¿Cómo escapar cuando ya estás muerto? Terror Psicológico / How to escape when you are already dead? Psychological Horror

First I can't say no to a movie with Liam Neeson and that's because with him starring in the movie After Life it can only be Excellent, and I personally liked this one although I must admit it's not perfect.

This movie that depending on the platform you can also get it with the name After Death, was released in 2009 is of psychological horror and suspense, I saw it at the time and is one of my favorite, leaving me that experience of not knowing exactly what I saw.

I confess that I saw it again and to take more into account those little pearls that its director Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo gives us, to understand the characters and the plot, and over time I have learned to appreciate this ambivalence of the interpretation of what really happened in the film, because I think that in this case has been well worked and is almost a gift or experience for the public, and eye that the use of this resource can go very wrong, but in this case it went very well.

Now it's time to give us its trailer: Anna is a teacher who is very discouraged with her life and her relationship, one night after having an argument with her boyfriend Paul she drives off in his car and has an accident. Later she wakes up but is motionless on a funeral stretcher and about to be prepared by Eliot who is the owner of it and apparently he can communicate with the dead and helps them understand as they are always confused.

Already here all the questions begin:

Is Anna really dead and confused? Or is she kidnapped and under the effects of drugs supplied by Eliot?

Entiendo que este tipo de película que no es del todo clara, suele no gustarle a todo el mundo. Recuerdo en mi caso la película La Caja, que no la entendí, no me gustó, no la quise analizar, fue un rotundo no para mí. Sin embargo, Después de la Vida si me gustó porque en medio de la confusión, si tratas de entender cual de las dos opciones es la verdad de la película ¿Está muerta o Secuestrada? y cada intervención de Eliot nos aclara una de las versiones, solo para luego volver a confundirnos, pero en medio de todo eso hay una reflexión con respecto a la Vida, a si estamos vivos o si nuestra intención de vivir con apatía, sin propósito, sin emoción nos hace estar ya muertos en vida.

Siempre me gusta quedarme con alguna frase o reflexión de las películas que veo y me gustan, en Después de la Vida hay varias, pero me quedo con esta:

Todos dicen que les da miedo la muerte, pero le temen más a la vida

I understand that this type of film, which is not entirely clear, tends not to please everyone. I remember in my case the movie The Box, I didn't understand it, I didn't like it, I didn't want to analyze it, it was a resounding no for me. However, After Life I did like it because in the middle of the confusion, if you try to understand which of the two options is the truth of the film Is she dead or kidnapped? and each intervention of Eliot clarifies one of the versions, only to later confuse us again, but in the middle of all that there is a reflection regarding Life, if we are alive or if our intention to live with apathy, without purpose, without emotion makes us already dead in life.

I always like to keep some phrase or reflection from the movies I see and like, in After Life there are several, but I'll keep this one:

Everyone says they're afraid of death, but they're more afraid of life.

If Eliot really can talk to the dead and help them come to terms with it, then it brings up important reflections on what are we really doing with our lives? If we die right now, can we say that we really live, that we love, that we laugh enough, or are we instead wasting the air we breathe?

This introspection that your director gives us is the one I liked, the one I'm sticking with. The one that made me shudder a bit to myself regarding my purpose in life or if I am happy, setting aside my role as a mom which of course does make me enormously happy and gives me the main purpose in my life, but setting that aside, do we really take advantage of the gift of life?

Now if Eliot is really a really disturbed kidnapper, who drugs his victims and makes them look like they are dead, well this is a great premise for a psychological horror film.

The critics didn't treat this movie very well, there are mixed opinions since as I mentioned it's not perfect. But the critics opinion is not the most important thing for me, I have seen how it praises in many cases movies that I find boring and tedious. I think I consider more his workmanship in terms of certain actors, and Liam Neeson is one of those that where I see him I have liked him a lot, I think he chooses roles carefully and I value that more than the critics.

I recommend After Life is a movie that will make you ask yourself some existential questions, it has psychological horror and suspense, Liam Neeson's performance is superb as always, and it only lasts 1 hour 37 minutes in which you will have a lot of theme, and you will not get bored.

Enjoy it and you can have an opinion about what really happens at the end of the movie, and it will certainly be a topic of conversation with family and friends, both for the reflections that you will achieve and if you talk about all the important facts for both theories.
