Hi everyone, I’m back on my blog after a few days. Today I want to contribute to the movie reviews section, which has become quite popular on Hive. I was chatting with my friend @cositav, who kindly explained the whole process to me.

Anyway, what brought me here is my desire to share my opinion on the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. As far as I can tell, it was released in 1980, and I stumbled upon it by chance one afternoon while watching TV when I was just a kid. It caught my attention right from the start, and, being a kid, I didn’t have high expectations for what the plot might hold. Later, I watched it again as a teenager, and I think it was from that point on that I was able to form my own opinion about what this ’80s film had to offer.

Hola a todos, de vuelta en mi blog luego de unos cuantos días. Hoy quiero dar mi aporte en el renglón de las reseñas de películas, que se ha vuelto bastante popular dentro de Hive. Estuve conversando con mi amiga @cositav quien amablemente me explicó todo el procedimiento.

Ahora sí, lo que me trajo aquí es querer dejar mi opinión sobre la película "Los dioses deben estar locos", según vi, fue creada en 1980 y que me la encontré por casualidad en una tarde cualquiera cuando veía televisión cuando apenas era un niño. Desde un principio me llamó la atención y, como un niño, no tenía grandes expectativas de lo que me podía encontrar en la trama. Luego la volví a ver de adolescente y creo que desde ese entonces fue que me pude crear una crítica personal de lo que nos presentó este film ochentero.

This film features a blend of genres ranging from a nature documentary to the humorous antics of its characters, sincere and innocent love, and an adventure fraught with great danger. I suppose they were trying to make a comedy, but as the story unfolded, it managed to offer glimpses of quite profound lessons and reflections on how our society has changed, setting aside the most basic things and perhaps forgetting our origins.

Dentro de esta película podemos encontrar una mezcla de géneros que va desde un documental naturista, las ocurrencias graciosas de sus personajes, el amor sincero e inocente y la aventura que lleva consigo un gran peligro. Supongo que intentaban realizar una película cómica, pero cuando la historia se fue desarrollando, fue capaz de dejar pinceladas de enseñanzas y reflexiones bastante profundas de cómo nuestra sociedad se ha transformado, dejando de lado las cosas mas básicas y quizás olvidando cuáles han sido nuestros orígenes.

I’m surprised that as early as the 1980s there was already significant criticism of the dehumanization of people and that, little by little, we’ve become robots. Against this backdrop, a fantastical story unfolds in which a member of one of Africa’s indigenous peoples tries to get rid of an object created by “civilized” man that accidentally ended up near his village; in the midst of all this, he encountered problems typical of civilization. This man, with no apparent education, helped them solve those problems, and only at the very end was he able to complete his task before disappearing once more over the horizon, heading back to his village in the dense Kalahari—one of the most remote places on the planet.

Me sorprende que ya en los años 80 ya había una gran crítica sobre la deshumanización de las personas y que poco a poco nos hemos convertido en robots. Con esa presentación como marco, se desarrolla una historia fantástica en donde un nativo de los pueblos originarios de África intenta deshacerse de un objeto creado por el hombre civilizado que por error llegó a los alrededores de su aldea, en medio de todo esto, se encontró con problemas propios de la civilización. Este hombre, sin ninguna educación aparente, los ayudó a resolver esos problemas y solo hasta lo último pudo terminar de realizar su tarea para volver a desaparecer en el horizonte rumbo a su aldea en el espeso Kalahari. Uno de los sitios más recónditos del planeta.

I identified completely with two of the characters—the young native boy and his family—because they live in a place far from the “comforts” of the city, yet with the little they have, they can be happy at any time of day, no matter the hour. I also identified with Andrew, a trained botanist with extensive knowledge of wildlife, who prefers to be out in the field and lives there while conducting his research.

Me identifiqué plenamente con dos de los personajes, el pequeño nativo y su familia, por vivir en un sitio alejado de las "comodidades" de la ciudad, pero que con lo poco que tienen pueden ser felices en todos los momentos del día sin importar la hora. También con Andrew, un botánico preparado y con amplios conocimientos de fauna, pero que prefiere estar en la práctica de campo y vive ahí dentro realizando sus estudios.

For me, this is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen—not because of the budget, the direction, or any of those things people usually criticize in movies. The contrast between how people live in cities and the few who can still remain untouched by industrialization is striking. Children can watch the movie, although there are some scenes of explicit violence that can be skipped, as well as some scenes that seem completely unfair and may cause sadness—but with an adult present, these challenges can be overcome.

Para mí, esta es una de las mejores películas que he visto, no por el presupuesto, por la dirección o por todas esas cosas que se critican en las películas. La comparación de cómo viven las personas en las ciudades y las pocas personas que aún pueden mantenerse al margen de la industrialización es impactante. La película la pueden ver los niños, aunque hay unas escenas de violencia explícita que se pueden evitar, también algunas escenas que parecen totalmente injustas y pueden causar tristeza, pero con la compañía de un adulto es algo que se puede superar.

I recommend watching it; I think it’s a movie that can really touch us as human beings. It’s fresh, cheerful, and has that touch of down-to-earth humor that makes you laugh without having to ask permission. It takes place almost entirely in natural settings, with plenty of wildlife and flora. It’s even more special when watched with the family; it evokes that sense of togetherness and emphasizes the importance that the family unit should have—an importance that modernization may be robbing us of.

Recomiendo verla, creo que es una película que puede tocarnos las fibras como seres humanos. Es fresca, alegre y con ese toque de humor básico en el que puedes reírte sin pedir permiso. Se desarrolla casi en su totalidad en parajes naturales, mucha fauna, flora. Es mas especial si se ve en familia, evoca a eso, a la unión, a darle esa relevancia que el grupo familiar debe tener y que quizás la modernización nos está robando.
