Frankenstein 2025 (En/ Es)

I must say that when I saw the title of this film, Frankenstein, I immediately imagined the legendary monster from the first film and assumed it was more of the same, the evil monster that got out of control of its creator and became uncontrollable, with the well-known ending. So I was reluctant to watch it at first, thinking that it would surely be more of the same.

But when I started looking at Netflix's recommendations, I stopped and thought: let's give it a chance. I decided to watch it and was pleasantly surprised, because as the scenes unfolded and I saw the approach taken, it immediately caught my interest. The way his creator was presented, from childhood to adulthood, made you understand why he acted the way he did in the future, how badly he handled his negative experiences, along with his emotions and feelings, and the obsession he developed for his goal, which was to give life after death.

Up to that point, we were fine, but when the creature was created, from its first interactions, it was clear that it was a pure being without malice, and that, like a child, it learned from its experiences, with the difference that from all the bad things that happened to it, this being took only the good, learned to be prudent, to listen and observe with the heart, and with this, it gained wisdom. Later, with the help of an old friend it met along the way, it began to see and experience new realities.

Among these was that men tend to be cruel, that they can even be worse than some animals. There was one scene that impressed me greatly, where the “monster” was in nature feeding a deer, moved by the beauty and docility of this animal, when a group of men interrupted this magical scene by shooting the animal in the head, ending the magic of the moment.

As the film progressed, everything intensified: Victor, the Creator's obsession with manipulating Frankenstein at will, treating him worse than a beast with extreme violence and abuse, as he saw him as just another possession, not as someone who felt and understood his actions. Despite not being truly conceived, but rather “made” from parts of other people, he had a more human nature than many humans.

This impacted me so much because even this being fell in love with a beautiful woman who saw his inner beauty and who, horrified, also perceived the selfish and evil nature of Victor, who had been carried away by resentment, ego, and pride. But what was the icing on the cake was the ending, when the creature narrated his own story from his point of view, from his feelings and emotions. For me, it was the best part of the film, because there we finally saw the essence of this being.

And seeing who he had really become was surprising, and how he had been filled with wisdom and prudence in the midst of his loneliness, due to his condition. Although at first he wanted to get his creator to make him a companion and then to take revenge, he finally understood that it was not worth it and that Victor was only worthy of pity. After listening to him, he was filled with empathy, accepting his request for forgiveness and forgiving him from the heart, understanding that he was a victim of himself.

This is my personal opinion. I hope you decide to watch it, because it's well worth sitting through those 149 minutes. Apart from leaving you with an important reflection on how we can lose ourselves if we don't know how to contain and manage our emotions and feelings, we can become worse than the monsters we have...

Debo decir que cuando vi el título de esta película, Frankenstein de una vez me imaginó al monstruo legendario de la primera película y supuse que era más de lo mismo, el monstruo malvado que se le salió de las manos a su creador y que se vuelve algo incontrolable con el conocido final. Así es que me resistía a verla en un inicio, pensando que seguramente sería más de lo mismo.

Pero cuando empecé a ver las recomendaciones de Netflix, me detuve y pensé: vamos a darle una oportunidad y me dispuse a verla y me lleve una grata sorpresa, porque a medida que fueron transcurriendo las escenas y al ver el enfoque que se le dio, de una vez atrajo mi interés, por la forma en que se presentó a su creador desde su niñez hasta que fue un adulto te da a entender el porqué, de su proceder en el futuro, de lo mal que manejo sus experiencias negativas, junto a sus emociones y sentimientos y la obsesión que llego a tener por su objetivo, que era dar vida después de la muerte.

Hasta ahí, estábamos bien, pero cuando fue creada la criatura, desde sus primeras interacciones se veía que era un ser puro sin malicia, y que al igual que a un niño fue aprendiendo de sus experiencias, con la diferencia de que de todo lo malo que le sucedía, este ser tomaba solo lo bueno, aprendió a ser prudente, a oír y observar con el corazón, con esto fue ganando sabiduría, posteriormente con la ayuda de un viejo amigo que se topó en el camino, fue viendo y experimentando nuevas realidades.

Y entre esas, que los hombres tienden a ser crueles, que incluso pueden llegar a ser peores que algunos animales. Hubo una escena que me impresiono sobre manera y fue donde el "monstruo" estaba en la naturaleza dándole de comer a un ciervo, enternecido por la belleza y la docilidad de este animal, cuando un grupo de hombres, interrumpió esa escena tan mágica dándole un tiro tan certero en la cabeza del animal, acabando con la magia del momento.

A medida que la película fue transcurriendo, todo se fue intensificando, la obsesión de Víctor, el Creador por querer manipular a Frankenstein a su antojo, pero tratándolo peor que a una bestia con extrema violencia y maltrato, pues lo veía como una cosa como una posesión más, no como alguien que sentía y entendía sus acciones, a pesar de no ser concebido realmente, sino "hecho" con partes de otras personas, tenía una naturaleza más humana que muchos humanos.

Esto me impactó tanto, porque incluso este ser, llegó a enamorarse de una bella mujer que sí supo ver su belleza interior y que horrorizada también percibía la naturaleza egoísta y malvada de Víctor, quien se había dejado llevar por el resentimiento, el ego y la soberbia. Pero lo que cerró con broche de oro fue el final, cuando la criatura narró su propia historia desde su punto de vista, desde sus sentimientos y emociones. Para mí fue la mejor parte de la película, porque allí terminamos de ver la esencia de este ser.

Y ver en quién se había convertido en realidad, fue sorprendente y cómo se había llenado de sabiduría, prudencia en medio de su soledad, por su condición y que aunque en un inicio quiso conseguir a su creador para que le creara una compañera y luego para vengarse, comprendió al final que no valía la pena y que Víctor solo era digno de lástima y luego al terminar de escucharlo, se llenó de empatía, aceptando su petición de perdón y perdonándolo de corazón entendiendo que el mismo fue víctima de sí mismo.

Esta es mi apreciación personal, espero que te animes a verla, pues muy bien, vale la pena instalarse esos 149 minutos a verla. Aparte de que te deja una importante reflexión cómo, podemos llegar a perdernos, si no sabemos contener y gestionar nuestras emociones y sentimientos, que podemos llegar a convertirnos peor que a lo que nosotros tenemos como monstruos...
