TV Serie - The 8 Show (Netflix)
Time and money? These are the two themes addressed in this K-drama. I didn't really expect anything from this series. I actually started watching it because the poster seemed so appealing. Being a Netflix product, I related it to the global hits Squid Game or the Japanese hit "Alice in Borderland" because of the aesthetics they maintain here, or even the fact that it's like being trapped in a place where there seems to be no way out.
¿Tiempo y dinero? Son los dos temas que tratan en este K-Drama. Realmente no esperaba nada de esta serie, realmente, lo empecé a ver porque me pareció muy atractiva por su póster, realmente, al ser un producto de Netflix, yo lo relacione con los éxitos mundiales de Squid Game o el éxito japonés “Alice in Borderland” por la estética que mantienen acá, o en sí, por el hecho de estar encerrado en un sitio donde no pareciera tener salida.
On the other hand, I'm a big fan of escape room movies, and this one has a bit of that theme, but the difference is that there are no levels to progress through, nor are there "programmed" games for the participants; instead, you have to figure out what to do. They also have rules that I thought were wonderful, especially the rule that NO ONE can die, otherwise the game is suspended and the prize is forfeited.
Por otro lado, soy muy fanática de las películas de Escape Room, y este tiene un poco de este tema, pero la diferencia es que aquí no pasan niveles ni tiene juegos “programados” para los participantes, sino que tienes que descubrir lo que debes hacer. Al igual que tienen reglas que me parecieron maravillosas, en especial la regla de que NADIE puede morir, sino el juego se suspende y se cancela el premio.
The 8 Show follows 8 contestants who are in a small building where there are 8 floors, each floor belongs to a contestant, and then we discover that each floor has more privileges than the previous one, being the strong point of the plot, because this gives a different status to the players and you can imagine what happens when this is discovered.
The 8 Show sigue a 8 participantes que se encuentran en un pequeño edificio en donde hay 8 pisos, cada piso le pertenece a un participante, y luego descubrimos que cada piso tiene más privilegios que el anterior, siendo el punto fuerte de la trama, porque esto le da un estatus distinto a los jugadores y pueden imaginar que pasa cuando esto se descubre.
Free will is present at the beginning of this series; no one is forced to play, although they are selected due to their financial difficulties. The rules of the game are interesting in themselves, as no risks are perceived. Those behind the mysterious game are aware that time is money. If you don't accept the game's deal, you can walk away with a small reward for the time spent reading the rules and conditions (time is money).
El libre albedrío está presente al principio de esta serie, nadie es obligado a jugar, aunque son seleccionados por sus deficiencias económicas, y en sí las reglas del juego son interesantes, ya que no se presienten riesgos algunos hacia ellos. Los que están detrás del misterioso juego tienen presente que el tiempo es oro, si no aceptas el trato del juego, te puedes ir con una pequeña recompensa por el tiempo dedicado al estar presente en el momento de leer las reglas y condiciones (el tiempo es dinero).
It's rare when I don't have a favorite in a series or film, because it's common to feel some attraction to a character, either because of their story or their development during the production. But when I say I don't have a favorite, it's because I generally liked all of them, since the participants had no connection whatsoever; they were random people who accepted each other and didn't complement each other. Getting to know them separately makes the story exquisite and compelling.
Es raro cuando yo no tengo un favorito en una serie o película, porque es común sentir atracción alguna por algún personaje, ya sea por su historia o su desarrollo en la producción. Pero cuando digo que no tengo un favorito, es porque todos en general me gustaron, ya que los participantes no tuvieron conexión alguna, fueron personas al azar que aceptaron y no se completaban entre ellos y conocerlos por separados hace que la historia sea exquisita y atractiva.
This Webtoon-inspired series, packed with suspense and drama, features one of the best plots I've seen in a series of its kind. I insist, its rules limit the characters to so many things, and that makes it fun when it comes to discovering what's behind this shady "game" disguised as easy money. I'd like to continue with my review, but I want to avoid spoilers, since the series hasn't been out that long, and you may not have seen it yet. Esta serie inspirada en un Weebtoon, cargado de suspenso y drama, trae consigo una de las mejores tramas que he visto en una serie de este tipo, e insisto, sus reglas limitan a los personajes a tantas cosas y eso lo hace divertido y al momento de descubrir lo que está detrás de este turbio “juego” vestido de dinero fácil. Quisiera continuar con mi reseña, pero quiero evitar espóiler, ya que la serie no tiene tanto tiempo desde que se estrenó y quizás tú no la hayas visto. I’ve actually seen The 8 Show, and your review really captures its essence! The way the rules shape the tension and how each character stands out was brilliant. I also loved the unique concept of time literally being money. Great insight!
