En esta ocasión les vengo a compartir una película escrita y digirida por Adam Robitel del género terror / suspenso y de metraje encontrado ("found footage") la cual tiene una mezcla perfecta y poco común entre lo sobrenatural, drama humano y psicológico. Sus principales personajes son Deborah Logan (Jill Larson), Sarah Logan (Anne Ramsay) y Mia Medina (Michelle Ang. Sin más preámbulos...

Synopsis

Mia, a medical student, and two classmates will be making a documentary for her doctoral thesis on Alzheimer's to show the progression of the disease and how it affects both the patient and the caregiver, and for this project she will capture the daily life of Deborah Logan, an elderly woman who suffers from this disease and lives with her daughter Sarah in a house in Virginia, who agrees to participate for financial assistance for treatment.

At first everything seems to go according to the normal course of the disease: confusion, forgetfulness, mood swings, but from one moment to another, the behavior of our protagonist becomes something inexplicable by science, as she starts having episodes of supernatural violence, speaking in ancient languages, behaving in an unusual way. And from that moment on, our documentary becomes something more sinister.

Sipnosis

Mia, es estudiante de medicina y junto a dos compañeros estará realizando un documental para su tesis doctoral sobre el Alzheimer con el fin de mostrar el avance de la enfermedad y como afecta tanto al paciente como a la persona que lo cuida, y para este proyecto capturará el día a día de Deborah Logan, una mujer mayor que padece de esta enfermedad y que vive con su hija Sarah en una casa en Virginia, la cual accede a participar por la ayuda económica para el tratamiento.

Al principio todo parece ir de acuerdo a lo normal de la enfermedad: confusión, olvido, cambios de humor pero de un momento a otro, el comportamiento de nuestra protagonista se vuelve en algo inexplicable por la ciencia, ya que empieza a tener episodios de violencia sobrenaturales, hablar en lenguas antiguas, se comporta de manera inusual. Y a partir de ese momento nuestro documental se convierte en algo más siniestro.

My humble opinion

It is a 2014 film that has a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes, despite the years since its release it hooks you from the first moment making it worth every second it lasts. It is incredible how the director achieves a great work making it feel so real, as with this kind of movies many times it is not achieved because of the abrupt movements of the camera. It makes you wonder if this is really how the disease progresses and then there is the masterful way in which he achieves that transition between the disease and the demonic.

And the acting of each character is really very good, and not to mention Jill Larson is phenomenal, her performance manages to convey vulnerability, confusion and the threat she feels with total naturalness. Despite being a horror film, you also get to feel the unconditional love of a mother for her daughter, the vulnerability of old age, the loss of identity, and the burden of caregivers.

Mi humilde opinión

Es una película del año 2014 que tiene una duración de 1 hora y 30 minutos, a pesar de los años desde su estreno te engancha desde el primer momento haciendo que valga la pena cada segundo que dura. Es increíble como el director logra una grandiosa obra haciéndola sentir tan real, ya que con este tipo de películas muchas veces no se logra por los movimientos bruscos de la cámara. Te hace estar en duda sobre si realmente así es el avance de esta enfermedad y luego esta la manera magistral en que logra esa transición entre la enfermedad y lo demoníaco.

Y la actuación de cada personaje es realmente muy buena, y ni hablar de Jill Larson es fenomenal su actuación te logra transmitir vulnerabilidad, confusión y la amenaza que siente todo con total naturalidad. A pesar, de ser una película de terror también llegas a sentir el amor incondicional de una madre hacia su hija, vulnerabilidad de la vejez, la pérdida de identidad, y el peso que cargan los cuidadores.

For me this film is full of disturbing scenes where psychological terror plays a fundamental role, scenes that leave you with your mouth open because of how grotesque they can be. One of them is when Deborah is seen eating the soil of her garden as if she wanted to eat something buried to eliminate it and another is when after a violent episode she is in the hospital with a look between empty and sinister.

Para mí esta película esta llena de escenas perturbadoras en donde el terror psicológico juega un papel fundamental, escenas donde te dejan con la boca abierta de lo grotesca que pueden ser. Una de ellas es cuando se ve a Deborah comiendose la tierra de su jardín como si quisiera comerse algo enterrado para eliminarlo y otra es cuando luego de un episodio violento esta en el hospital con una mirada entre vacía y siniestra.
