Mary Poppins, the popular 1964 film, has gotten a rating update 60 years after its original release due to "Discriminatory language". Going from U (Universal) to PG (Parental guidance suggested).

The reason for the change is stated:
"It was changed because of a derogatory term for the Khoikhoi, a group of people who were among the first inhabitants of southern Africa"

This change is not the first time the beloved children's classic has come under fire from sensitive audiences. The original book by P.L. Travers, released in 1934, was revised in 1967, and again in 1981 due to a chapter that involved Mary Poppins and the Children visiting different people around the world.

The chapter was deemed by some readers to contain "offensive depictions" of these different people and cultures, so the illustrator, Mary Shepherd, who drew the original pictures in 1934, 47 years prior to the 1981 revision, was told to replace her 'offensive' drawings with pictures of animals. In 1981 the revised version was on the shelves, where it sits to this day.

But all the references to the original work have not been removed. For instance, the 1951 children's book: 'The Magic Compass: A Mary Poppins Story', still features an Inuit instead of the polar bear he was replaced with in the original story.
