A Slow Burn That Hits Hard: My Review of "Bring Her Back"
Bring Her Back
Hello cinema fans, welcome to my blog. Today I will be reviewing a horror movie called "Bring Her Back". Before watching this movie, you should know it's Rated R, as there is a lot of violent bloodshed, graphic nudity, and underage drinking, so it's not suitable for kids because of disturbing scenes.
Anyway, I have really loved horror movies since my childhood, and I have watched tons of them even though I’m the one who gets scared the most! I have hardly found any friends who like to watch horror movies, so I used to force them to watch with me because I get scared if I watch alone. I even used to check under my bed to see if someone was there, these are the side effects of me watching horror movies.
My dad had restrictions for me not to watch these movies, but I would secretly watch them with my uncles. So, you can say I’m a horror movie lover.
Anyway, "Bring Her Back" was released on May 29, 2025, and has received many positive reviews, which means it’s successful.
Spoilers Ahead!
Plot
The movie story begins with two step-siblings, a 17 year old Andy and his younger step sister Piper who is visually impaired. One day, their father was found dead in the shower. Later they were not allowed to live alone by their own. Also, Andy can not take Pipers responsibility until he turns 18. So, they were sent to a fosters home. When they reach at the fosters house they met the lady her name is Laura. There was another kid who's name is Oliver and he was a mute. Most of the time she was neglecting Andy and favouring Piper. Which made Andy a bit uncomfortable. In the beginning Andy found Laura as a weird person but after some time she became a nice person to both Piper and Andy.
Laura also disclosed that she had a daughter Cathy who was blind, and one day she died by falling into the pool. After some time when Laura learns that Andy will take Pipers custody when he turns 18 then she starts to behave weird again. She tells Andy that he is unfit to take her sisters responsibility. Also, Oliver was seen doing some disturbing things and behaving weird. Meanwhile, we see Laura doing creepy things when Andy and Piper is asleep. It was revealed that Laura was performing dark rituals, she wanted to bring back her dead daughter Cathy by using Andy and Piper.
Trailer & Review
When I watched the trailer, I was already in shock because the clips were too scary. It gave us a little glimpse of the movie but so much all at the same time. I have actually seen hundreds of horror movies, so nothing scares me anymore but still, this movie had me. Watch the trailer and it will give you chills in just a few seconds. I never found myself bored while watching this movie because it's that great.
Sally Hawkins is a phenomenal actress. I have seen her in multiple movies and she has always been amazing. Her choice of movies surprises me a lot because she always portrays herself differently. I think Bring Her Back is one of the best movies she has ever done. Her character in this movie felt so real that I ended up hating her. I have never hated any actress before, but her acting felt so real that I didn’t realize it at all. I believe her performance stood out the most.
Moreover, the others such as Billy Barratt (Andy), Sora Wong (Piper), and Jonah Wren Phillips (Oliver) did an excellent job. Even though they are young, their acting skills are like professionals’. I had never seen them before, and it was my first time seeing their work, so I was impressed by them especially by the character of Oliver. He clearly haunts me.
Anyway, my favorite character was Andy because he really cared for his sister, even though she was his stepsister. The bond between the siblings touched my soul, and I could also feel their pure connection. Not for a moment did I feel like they were acting.
To be honest, the great acting of each character kept me locked into the plot, and I patiently waited to see what would happen next. There were no unnecessary jump scares or loud noises. Most of the time, my skin crawled because of the disturbing scenarios. Sometimes I wasn’t scared, but instead felt disgusted. There is such impressive depth to this film that it cannot be explained with words. It was a whole different kind of horror movie than what I have seen so far, and it seriously deserves respect.
Well, people need to ignore the negative reviews and watch it for themselves. I think most people have misunderstood what this movie was trying to do, because this movie was more sad than scary. It includes trauma, obsession, and grief. If you try to find logic in movies, then you will never enjoy them. There’s not much supernatural stuff, but there’s nothing lacking either. Every horror movie has its own specialty. In my honest opinion I would say that this is one the best horror movie. I would highly recommend this movie to horror fans.

Thanks for reading 🌷

After watching Talk to Me, another horror movie, I added this to my To Be Watched List. I'm glad I came across this your review. Gives me more reason to go download it.
Have you watched Talk To Me? I enjoyed the freshness of that one too. I'm glad this one offers a fresh perspective on horror as a genre. Thanks for sharing.

I liked this film more for the actors' performances than for the plot. It was good, but it could have been better, especially in the story's development. Great review, I enjoyed reading it! Cheers!
That's true as well, thanks for stopping by. 🌷
