Upgraded (2024)—Love, Lies and London skies
Happy New Month everyone, I hope I'm not too late to say it. I mean it's just the second day;) I was just going through my old notes from last year when I stumbled on the outline I wrote for reviewing this movie. Seemed I wasn't feeling it anymore and left it just where I found it. If you noticed, I'm a hard core fan of rom-coms. I like them and I know why I like them. They make the world seem so much brighter. I mean I can be going through the worst phase of my life and still find myself kicking my feets and giggling just because they finally kissed. It's crazy how much something can influence your mood and being.
Anyways, I have loved the main actress of this movie for a very long time. I was really excited to watch what wonderful performance she had for us(me). It's quite dissapointing I waited this long to talk about it. But I guess that's just how life is sometimes.

It's called Upgraded. And it's a movie of about an hour and forty minutes or more. Ana Santos is a smart, hardworking young woman living in New York City. She works as an intern at a high-end auction house, but she isn’t treated with much respect. Her boss is demanding, her coworkers don’t take her seriously, and she feels like no one sees her potential. She has dreams of making it big in the art world, but right now, she’s stuck doing grunt work while others climb ahead.
One day, Ana is sent on a work trip to London. When she gets to the airport, something unexpected happens. Her ticket is mistakenly upgraded to first class. She doesn’t correct the mistake. She just accepts it and boards the plane, hoping for one small break in her exhausting life.
On the flight, she meets a charming man named William. He’s handsome, polite, and seems genuinely interested in her. But here’s the twist. He assumes Ana is a powerful player in the art world, not just an intern. Ana doesn’t correct him. She lets him believe the lie. Just for a while. She wants to see what it feels like to be someone important.
When she lands in London, the lie follows her. William introduces her to people from his world. Rich people. Stylish people. People who could open doors Ana never thought she could walk through. She starts living in this illusion, balancing her real responsibilities at work with the glamorous identity she’s pretending to have.
Her world gets more complicated when she starts attending high-society events and catching the attention of powerful art collectors. She wears borrowed dresses, gives fake job titles, and finds herself deeper in a life that doesn’t actually belong to her.
The problem is, the more Ana lies, the more she risks losing everything. Her career. Her dignity. And William, who might actually like her, but doesn’t know who she really is. The truth hangs over her like a shadow, waiting to fall.
Eventually, it does. Everything unravels. The truth comes out in front of the people who trusted her, including her boss. Ana is exposed, humiliated, and faced with the consequences of pretending to be someone she’s not.

But from that low point, she starts to rebuild. This time, honestly. She shows her real skills. She makes bold moves. She starts proving that she never needed to pretend, she was good enough all along.
In the end, Ana learns how to stand in her own truth. She lets go of the lie. She fights for her place in the art world not by faking it, but by finally believing in herself. And maybe, just maybe, love finds her again, this time with nothing to hide.
It was lovely seeing this movie. It was beautiful, simple and heartwarming. Love is beautiful guys. Terrible but beautiful.
Thanks for reading;)

Damn. Movies like these for some reason I avoid them. I mean these tropes of pretending to be what you’re not. I guess maybe because I just don’t like them. But I like Rom-coms. Wonderful review.
Yeah, when I first started it— I was turned off. I don't like those tropes either, I wanted to just turn off the TV and go do something else but the lead actress made me see it all the way through and honestly, It wasn't that bad. I mean, I felt first hand embarrassment for her when he found out and I was a bit sad also cause she wasn't a bad person, bad things were always just happening to her...
