avatar

Yes! We must not be too dependent on other people!
We can do things by ourselves! 😅
I think the cinemas over there are just really loud, and people too! 😅

avatar

😂Eh!? I see right through...no one is as loud of the people over there. So yeah, don't eat popcorn😛

avatar

Hahahaha! Pop corn goes well with movies! 😂 Can’t give it up!

avatar

Oh! I haven't seen it yet! It is on the agenda soon!

I know I shouldn't, but, I love the Red Light District! The photography opportunities are endless. I think you did a great job with your phone. Some phones are better than many cameras. I do like how the tall buildings and the bright lights make a brilliant shot.

The theatre is huge! I have used an escalator for a theater before, but only for one floor. That was way up there! I do like the comfortable-looking chairs, it makes the experience better. I have gotten to where I like the movies at home almost better, although, you really can't beat the humongous-sized screens. I also can't believe when the theatre is so empty, someone chooses to sit right next to you! Ewww! Perhaps you had the best seat? :)

This was such a fun post! Thank you so much for taking the time to join #MarketFriday!

#MarketFriday loves you!

avatar

I really like taking snaps of roads and buildings and what better place than the busy streets of the Red Light District! Thank you for appreciating my phone shots!

I have used an escalator for a theater before, but only for one floor.

Right! The cinema doesn't even end at the 9th floor. It's way high! Can't believe it 😅

I also like the comfort of home but sometimes, we just need to experience it better in the theatre. And yeah, maybe I chose the best seat? 😅 I don't know what's up with those people sitting next to me. 😂

Thank you for the love, #MarketFriday!
Cheers to more!

avatar

I love it too, but, I know I take too many pictures! I agree with you! The Red Light District is the most colorful! I feel the same way about Times Square in New York City! Neon lights and eye-catching personalies!

I have slept in hotels that were over 50 floors and it makes me nauteous just thinking about sleeping that high. Plus after 9/11 I am not so excited to sleep on floors the firemen cannot reach!

I feel the exact same. Sometimes it is so much better on BIG SCREEN! Haha! You know you chose the best seat! LOL

Cheers! Good morning from Washington, DC! Have a great day!

avatar

I haven't been to US! Would be interesting! Very nice subject!
I hope I can go there even once in my life! 🙏🏽 Maybe my phone’s memory will be full because of the photos 😂

I haven’t thought about the firemen. Now that you mentioned it, it keeps me thinking now. I guess you are right, it’s going to hard reaching higher floors! Hope that they improve on that to make us feel at ease. There are a lot of tall buildings in these modern times.

Cheers!

Wow, if I just could be in real life there... You had to go by elevator to get to the cinema? That is a huge building for a cinema, indeed!

Well, I was supposed to go to the cinema too, to watch the movie Ennio, The Maestro. It was yesterday evening.

I felt the whole day that I am forgetting something... and later in the evening I remembered: I forgot to go to watch the movie 🤣🤣 What a fail hahaha

avatar

Hahahaha! What a day! Good thing you didn’t buy thet tickets in advance or it shall go to waste 😂

Yeah I am as surprised as you are right now! I didn’t think it could go higher! The cinemas don’t end at 9th floor, I still saw more cinemas way up. It’s an interesting design 😅

avatar

Yeah, I didn't buy them in advance, but maybe if I did, I would remember to go. That was the last day of that movie in the cinema btw... That's why I was sorry when I remembered late.

Wow, still more cinemas going up? 😎 🙌

avatar

Oh really? That’s kinda unfortunate. Hope you can still see the movie in other platforms like HBO Max. They won’t have it in Netflix so it’s really kinda disappointing.

Yeah, more cinemas going up. The design of this building is crazy! (I meant that in a good way)

avatar

WOW!

Japan is awesome !
My desires to know Japan were aroused with the photos you just showed. Wonderful place. The movie theater looks so luxurious and avant-garde and the price is almost the same as a movie theater here in the USA. Great post

avatar

Really?? I haven’t been to the US so I didn’t know that til now. So it’s the standard price then.. hmm
In the Philippines, it’s cheaper so when I was there, I kept watching movies on my free time. 😅

I hope I can also go to the US and watch a movie there so compare! There are more luxurious cinemas here than this one. This is just a regular cinema.

Hope you can visit Japan soon! It’s really better to see it for yourself in person, not virtual. But for now, thanks for enjoying the virtual tour!

avatar

Wow, lahi ra gyud ang Japan, advance kaayo sila compare sa ato a, Hoping maka visit ako dito soon.

avatar

It’s really advanced in a lot of areas. But of course, lahi ra jud ang Pinas 😅

avatar

Oh, I love Japan through your eyes! Or with your phone camera. !LOLZ Didn't see the movie, but the fact that Johnny Depp is in it is worth watching!

City life.. If I would choose where to spend my weekends, I would choose to go to the countryside after spending my Friday nights in the chaotic city. 😅

avatar

You always take me to beautiful places with your lovely pictures. And oh that popcorn... Yummy

avatar

Thank you for being here @joydukeson!
And yes, the pop corn was so good. It's caramel. 😅
