Review of Netflix's Workplace Comedy 'Superstore'

On Twitter, CineTV asked what new shows we've been watching on Netflix and I think I have one you might be interested in if you like Sitcoms.

You know how you start a new show and you're like, "Why didn't I watch this before now?!" Well, that was me when I started watching Superstore on Netflix. It's not a new show as it's been on since 2015 with six seasons but it's new to me.

I immediately found it interesting because it's set in a big supermarket and it shows how the employees interact with themselves and the customers. It is just the perfect peep into the lives of supermarket workers since I've always wondered how their days go.

Each time I'm at the supermarket and see the workers or one of them comes to my aid, my imagination runs wild and I wonder what the person's life is like or what they talk about between themselves about customers.

I've even thought about writing a short story about it but I never really got to it. Imagine how exciting it was to see my thoughts in action on this show.

This show is so funny but you have to be glued because it's the conversations that are funny. There's always something weirdly funny going on in the store every time. If it isn't with the employees, it's with the very weird customers they usually have.

I'm currently in the fourth season now and I've noticed that there are intermissions in every episode where a shopper is shown doing something odd in the store. You just keep asking yourself, "wtf is going on here?!" when you're watching this show.

There are at least 25 consistent characters on the show and they are all unique. Everyone's funny in their own right and from one scene to the next, you look forward to seeing what's up with the different characters.

It's so hard to even pick a favourite because they all make me laugh. I can't classify all of their relationships as healthy but I can say they've got a family thing going on at the store.

Of course, some people hate each other, some love themselves, some banter all the time, and some others even have sex with each other, but there's the communal feeling that comes with working at Cloud 9.

My top characters in no particular order are; the bossy Dina, sarcastic Garrett, lying Sandra, competitive Mateo, mummy Amy, the fixer Jonah, and the very weird Marcus. Okay, maybe there's actually order because I listed them in the order of weird/competitive, logical, weird, competitive, logical, weird again 😄

The thing is nobody is actually sane on this show because even the seemingly sane ones end up doing crazy stuff. If you've seen this show can you tell me why Dina always wears the same Halloween outfit every year?

The competition on the show is always hilarious, the interactions with customers, usual fights with management, and the few touching moments are worth bingeing on.

I have watched it every single day for the last two weeks and I'm so going to miss it when I'm done. I definitely recommend if you love sitcoms.
