El filme del que les hablaré hoy lo vi recientemente en la televisión cubana y créanme que me sentí muy agradecida de haberlo visto. Canción para dos, del director Craig Brewer, es un melodrama musical que, sin querer inventar el agua tibia, se sostiene completo gracias a la química brutal de sus protagonistas y la nostalgia de un cancionero de primera. La película está inspirada en la historia real de Mike y Claire Sardina, un matrimonio de Milwaukee que a finales de los 80 conformaron un dúo tributo a Neil Diamond, llamao Lightning & Thunder.

The film I'm going to talk to you about today I recently watched on Cuban television, and believe me, I felt very grateful to have seen it. The movie is inspired by the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a married couple from Milwaukee who, in the late '80s, formed a Neil Diamond tribute duo called Lightning & Thunder.
La cinta sigue el cuento clásico de estos biopics musicales: el sueño humilde, el éxito de repente, la caida dura y una redención final que busca sacarte la lágrima fácil. The film follows the classic trajectory of these musical biopics: the humble dream, sudden success, a hard fall, and a final redemption that aims to wring an easy tear from you. But perhaps its Achilles' heel lies precisely in that predictable structure, which overuses melodramatic twists that sometimes don't flow naturally. The story oscillates between gentle comedy and tragedy.

It's not a film you'll remember forever, nor does it aim to be, but it becomes a pleasant and comforting experience that works as a heartfelt tribute to Neil Diamond and to the power of music to unite and heal. A simple story, told with heart and carried by the charisma of two stars at the top of their game.
"Canción para dos" me agarró desprevenida, de esas que te enganchan y no te sueltan hasta el último acorde. La vi una tarde lluviosa de domingo y terminé con el alma hecha un nudo. Al principio, fue pura curiosidad ver a aquella estrella del pop tan engreída y al tipo rudo, como agua y aceite. Pero cuando empezaron a cantar, uff, se me aflojaron los pies. Esa canción, esa melodía que parece que la has oído toda la vida, me llegó al corazón. Sentí eso que llaman "química", pero no la del colegio, sino la que te da electricidad en el estómago. Me vi reflejada en esos dos seres que, sin querer, se van desnudando el alma entre versos y desafinadas.
Canción para dos caught me off guard—one of those movies that hooks you and doesn't let go until the very last chord. I watched it on a rainy Sunday afternoon and ended up with my soul tied in knots. At first, it was pure curiosity: seeing that conceited pop star and that tough guy together, like oil and water. But when they started singing, uff, my feet just gave way. That song, that melody that feels like you've heard it your whole life, reached right into my heart. I felt what they call "chemistry"—but not the school kind, the kind that gives you electricity in your stomach. I saw myself reflected in those two people who, without meaning to, gradually bare their souls between verses and off-key notes.
Terminé con una sonrisa tonta y un nudo en la garganta. Porque esa película no es solo de amor, es de segundas oportunidades, de cómo a veces la vida te da un golpe en la nuca para que despiertes y escuches tu propia música. Me recordó a esas tardes en el Malecón, viendo el mar y soñando con un final distinto. Es pura nostalgia, sí, pero de la buena, de la que te deja con ganas de abrazar al primero que pase.
I ended up with a silly smile and a lump in my throat. Because that movie isn't just about love—it's about second chances, about how sometimes life gives you a knock on the back of the head so you wake up and hear your own music. It reminded me of those afternoons on the Malecón, watching the sea and dreaming of a different ending. It's pure nostalgia, yes, but the good kind—the kind that leaves you wanting to hug the first person who walks by.
