Monthly recurring topics

Hello everyone, I'm very sorry for the little delay with the Cine Kids post this week. I do have good reasons for it though, as because of real life stuff, my inspiration went down the drain for most of the week. Thankfully, a lot of work was (half) prepped ahead, leaving me with the Cine Kids edition only to write in the wrong state of mind. I tried, I really did, I have a few half drafts in my account thanks to this, I will save them for later purposes because I'm sure they will come in handy for later editions.

Today everything seems calm again and I was determined to publish this Cine Kids edition today and keep up the right work pace from this moment as I'm used to normally. Remember the previous Cine Kids Trip Down Memory Lane? This was published about a month ago and because of the requests I read in the comment section as well as our Discord server, I decided right there and then to make the "Trip down memory lane" a monthly recurring edition.

For weeks I've been looking at my content schedule and thinking about a topic for this week's edition. Until today without luck, but I needed to make a decision so I picked "DuckTales" for this month. If you suggested some other cartoons last month, don't worry, I have them listed and I'm sure at some point I will get to your suggestion as well. Feel free to leave your suggestions below this edition in the comment section as well, just know I won't promise a timeframe.

DuckTales

I often bump on some titles of cartoons lately that bring back some memories. Even though they seem to have been parked in the back of my memory, and therefore I can't actively remember what it was about exactly, I did recall enjoying watching DuckTales as a child. It was mentioned as one of the cartoons in a comment by a community member that made me remember watching Duck Tales as a child. Let's have a look into the history of DuckTales.

I found this video on Youtube Disney+ Throwbacks.. I could still sing along with the song, what about you? After all these years, the song was still stuck in my brain enough to be able to remember the words, haha. Quite funny how that works, isn't it?

DuckTales over the years

I admit that I had no clue how long Duck Tales existed, although I had the feeling it was not as old as some of the other Disney cartoons, I had to read up on this to find out more information. Apparently, DuckTales premiered on syndication and on Disney Channel on September 18, 1987 and ran for a total of 100 episodes over four seasons. The last episode of DuckTales aired on November 28, 1990. Now this is new info to me as I had no clue if DuckTales had new episodes for decades in a row like many other cartoons. I assumed this and I'm honestly a bit surprised that it's not the case. Why? Because I remember it being quite an exciting cartoon which was a good spin off from the original Disney Characters having their own shows. I loved how this came together in an adventurous cartoon such as DuckTales.

While digging deep in my memory, I do recall that this was indeed one of these cartoons where I saw episodes that I already knew over and over again, instead of new ones being introduced every year or so.

DuckTales characters

Remember Uncle Scrooge? A comic book created by Carl Barks, DuckTales follows Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, which we Dutch people know as "Oom Dagobert & Kwik, Kwek and Kwak" if we watched it on Dutch television. I didn't even recall the names used in the original versions until I read about them. They seems just as strange in English as in Dutch, though.

I remember Scrooge diving into his warehouses of coins over and over again and used to wonder how that would feel, it must hurt if these are coins instead of bank notes. But I admit, it looks bad ass having a warehouse filled with coins. Even though he's quite tight with his money and probably got rich by not sharing any fortune if not needed.

I remember the little nephews being quite cool characters and up for new adventures. Personally, this was one of these cartoons that I loved watching but was not on tv as much as some other cartoons when I was a child. Now I understand why this was the case, there were simply not that many episodes compared to other cartoons that were released around the same time.

DuckTales rebooted

While looking for information about DuckTales over the years, I discovered it was rebooted on Disney channel. It's not that weird that I didn't know this because we have had a Netflix subscription for about 6 years now, before we didn't have any, but we never had a sub to Disney channel in our home. Then it's easy to miss these things.

Apparently, the reboot dates from 2017 and has a total of 3 seasons and 69 episodes. Most were aired on Disney XD, while season 2 was to be seen on Disney Channel. Of course I also found a video so you can compare the differences between the original DuckTales and the reboot:

I have not watched the episodes of the reboot, so I can't say if it will grow on me when I watch it but from the first glance I can say that I like the original DuckTales drawing style much more. This first glance I saw is leaning exactly towards what I don't love about a lot of modern day cartoons, the aggressive drawing style. I'm quite curious to find out what your thoughts are about DuckTales, original and reboot as everyone has a different view on this of course.

Please let me know in the comments what your thoughts are, and if you have seen the reboot or not. Leave a comment below...

Next week I'm back with another edition of Cine Kids, this time it will be published on Friday, as per usual!

Have a great weekend! Make and sure to follow our Twitter account and join our discord channel.

I really liked Duck Tales as a kid! I can still remember the intro tune.
The Nintendo video game was good too!

avatar

Haha, yeah I had the same thing, could sing along the intro as well :)

I never played DuckTales Nintendo, but if it was a bit like the show, must have been cool indeed.

Thanks for stopping by!

YES! The Nintendo game was really fun! I remember bouncing on Scrooge's cane really high. Thanks for the memories.

You're welcome! It was a really fun game indeed. :)

great write-up. As a young kid, I read Uncle Scrooge comics, with his adventures with Huey, Dewey and Louie, the comic being a long time predecessor to the animated shows. Always fun reading, and the few episodes of Duck Tales I have seen are in the same vein, and great entertainment.

I had to google Launchpad lol, really really didn't remember the name. But it could be that I don't remember it because in Dutch the little nephews were also called "Kwik, Kwek and Kwak" so that's where I may be confused :) lol
