RUSH HOUR!

It’s been a while since we talked about something more of a comedic nature. I mean, OG level type of funny, and as I was thinking about all the films that could possibly fit into that description, this film came to mind. I wondered why I didn’t think of it sooner, seeing that it’s one of those high-ranking films where you’re talking about pure, unadulterated laughter.

Rush Hour (1998)

So, Han, a Chinese official, has taken up a diplomatic position in Los Angeles, but barely a while later, his daughter is kidnapped by opposing parties on her way to school. He contacts Lee to help him get back his daughter, and Lee is paired with James Carter from the LAPD, who is a talented officer who is despised by his colleagues for being obnoxious. He botches up a sting operation, and his teaming up with Lee is sort of a punishment for that.

The two of them soon enough hit it off, but not without a lot of underestimations and assumptions. The plan is to save the daughter of Han from the clutches of her kidnappers, but it’s more about the dangerous yet comic processes of doing that than the end goal itself.

Before amazing duos like Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, there was Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. These two have one of the most iconic bromances and screen chemistry that you could ever think of. That is where the true success of this film lies. No shades to anyone, but I remember how off and seemingly catastrophic the Dwayne and Ryan Reynolds duo was.

There are some bonds that come quite naturally and are quite obvious to the audience. Such is the case with our main leads of tonight. Even a bad script can survive if the chemistry between the actors is top-notch, and that was just how their bond was. In spades. Added so much spice to the movie.

For anyone who is seeing the film after 2014 at the very most, you may have flaws to spot out about the directing, or plot structure and all of that, but this film was acted in a time were people were still uninhibited enough to simply enjoy the drama, and for anyone who has seen the entire franchise, you would know that the true beauty lay not in the storyline, but simply watching these two men in their element.

I am not the most ardent action girlie, but action/comedy as a genre will have me sat at any time. I watched the trailer just before writing this (My first time ever doing so for this film), and I already had the giggles. But that’s as much as you can explain for a film like this. I just might watch it again – for the umpteenth time – because a film like this never really grows old. So yeah, I hope you enjoy! And oh, if you haven’t already guessed, this was my best in the franchise.

I consider this to be a great classic for both comedy and action-packed films, as well as for Jackie Chan's career. One of my favorite and funniest movies I've ever seen.

Good review.
