Fear The Night|| Consequences Of Being In The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time

From all the movies I've watched and all the shared experiences I've heard, bachelorette parties are usually fun. I haven't been to one before but I should, soon enough. This movie got me thinking about what I would do if I even went to an event and things went sideways. Would I be able to defend myself? Or I would just keep screaming my lungs out. Now that I think of it, I should start taking Kung Fu lessons.

The movie I would be reviewing today is titled "Fear the night*. It's amusing how I watched this movie at night even when the title said otherwise. You can blame my inquisitive nature for that.

Fear the night is an American action thriller film, written and directed by Neil La Bute. Released on the 21th of July, fear the night is one of the most fast paced movies I've ever seen. One hour and thirty minutes just went by and it felt like only thirty minutes.

About The Movie

Eight ladies gathered for a bachelorette party at a remote farmhouse. The party was in full swing until they were interrupted by masked intruders. Now, the ladies are faced with the decision to either fight for their lives or die trying.

One thing about being in the wrong place at the wrong time is the fact that you're never prepared for whatever is coming. With the sudden appearance of intruders, there was unrest amongst the ladies. Some were screaming their guts out while the others were thinking strategically. Survival was the goal.

Cast

Maggie Q as Tess

Tess plays the role of an introverted sister who had just returned from a war. She tries her best not to be a party pooper but her best wasn't good enough. Tess is determined and always pays close attention to every single detail and when things went sideways, she took up the responsibility to protect the rest of the ladies to the best of her ability.

Right from the first time I saw Maggie Q in the movie Nikita, I've always loved her acting. She performed splendidly as Tess.

Kat Foster as Beth

Beth is Tess' sister who was constantly trying to ensure that Tess was at her best behaviour. This led to constant fall outs and arguments between the sisters but in the end, the sisterhood bond kept them going.

It didn't take so long before Beth realised that there was no changing Tess. With this realisation, she decided to let things slide.

Gia Crovatin as Mia

Mia was one of the eight ladies who just wanted to celebrate with her friends but when things went south, she portrayed so much courage. At some point, she played the role of a bait and that alone shows so much courage.

I can't imagine myself accepting to be used as bait when I know nothing about self defence. Well, Mia did. If there was a courage award then she would be the bearer of that award.

Ito Aghayere as Noella

Noella was the only dark skinned friend in the pack. Because of this, I paid special attention to her whenever she came up. Noella was another character who performed splendidly. Her facial expression and gestures were just on point. She also played her part in ensuring that everyone got out safely.

Travis Hammer as Perry

Perry acted the role of an annoying human who was self centred and headstrong. Has there ever been a time when a movie character annoyed you so much that you felt like passing your hands through the screen and giving them a knock? That was how I felt with Perry.

Along the line, he revealed his face to the ladies as he was the leader of the masked intruder. Surprised much.

My Opinion

This movie was interesting but twisted. One minute you feel that you've got the plot all figured out and the next minute, you're kept guessing. Right till the very last scene of the movie, I was still wondering what would happen next.

From the title of the movie, I expected it to be filled with so much eeriness but no it wasn't. The director of the movie was rather direct and straight to the point. There were no prolonged or awfully boring scenes. Every scene was precise and every little action led to a buildup of zest. It was indeed a good one.

The plot was one that could keep viewers glued to their screens. Every cast had their role to play and they delivered beautifully. The only thing that lacked was the tension/thriller build up.

Recommendation

This movie clearly portrayed the fact that every action has its consequences. Hence, before taking action, one has to think. It also demonstrated the fact that teamwork makes the dream work. I would recommend this movie to any one who wants to learn a thing or two about unity, friendship and teamwork.
