My type of Movie - Ladies of Hive Contest #286

If you had asked me this question a few years ago, I would have answered without even thinking. Back then, I watched a lot of series and movies, and it was easy to say what I liked but now, it’s different. Time doesn’t really allow for that same level of binge watching anymore i used to have and my relationship with movies has changed. These days, I don’t think I can confidently say I’m strictly a fan of one genre.

That said, I still lean a bit toward action movies. There’s something about the fast pace intensity, and the adrenaline that makes them exciting, but then again if I’m being honest, action movies have started to feel repetitive. It’s like watching the same storyline dressed in different clothesbig explosions, a nearly invincible hero, and a predictable ending. Its like watching Jason statham movies over and over again. It doesn’t hit the same way it used to.

Horror movies falls flat for me too. I got to a point where nothing really felt scary anymore. I would watch them and just see through all the tricks, cheap jump scares and predictable plot twists but that belief was shaken when I watched Welcome to Derry alone, at night. That experience humbled me. I won’t even lie, I was genuinely spooked, Lol!. It reminded me that horror can still do its job when it’s done right and when the setting is just perfect (or imperfect, depending on how you look at it).

Romance is a different story. I wouldn’t say I watch a lot of romantic movies, im not even really into them but there’s one that stands out to me and that is Everything, Everything. That movie is special to me in a way I can’t fully explain. I’ve actually been saving it to watch again someday, with my future wife. That’s how much it means to me, It’s one of those rare movies that makes you smile from beginning to end, i for sure smiled form beginning to end, i didn’t even realise i was smiling throughout and it carries a kind of emotional warmth that stays with you long after it’s over.
But if I had to choose a genre that truly fits me now, it would be murder mystery. The suspense does it for me, the tension and the mental engagement that comes with trying to figure things out. I enjoy being part of the story, guessing who did it, questioning every character, and getting surprised when I’m wrong. It’s not just entertainment; it feels like a challenge.

If I think about a movie that taught me an important lesson, Everything, Everything stands out again. Beyond the romance, it carries a deeper message about living life fully and not letting fear control you. It shows how easy it is to become trapped physically or mentally and how important it is to take risks, even when they’re scary.

So while I may not have a clear “favorite” genre anymore, I’ve come to appreciate movies in a different way. I
