"Everybody loves Jenifa" the masterpiece.
"Everybody loves Jenifa" was produced in 2024 and started showing in cinemas nationwide. Then I told my friends about the movie and the cast that were featured. I told myself it's either now or never, but then I got the most discouraging statement from my best friend, and that statement shifted something inside of me.
And the statement was "do you know, instead of seeing this movie in the cinema, we can actually wait for it to be released on other downloading platforms, then we can take our time to watch the movie without flaws." Now, where is the flaw coming from? I asked curiously because that isn't a complete statement if asked.
But then I think I find the idea quite interesting, started my waiting journey. But it feels like the movie was not eager to be released on other platforms now. I waited for a month, and still nothing. For two months still nothing. So I made up my mind not to focus on the months that have flown by, but rather I should focus my attention on exploring other movies.
So I took my mind off it and just last week, I noticed this bright smile on my face the moment I saw this movie on my favorite platform. I didn't wait for a second; rather, I just hit that download button, and before you know it, I'm done. One bad thing I didn't tell my friends about the movie being out till I finished seeing it, so I can be a spoiler.
"Everybody Loves Jenifa" is a Funke Akindele movie. I mean, who doesn't love Funke Akindele? Who doesn't love that genius who always brings a smile to our faces with her mind-blowing productions? The movie started with Jenifa rescuing a child from a burning house, and earning widespread praise from the community she lives in.
Jenifa's boyfriend, "Shege," loves and admires her so much, not caring about the way she talks. Even in the midst of being loved dearly, Jenifa shifts her attention to focus on her philanthropic foundation, which equips people with vocational skills through partnership with prominent trainers, featuring our celebrities.
Jenifa's life takes another turn when a new neighbor, "Lobster," moves into the estate, who is sophisticated and well-connected. Lobster gains the attention of people through his connections and overshadows Jenifa. As time went on, Jenifa started noticing some violent behavior toward Lobster.
To clear her curiosity, she witnessed when Lobster hit his wife, resulting in her landing in the hospital. Jenifa decides she wasn't gonna let Lobster walk freely after domestically abusing his wife and landing her in the hospital. Jenifa faced a lot of challenges and threats as she tried to fight for what was right.
My Review
Firstly, the crew and the cast did an amazing job. Now I'm proud of my nation's movie industry as they keep on improving and bringing excitement to our screens without leaving any scratch.
In general, the movie was a great watch. I got glued to my screen all through, and often I would find myself laughing hard like my life depended on it. I mean it's a Funke Akindele movie, so you expect all the excitement.
I love the storyline and how every character did their thing, but then no movie is perfect, right? "Yeah, no movie is perfect." Since this movie was incredibly plotted, I still felt some things were missing. I was thinking that Toyosi's character was a victim of character assassination because there is barely any resolution to that subplot, either; I didn't see it coming. Like she just disappeared from the movie. Maybe she will reappear soon though.
I'm gonna rate this movie a 7/10, and to the Nollywood industry, I'm really proud of how it keeps improving every day. Images are screenshots from my phone.
