As my second recommendation for dad-themed movies, I'm sharing one that I loved and had a lot of fun watching. It's truly an excellent choice for this upcoming Father's Day weekend to enjoy with your family. Even though it's over 20 years old, it's the kind of film that never goes out of style. That's why I didn't hesitate to include it as a second option to remind us how important the father figure is in the life of every boy and girl.

It premiered in 2003, directed by Steve Carr, and is known in Latin America as Daddy's Daycare and in Spain as Daddy Kangaroo. This children's comedy starred Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garlin, Steve Zahn, Regina King, among others.
What's the plot about?…
The story follows the lives of Charlie and Phil, two fathers and successful advertising executives who, overnight, lose their jobs due to layoffs and the fact that the product they were in charge of doesn't receive the best reputation. Left without income and facing the harsh reality of not being able to afford the expensive and elitist private daycare centers in the city for their children—and finding that none of the more affordable options met their needs or were even suitable—they are left to care for their children while their wives work. However, after a conversation with a neighbor, Charlie comes up with a desperate but brilliant idea: to open his own childcare center in his own home.
What begins as an impromptu attempt to earn money and care for their own children soon spirals into an absolute and chaotic whirlwind. With no prior experience in childcare, these two parents (later joined by their quirky friend Marvin) find themselves completely overwhelmed by a group of hyperactive, mischievous children with very different personalities. Will they be able to successfully pull off this venture? Despite the obstacles, will they understand that true value goes beyond having a high-paying job?
Personal opinion
I find this film incredibly charismatic, and even with the passage of time, it retains that touch that's entertaining throughout. Best of all, it knows exactly what it is: a family comedy designed to make you laugh and touch your heart. Although it resorts to some slapstick clichés (diaper jokes, slapstick, messiness), it has such a brisk pace that it never feels boring; it's a cinematic "safe haven" that has aged remarkably well.
Now, this film uses the same hero's journey formula: the protagonist falls from grace (losing his corporate job) to find his true purpose in the most unexpected place (a makeshift daycare). However, everything is very well balanced, as we see the contrast between being a company employee and being a free, home-loving childcare worker who seeks to understand what the children need and not be bound by rigid structures, like those at the prestigious rival daycare. He understands that he has to listen to these little beings and know what they need, because they have to enjoy being in a place that isn't their home. I also feel that it plays very well with pacing; the transition from "these men have no idea what to do" to "they are genuinely connecting with the children" doesn't feel forced. The script takes the time to show that the daycare's success doesn't come about by magic, but through pure empathy and patience.
Regarding the actors and their performances, let's first talk about Eddie Murphy, whom we're used to seeing in these kinds of roles, but more restrained, tender, and paternal than in his comedies of the '80s or '90s, without losing his brilliant facial expressiveness and comedic timing. As for the rest of the actors who accompany him on this babysitting journey, Jeff Garlin is the perfect counterweight to Murphy, bringing a more physical and relaxed humor; he represents the average man caught in a ridiculous situation. And with Steve Zahn, his character, a nerdy science fiction fanatic who lives with his mother, is the one who truly connects with children's language. Zahn steals almost every scene he's in with his innocent charisma.
Positive points…
- The chemistry of the three leads: These three truly achieve fantastic charisma; their characters complement each other perfectly, and they flawlessly executed their performances.
- An endearing Eddie Murphy: Here, he displays a much more tender, paternal, and human side, beautifully balancing comedy with heart.
- Apt critique of pressure on children: A great strength is how it exposes and satirizes schools that try to push 4- or 5-year-olds to act like "mini-executives," defending the idea that children simply need to play and be children.
- The charisma of the child cast: The children don't feel stiff or overacted. They have very distinct and funny personalities (from the boy who speaks in strange languages to the one who thinks he's a superhero) that steal the show.
Negative points…
- Overuse of scatological and physical humor: The film falls too often into typical 2000s comedy clichés: fart jokes, dirty diapers, children vomiting, or accidental groin injuries. For some adults, this humor may feel a bit childish or repetitive.
- Somewhat cartoonish villains: Although Anjelica Huston gives an incredible performance, her character and the daycare inspector are almost like Sunday morning cartoon villains. They lack nuance and are evil "just because."
- SPOILER - Somewhat idyllic resolution: The final twist, where the financial and space problems are resolved so perfectly and quickly, may feel a bit unrealistic or overly saccharine, even by the standards of a family comedy.

