Cine TV Contest #134 -Beauty And The Beast (1991).
I was quite grown up when I watched Walt Disney's "Beauty And The Beast", the 1991 version of it.
I had grown up a village girl, fascinated by folktales under the moonlight because in those stories, animals spoke, tricksters danced, and sometimes, love was just a simple thing like a glance across the stream or a promise made under a resplendent sunset sky, but I had never heard of enchanted castles or cursed princes, had never watched cartoon movies and fairy tales on motion pictures. So something about this one pulled me right in, I think my love for it could have been rooted in its romantic theme, a very gripping love story that touched my heart, its very rich visuals and enchanting musicals that seemed to touch the skies, swelling and rich.
Belle had curious eyes and hungered for something beyond the ordinary, she saw magic hidden in love, a love that saw beyond what eyes could see. The way Belle saw beyond the Beast's rough exterior reminded me of the simple wisdom my grandmother often spoke.
"It is not the face, child, but the heart you must look at."
Overview;
Beauty and the Beast is one of Disney’s most beloved animated films and for a very good reason. Released in 1991, it was a groundbreaking movie, becoming the first animated film ever nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. With its rich storytelling, unforgettable music, and emotional depth, it continues to resonate across generations.
The story of a young Prince who was unkind to a beggar, unknowingly, an enchantress, who cursed him and transformed him into a hideous monster. The curse would be broken if the prince earned someone's love at 21 or else remain a Beast forever.
Belle's father was taken captive by the same Prince in his enchanted grand castle, she bravely trades places with her father and becomes his prisoner instead. The Beast, initially gruff and tormented, gradually softens under Belle’s influence, revealing a gentle and kind soul.
The spell is eventually broken and the Beast is actually a very handsome, young prince.
The animation, story, characters, and songs are all top notch with a very classy touch, a fairy-tale world that remained in my fantasy for a very long time, romantic and mysterious. Really loved the soundtracks, especially “Beauty and the Beast” which was performed by Angela Lansbury. The music drives the story and deepens emotional moments.
The movie, in its timeless message, teaches how love goes beyond the physical appearances, and how true beauty lies deep within, not superficially.
I am rating it a 9/10.
