Frankenstein — A gothic masterpiece

I just finished this movie and it has to be one of the best I’ve seen this period. It’s based on a book by Mary and I am yet to read it. After watching the movie; I so want to read it.

Frankenstein is the top movie on Netflix right now and it is so unlike me to watch trending movies when they are trending but this I had to see, because of the genre, the goth nature and the storyline. And maybe, because Jacob Eldordi was a main character in the movie.

It’s based off a book with the same name by Mary Shelley. Many things led to the creation of this book: the first thing recorded is it all started as a book challenge. It was a cold, stormy summer and Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, Lord Bryon and a few others were stuck indoors. The contest was for everyone to write a ghost story. Mary struggled at first, she had nightmares. One day she had this nightmare or a scientist bringing a dead body to life — that was what prompted the creation of Frankenstein.

Frankenstein was also known as modern Prometheus. Prometheus is the Titan in the Greek mythology who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans. Frankenstein was a scientist who had this ambition to create life. He succeeded in it by experimenting with dead body parts and using electricity to restore life.

When he eventually manages to create life, he rejects it. Firstly because of its appearance, he tagged his creation a monster. This creature was sidelined and treated poorly cause of his monstrous appearance and his inability to die. Consumed with grief, the creature goes back to his maker, to ask for a companion to be monsters with. Victor declines him this and that is when the violence from the creature began.

I am glad I got to see this movie. It was and is by far one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Every single character did a remarkable performance, the pacing, everything was so beautiful. It deserves every award it gets.

Thanks for reading;)

I think Frankenstein a gothic masterpiece. The themes of creation, identity, and humanity continue to resonate deeply.

I'm just writing a review about this movie, pretty solid, a good reinterpretation of Shelley's novel.
