A beautiful day to you all!

It's another time to review a movie I watched yesterday. It's titled "A Widow's Game." When I saw this movie on Netflix, I ignored it, thinking it wouldn't be fun, especially when I checked there was no form of action in it. But after days of scrolling through my list and not finding any movie that interested me, I had no choice but to just see this, but it was worth it in the end.

This movie is based on a true life story and an event that took place in Valencia, Spain in 2017 - "Black Widow of Patriax." This was about a murder case which was acted out and it made me learnt something that had happened and how things played out. That's something I love about movies based on true events. They always look more real to me than the fictitious ones.

Plot

A murder happened in a garage. Antonio is killed, and when the detective comes to check, it is concluded he was stabbed multiple times with a big kitchen knife out of pure rage. And then the investigation began.

Back in 2016, Maje (26 years) and Antonio (36 years) got married in a church and were living in an apartment whose renovation was an expensive one. Maje was working two jobs which she was using to fund the renovation. Maje was cheating on Antonio by having extramarital affairs with men, and when her husband questioned her, everything turned out to be bad.

Maje lies to Antonio about going out to meet her friends but secretly hooks up with the other men. On one of those days, she returned home late in the night, and when Antonio asked where she was all night, she got angry, especially when Antonio asked who Daniel (one of the men she was secretly seeing) was. Antonio only saw a beep on her phone's screen and saw the name pop out. I guess he only wanted her to tell the truth, but she was mad and asked why he would check her phone.

At the end of the day, she conspired with someone to murder her husband in 2017 justifying her actions that he was violent and always abused her. Eva (Carmen Machi) is a detective on the case and with her team, they began investigating to know the culprit.

After two months, Eva requested a judge to look into Maje's call records and in the process, they heard some ongoing conversations between Maje and a guy they did not recognise yet. Who is this guy?

Seriously, I felt Maje was being selfish in her marriage and do not care for her husband. First, it was known that Maje had cheated before the wedding happened which Antonia forgave her and here she is, cheating after the wedding again.

Why go ahead to marry when you still cheat? In the movie, she was having affairs with 3 men. Antonio, on the other hand, was a cool guy who loved her, but I don't think he deserved such treatment from her. All he wanted was her time but she was always out with these men instead of being at home.

Why did she think of killing him instead when she could just get a divorce and leave? That part is what I don't get. Killing isn't the solution, I would say, but another part is how an older man who had an amazing son and a beautiful wife could be manipulated to do Maje's dirty work, making him regret his actions in the end.

I'm very sure he would lose his family because of this. Many times, we do things without thinking about the future and how it's going to affect us. I guess Maje intentionally used him because he was vulnerable and weak because of his love towards a young lady over his wife.

What pained me most was how Eva's colleague was murdered, too, on duty, and that hurt Eva so much.

The movie was perfectly executed and I love everyone's performance. They delivered well, and I would appreciate the effort put into such a true crime movie.

I rate this 8/10 because the narrative is a compelling one, and I'd recommend it to anyone willing to watch and find out what took place in the year 2017, mostly the pretence from Maje. From the look on her face at first, one would think she loved her husband but she was a different person both in the day and night.

You just added more reason why women should be feared. I wonder why someone would consider to murder her husband instead of opting for divorce.

avatar

Hahaha. How did I do that? Lol
Some women are actually good sha. Don't be afraid. Lol

If I were asked to blame someone, then I would blame Antonio who went ahead to marry a woman who cheated on him before their wedding.

It is even more absurd when he has that knowing that his wife was unfaithful. Why not divorce and leave peacefully?

Why tolerate such toxicity so much that it ruined his life?

Omo, Antonio no do well at all. I guess he suffers from clingy trauma

I also blamed him, too because why marry someone who already cheated? It's still good to forgive her but once a cheating person will always be especially for a woman who didn't give regards to her fiance and just when they wanted to get married. That's a big red flag.

A very very big red flag that should not be ignored.

Forgiveness does not always subscribe to allowance. Yes he needs to forgive her but not marry her.

I think Maje hard a low IQ on how to get away with cheating without hurt anyone. I also asked myself same question, Why cheat when you have a loving husband? If you're tired just quit.

I believe Antonio should get justice, it shouldn't be swept under the carpet. Eva did the right thing for sure, I am pleased to hear that someone is trying to discover the truth about the death of Antonio.

Yes, Antonio got the justice and I loved how it ended that way. It shows no bad person goes unpunished.