Como segunda recomendación de películas con temática de papás, vengo con una que amé y me divertí mucho viéndola, realmente es una excelente opción para este fin de semana que viene el día del padre y disfruten en familia, a pesar de que ya tiene más de 20 años de haber salido, es ese estilo de filme que nunca pasa de moda, por ello, no dude en poner esta como segunda opción para recordar lo importante que es la figura paterna en la vida de todo niño y niña.

Fue estrenada para el año 2003, bajo la dirección de Steve Carr, y es conocida en Latinoamérica como la Guardería de Papá y en España como Papá Canguro y esta comedia infantil fue protagonizada por Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garlin, Steve Zahn, Regina King, entre otros.
¿De qué va la trama?…
La historia sigue la vida Charlie y Phil, dos padres de familia y exitosos ejecutivos de publicidad que, de la noche a la mañana, pierden sus empleos debido a un recorte de personal y que el producto del que estaban a cargo no obtiene la mejor reputación. Al quedarse sin ingresos y enfrentarse a la dura realidad de no poder pagar las costosas y elitistas guarderías privadas de la ciudad para sus hijos, además de que, al buscar opciones más rentables, ninguna cumplió con el objetivo, aunado de nada aptas, les toca cuidarlos, mientras sus esposas trabajan; no obstante, tras una conversación con una vecina, a Charlie se le ocurre una idea desesperada pero brillante: abrir su propio centro de cuidado infantil en su propia casa.
Lo que empieza como un intento improvisado por generar dinero y cuidar a sus propios hijos pronto se convierte en un absoluto y caótico torbellino. Sin ninguna experiencia previa en el cuidado de niños, estos dos padres (a los que luego se les une su peculiar amigo Marvin) se ven completamente superados por un grupo de niños hiperactivos, traviesos y con personalidades muy distintas ¿Serán capaz de llevar a cabo con éxito este emprendimiento? ¿A pesar de los obstáculos, entenderá el verdadero valor va más allá de tener un trabajo super remunerado?
Opinión personal
Esta película me resulta sumamente carismática y que, aún con el paso del tiempo, tiene ese toque que divierte en todo momento y, lo mejor de todo es que, sabe exactamente lo que es: una comedia familiar diseñada para hacer reír y conmover. A pesar de que recurre a algunos clichés del humor físico (chistes de pañales, golpes, desorden), tiene un ritmo tan ágil que nunca se siente aburrida; es un "lugar seguro" cinematográfico que envejeció bastante bien.
Ahora bien, esta película usa la misma fórmula del viaje del héroe, que cae en desgracia (pierde su empleo corporativo) para encontrar su verdadero propósito en el lugar menos pensado (una guardería improvisada), no obstante, todo está muy bien equilibrado, pues vemos ese contraste entre ser empleado de una compañía, al ser libre y hogareño cuidador de niños, que busca entender lo que necesitan y no dejarse llevar por cosas rígidas, como la tenía la prestigiosa guardería enemiga, el comprendió que tiene que escuchar a esos seres pequeños y saber que necesitan, porque tienen que disfrutar estar en un lugar que no es su hogar. También siento que juega muy bien con el ritmo, la transición de "estos hombres no tienen idea de qué hacer" a "están conectando genuinamente con los niños" no se siente forzada. El guion se toma el tiempo de mostrar que el éxito de la guardería no llega por arte de magia, sino por pura empatía y paciencia.
En cuanto a los actores y sus interpretaciones, primero hablemos de Eddie Murphy, del cual se está acostumbrado ver este tipo de papeles, pero como más contenida, tierna y paternal que en sus comedias de los 80 o 90, pero sin perder su brillante expresividad facial y su timing cómico, en cuanto al resto de los actores que lo acompañan en este viaje de ser niñeros, Jeff Garlin es el contrapeso perfecto para Murphy, aporta un humor más físico y relajado; representa al hombre común atrapado en una situación ridícula y con Steve Zahn su personaje, un nerd fanático de la ciencia ficción que vive con su madre, es el que realmente logra conectar con el lenguaje de los niños. Zahn se roba casi todas las escenas en las que sale con su carisma inocente.
Puntos positivos…
- La química del trío protagonista: Realmente estos 3 logran un carisma fantástico, sus personajes se complementan muy bien y supieron jugar a la perfección con sus interpretaciones.
- Un Eddie Murphy entrañable: Aquí muestra una faceta mucho más tierna, paternal y humana que equilibra muy bien la comedia con el corazón.
- Crítica acertada a la presión infantil: Un gran acierto es cómo expone y satiriza a las escuelas que intentan sobreexigir a niños de 4 o 5 años para que actúen como "mini ejecutivos", defendiendo la idea de que los niños simplemente necesitan jugar y ser niños.
- El carisma del elenco infantil: Los niños no se sienten acartonados ni sobreactuados. Tienen personalidades muy marcadas y divertidas (desde el niño que habla en lenguajes extraños hasta el que se cree superhéroe) que se roban el show.
Puntos negativos…
- Abuso del humor escatológico y físico: La película cae demasiado seguido en los clichés típicos de las comedias de los 2000: chistes de gases, pañales sucios, niños vomitando o golpes accidentales en la entrepierna. Para algunos adultos, este humor puede sentirse un poco infantil o repetitivo.
- Villanos un tanto caricaturescos: Aunque Anjelica Huston actúa increíble, su personaje y el del inspector de la guardería son casi villanos de caricatura de los domingos por la mañana. Carecen de matices y son malos "porque sí".
- SPOILER - Resolución un poco idílica: El giro final donde los problemas financieros y de espacio se resuelven de manera tan perfecta y rápida puede sentirse un poco irreal o demasiado azucarado, incluso para los estándares de una comedia familiar.

