[Movie] My take on the Cuckoo's curse a different horror movie (ENG/ESP)

I’m a fan of horror and thriller movies, though I enjoy lighter genres too; yesterday, this Spanish horror film popped up in my Amazon Prime recommendations, so I decided to give it a chance. Honestly, I didn't regret it—it might not be a masterpiece of the genre, but it’s quite different from the usual horror fare, and I really enjoyed it. The film opens with a couple, Marc and Ana; she is pregnant and struggling to juggle all her responsibilities—work (she’s a gynecologist), the household, bills, and the baby on the way. Her husband isn't a bad person, but he is very immature and more interested in video games than anything else. Hoping to improve their relationship, they decide to book a unique vacation involving a home swap. They find a delightful elderly couple online who seem like the perfect match, with a beautiful, luxurious home in the Black Forest. They decide to go ahead with the exchange, hoping the older couple won't judge their own small, somewhat cluttered house too harshly.

Sinceramente, no me arrepentí: puede que no sea una obra maestra del género, pero se aleja bastante de las propuestas habituales de terror y realmente la disfruté. La película comienza presentándonos a una pareja, Marc y Ana; ella está embarazada y lucha por compaginar todas sus responsabilidades: el trabajo (es ginecóloga), las tareas del hogar, las facturas y la llegada del bebé. Su marido no es mala persona, pero es muy inmaduro y se interesa más por los videojuegos que por cualquier otra cosa. Con la esperanza de mejorar su relación, deciden organizar unas vacaciones singulares que consisten en un intercambio de casas. Encuentran en internet a una encantadora pareja de ancianos que parece la opción ideal, ya que poseen una casa hermosa y lujosa en la Selva Negra. Deciden seguir adelante con el intercambio, esperando que la pareja mayor no juzgue con demasiada severidad su propia casa, que es pequeña y está algo desordenada.

The couple meets the elderly hosts, who lay down a few rules for the house swap; the vacation begins like a dream—complete with a sports car, an ultra-luxurious modern home, every amenity, and a stunning view of the countryside. Meanwhile, however—and unbeknownst to the couple—the elderly hosts appear to be wreaking havoc on their home and initiating a dark ritual involving their personal belongings. Life during the getaway begins to shift; Ana notices strange changes in her husband—he seems like a different person, especially as some of his secrets come to light. Marc is acting oddly—polite, well-mannered, and tidy; he has even changed the way he dresses and speaks. The setting itself is strange, and the elderly couple’s adopted daughter, who occasionally drops by, is unsettling. The vacation takes a dark turn; Ana begins to fear for her life and that of her child, feeling like a prisoner in that bizarre house and town—but by then, it is too late to turn back... A truly interesting film for the genre—it starts one way but develops in completely unexpected directions! If you’re looking for a horror movie that breaks the mold of the usual classics, I highly recommend it!

La pareja conoce a los anfitriones —una pareja de ancianos—, quienes establecen ciertas reglas para el intercambio de casas; las vacaciones comienzan como un sueño, con un coche deportivo, una casa moderna y ultralujosa, todo tipo de comodidades y unas vistas impresionantes del campo. Sin embargo, mientras tanto —y sin que la pareja lo sepa—, los ancianos parecen estar causando estragos en su hogar e iniciando un oscuro ritual con sus pertenencias personales. La dinámica de la escapada empieza a cambiar; Ana nota alteraciones extrañas en su marido: parece otra persona, sobre todo a medida que salen a la luz algunos de sus secretos. Marc se comporta de forma inusual: se muestra educado, correcto y ordenado; incluso ha cambiado su manera de vestir y de hablar. El entorno resulta extraño y la hija adoptiva de los ancianos, que aparece ocasionalmente, transmite una sensación inquietante. Las vacaciones dan un giro siniestro; Ana empieza a temer por su vida y la de su hijo, sintiéndose prisionera en aquella casa y aquel pueblo tan peculiares... pero para entonces, ya es demasiado tarde para dar marcha atrás. Es una película realmente interesante dentro del género: empieza de una forma, pero evoluciona en direcciones totalmente inesperadas. Si buscas una película de terror que rompa con los moldes de los clásicos habituales, ¡te la recomiendo encarecidamente!
