Project Hail Mary – Cuando la desesperación se encuentra con la enseñanza

Hola amigos, gusto en saludarles, tenía un tiempo sin escribir por acá, pero quería compartirles sobre una película que acabo de ver, se llama Project Hail Mary, una película sobre el fin del mundo y espacio, donde aprendí que el conocimiento siempre será nuestra mejor arma, pero además, también aprendi que cuando el gobierno de algún país lo necesita para garantizar su existencia sin lugar a dudas lo utiliza sin ningun remordimiento.

En esta oportunidad la ciencia ficción nos lleva aviajar por el espacio y nos da una leeción de humildad y del sacrificio humano en salvar a otros. La trama nos sumerge en una misión de último recurso donde el protagonista, Ryland Grace, despierta en una nave sin recordar quién es ni cómo llegó allí. Para ponerlos en contexto, Grace es un maestro de ciencias de primaria, pero con muchos conocimientos sobre ciencia y el espacio a través de sus multiples estudios. En la historía, la vida tal como la conocemos.

El descubrimiento es devastador: el sol está siendo consumido por un microorganismo espacial y la supervivencia de la Tierra esta a punto de acabarse. Lo que hace que esta obra destaque no es solo la ciencia detrás de la solución, sino la cruda política que la respalda. La película expone sin filtros cómo los gobiernos, al verse acorralados, abandonan toda ética para priorizar el éxito del objetivo. Grace, un profesor de ciencias, es forzado— a sacrificar su vida y su voluntad en una misión suicida por un sistema que, en la práctica, lo utiliza como una pieza de recambio.

From it, I learned that knowledge will always be our best weapon, but I also learned that when a country’s government needs it to ensure its survival, it will undoubtedly use it without any qualms.
This time, science fiction takes us on a journey through space and teaches us a lesson in humility and human sacrifice in saving others. The plot plunges us into a last-ditch mission where the protagonist, Ryland Grace, wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Es aquí donde reside la profundidad del relato: la tensión entre el individuo y el colectivo. Ver a un hombre común, con sus miedos y dudas, convertido en la única esperanza del planeta nos obliga a cuestionar el costo de nuestro progreso. ¿Cuántos "Ryland Grace" han sido sacrificados en la historia bajo la premisa de un bien mayor y nadie llega a entererase?
Sin embargo, el alma de la película florece en el espacio. El giro más fascinante ocurre cuando la soledad de Grace se ve interrumpida por un encuentro que desafía toda lógica terrestre.

La relación que construye con su compañero alienígena no solo es el corazón emocional de la historia, sino un testimonio de que la comunicación y el aprendizaje son lenguajes universales. No se como lo lograron si la historia fuese cierta jajaja, de comunicarse con otros seres y que lo que piense uno sea lo que realmente entienda el otro, ver a un docente, un hombre cuya verdadera vocación es explicar cómo funciona el mundo, trasladar su pasión pedagógica a un ser de otro sistema solar es un cierre brillante. Grace termina salvando el mundo, sí, pero no lo hace como un soldado frío, sino como un maestro que, incluso al borde del universo, encuentra sentido al continuar educando, transformando su enseñanza a seres de otro planeta.
Al finalizar, Project Hail Mary deja un poso de credibilidad que pocas películas logran. Sus cimientos científicos se entrelazan con una psicología humana muy reconocible. Nos recuerda que, a pesar de la insensibilidad de las burocracias y la crueldad de las decisiones políticas, la curiosidad y la capacidad de enseñar siguen siendo nuestras herramientas más poderosas. Es una obra que no solo nos hace mirar las estrellas con asombro, sino que nos invita a valorar a aquellos que, desde un aula o desde una nave espacial, nos enseñan que siempre hay una posibilidad de empezar de nuevo, incluso con alguien que viene de otro mundo.

However, the soul of the film truly comes alive in space. The most fascinating twist occurs when Grace’s solitude is interrupted by an encounter that defies all earthly logic.

The relationship he builds with his alien companion is not only the emotional heart of the story, but a testament to the fact that communication and learning are universal languages. I don’t know how they pulled it off if the story were true, hahaha—communicating with other beings so that what one thinks is what the other truly understands. Seeing a teacher, a man whose true calling is to explain how the world works, convey his passion for teaching to a being from another solar system is a brilliant conclusion. Grace ends up saving the world, yes, but she doesn’t do it as a cold-hearted soldier, but as a teacher who, even at the edge of the universe, finds meaning by continuing to educate, adapting her teaching to beings from another planet.

In the end, Project Hail Mary leaves a sense of credibility that few films achieve. Its scientific foundations are intertwined with a very recognizable human psychology. It reminds us that, despite the insensitivity of bureaucracies and the cruelty of political decisions, curiosity and the ability to teach remain our most powerful tools. It is a work that not only makes us gaze at the stars in wonder, but also invites us to value those who, whether from a classroom or a spaceship, teach us that there is always a chance to start over—even with someone from another world.