Daddy Day Care es una excelente comedia dominguera y donde nos deja como enseñanza que la paternidad es estar involucrado en la vida de tu hijo constantemente, la película normaliza y dignifica la figura del padre involucrado, afectuoso y presente, demostrando que los hombres son igual de capaces de criar con ternura. Es un clásico de la nostalgia que cumple perfectamente su objetivo principal: hacerte sonreír y pasar un rato divertido.

Siempre m han gustado las películas de Murphy y esta es una de las más graciosas que tiene.
Esta película es un vacilón, es cierto que tiene mucho humor físico pero es lo que se acostumbraba en comedias de los 2000, en especial en las películas de Adam Sandler y Eddie Murphy (aunque sé que Adam no formó parte de este film) pero era algo recurrente de esos tiempos, un "humor fácil" por llamarlo de alguna manera, de hecho era la formula infalible de Scary Movie.
Pero en términos generales fue una buena comedia y me enamoré completamente del niño que interpreta al hijo de Eddie 🤗 es una cosita tierna.

Esta película ha formado parte de mi infancia y preadolescencia, es de mis favoritas, aunque no la considero una delas mejores de toda la filmografía de Eddie Murphy. Tiene muchos momentos buenos y su estilo de humor es de mis favoritos, con todo y los golpes que dices. xD
La historia que nos cuenta también es muy buena.

I recently saw a tribute to Eddie Murphy, a lifetime achievement award or something like that, and realized that there are quite a few Eddie movies that I have never seen. This is one of them.
