Movie review, Second Time Around

This movie is produced by a Nigerian pastor, Laju Iren. He has produced quite a number of interesting movies, and this is one of them. The movie, titled Second Time Around, starts with a man called Brune preparing his daughter for school because his wife has died. He tells his daughter, T.J, to guess what he prepared in her lunchbox. The daughter replies that she knows it will be perfeit because that's the only thing her father knows how to prepare, and that's what she always takes to school every day.

She drops her off at school and goes to his office. In his office, his friend advises him to hire a new HR because since Brune's wife died, they haven't gotten another one. Brune's wife was the HR before she died. Some hours later, He gets a call from his daughter's school that T.J forgot her lunchbox in the car. Brune says he'll send someone, but the teacher insists he come himself.
Brune asked why, The teacher explains that it's checking day for parents to come and check on their children and know how they're performing well in school. She also shares that T.J was moody on Mother's and Father's Day because no one came to see her in school. Brune promises to do better.

When he picks up his daughter, the teacher still mentions that T.J always brings the same lunch to school every day and she saw her one day trying to exchange her perfeit for jollof rice. And that she is the only one that always come early to school and also the last person to leave school because her father is always late to pick her up after school. Brune promises to do better. After that, Brune asks Miss Cassie, the teacher, to help take care of T.J for two weeks while he's busy at work, and Miss Cassie agrees.

As they spend time together, Brune and Miss Cassie start to fall in love, but Brune hasn't let go of his wife in his heart. Miss Cassie also falls in love, but she wants Brune to love her genuinely, not just because she can care for his daughter.

One day, Brune's mother visits while Miss Cassie is there, but Brune sends his mother out. Miss Cassie is surprised and asks him why. Brune explains that his mother refused to sign for his wife's medical treatment while he was away for business trip because she wanted her to give birth like a Hebrew woman, and not through cesarean section resulting in the loss of his wife and son.

Miss Cassie tells Brune that his actions are justified but that he needs to forgive his mother. Brune forgives his mother and eventually opens his heart to Miss Cassie, and they become lovers.

The movie is an interesting one. I learned that before someone falls in love with another person, especially after a broken heart or loss of loved ones, there should be healing. Healing comes first because without total healing, that person might hurt the new lover's feelings.

Additionally, I learned that people often misquote or misunderstand the verse about Hebrew women. The Hebrew women were helped by midwives during childbirth, so giving birth naturally or via cesarean section is also giving birth like a Hebrew woman. Many people have lost their lives due to a lack of understanding, thinking they must give birth naturally without medical assistance.

The movie also highlights the importance of mothers in a child's life. Brune, being a busy father, often forgets to pick up T.J from school or remember special events like Pajama Day, leaving T.J feeling sad and different from her peers. But mother's never forget all those things. Fathers are always occupied with so many things, so many things on their mind but mother's will always keep every details.
