CineTv Contest: Tarzan - A classic story about self-discovery and the complexity of family bonds

Hey guys from Cine TV, I hope you are all doing great. Of all the Disney animated movies I saw when I was a kid, I thought The Lion King was the best. However, I recently watched it again and it didn't captivate me that much, probably because I've gotten used to not letting myself get carried away by nostalgia, so for this #cinetvcontest I preferred to choose a film that became my favorite from Disney after watching it again as an adult, I'm talking about Tarzan.

What you hated about it?

The way the villain has a catastrophic demise by pure convenience and karma, however, this is something very typical of Disney animated films, on the other hand, the final scene with all the characters living happily in the jungle seems nice and funny to me, but I also think it is too absurd that Jane and her father decide to abandon everything to move to the island and live there in the same style as Tarzan. Anyway, I cannot complain much about it because this is how Disney's ¨magic¨ work.

What you loved about it?

The truth is that everything else about Tarzan is spectacular to me, first of all, we have the terrific soundtrack, every time I see this movie the Phil Collins’ songs move me for their beautiful lyrics and deep meanings, second of all, I love that the development and pacing of the story is dynamic and clear, there is not a single moment where things become a chaotic mess, third of all, I consider that the emotional tone is well balanced, all sad or happy scenes feel organic, fourth of all, I love how the movie heavily uses the show don't tell technique to tell the story, this mean the dialogues are smart, clear and precise.

What part of it did you find most interesting?

The whole Tarzan's self-discovery journey, from the strong emotional connection he establishes with the rest of the characters, especially with those he considers his family to how he learns from his mistakes and improve and the way he ends up unifying his animalistic side with his human side.

Any scene that still pops into your mind?

There are several scenes that stand out for me, starting with the one at the beginning that shows you in parallel two different families being victims of a tragedy, on one side we have a mother who loses her son and on the other a child who loses his parents, when Kala meets Tarzan for the first time is very tender and touching, symbolically I see this as a second chance and a gift to both characters.

There is also the beautiful moment when Kid Tarzan got angry for being different and Kala shows up to comfort him, or the one with Tarzan learning the wonderful things from the world where Jane lives and vice versa. However, the most powerful, poetic and heartwarming moment in the whole film for me, is the one with Kala showing the adult Tarzan the place where she originally found him and he discovers who were his human parents. The music, the visual composition and what both characters say to each other here is wonderful.

In conclusion, although this movie is not an original Disney story, I think it is a masterpiece of animation in general, if I had to rate it I would give it a 9/10.

Now I want to know: what do you guys think? 😎
