May the 4th Be With You!
You'll find I'm full of surprises... just not today. Of course I need to do a Star Wars post on the holiest of holy days!
With Andor being in the middle of a season, I'm getting very antsy to write about the live action shows on Disney+. To help quench that thirst (for blue milk) I figured I'd take a look at and rank the entire catalogue of the live action Star Wars shows.
#7 Skeleton Crew
It is actually not fair to even have this one on the list. I am not the target demographic for this show so it honestly doesn't matter what I think. This show is made for kids who were may age when the original trilogy was released (ages 7 - 10). It is basically The Goonies set in the Star Wars universe. I think I am too old to generate the suspension of disbelief that was needed to enjoy this show. I certainly didn't hate it, but I looked at my phone quite a bit while watching it.
#6 The Book of Boba Fett
Unlike Skeleton Crew, I think I was the exact target demographic for this show... or at least I should have been. The back story of Boba Fett surviving after escaping from the Sarlacc was awesome! The rest of the show was just OK. The idea of Boba Fett as a crime lord was such a good one but Disney simply wouldn't commit to Boba Fett being an anti-hero. They tried to make him a regular hero and that is not what I tuned in for. Some of the battles seemed like 2 guys got together and said "Let's pretend we are playing with our Kenner action figures and vehicles back in 1980. Let's just put random guys in ships. Let's even put baby Yoda in one!"
#5 The Acolyte
I actually liked this show quite a bit. It was a clever story with some decent action. It also featured Jodie Turner-Smith who is one of my favorite actresses. It did have some problems though so I see why it is not getting a second season.
#4 Ashoka
I'm not going to lie. I am completely biased on this one. Since he was 3, my son's favorite show has been "The Clone Wars". As a result I have seen every episode multiple times and Ahsoka has grown to be one of my favorite characters of all time. Her arc in the 2020 return season is one of the coolest things in any universe. So getting to see her portrayed by Rosario Dawson was incredible. Add the live action versions of some of my favorite characters from Rebels and it would have been impossible for me not to enjoy this show. Oh. And then there were the cameos. But I'm not going to spoil those!
**#3 Obi Wan Kenobi **
Darth Vader fights Obi Wan Kenobi. There I'm done. That is all that needs to be said. Well here's one more thing, Vader is a freaking badass in this show! Damn it. I can't stop. Hayden Christensen reprises his role as Anakin felt so right.
#2 The Mandalorean
I'm sure this is #1 on many people's lists and I can't blame them. For pure Star Wars fun, this one wins the medal (that Chewy still hasn't received). Great characters. Awesome action. IG-88 as a nanny. What more could you want? And I love the use of practical effects. It is such a refreshing idea in a time where everything is just spit out of a computer. Yoda was a puppet (I don't acknowledge him in the prequels) it is only right that Grogu (baby Yoda) is one as well. The fact that they worked in so many funny lines and meme worthy images just shows how much Dave Filoni and John Favreau get it.
#1 Andor Season 1
This is not a great Star Wars show. It is a great show that happens to take place in the Star Wars universe. You could literally put this story into any war and it will work. At its core it is simply a story about resistance fighters trying to stop evil. you could throw away the blasters and star ships and replace them with rifles and motorcycles used by french or Jewish resistance fighters and you have a compelling WWII show. Add in incredible acting and writing and you have a slow burn that feels better than ripping the arms off a gundark.
Here's the interactive part. What order would you rank these?
I'm actually about half way through Skeleton Crew right now. It hasn't been that horrible. It's probably not my favorite, but I understand it was definitely written for a different demographic. I actually find it a bit more engaging than shows like Outer Banks that were written for an older audience!
It honestly wasn't bad. I get what it was trying to do and I appreciate it. I just liked the other shows more. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season! May the 4th be with you.
And also with you. 😃

Good 😎👍
I've watched them all and the Mandalorian might just edge it over Andor for being more fun. I'd be similar on the others.
I've not seen all the animated shows, but I did quite enjoy The Bad Batch. That got quite dark at times. I don't know if I'll ever find time to watch all the others. I wonder how many hours all the shows add up to.
About 168 hours. I'm starting now! Bad Batch was sensational. I watch all of the Clone Wars and Rebels. Both of them were really good. I'd say the animated shows may even be better than the live action ones.
