Gardens - August 16, 2025 @goldenoakfarm

On Saturday morning, I wasn’t moving too fast but I was determined to finish the Small garden so I’d have 2 gardens done. So I got my post up and was out there by 6:30AM. I harvested the side shoots from the broccoli, then the baseball bat sized zucchini. The white pumpkin is doing excellently as it does each year.

Tom arrived at 7AM to do the foliar and he got a lot of photos of the gardens.

He also climbed up in the fort and got this photo of the finished Small garden.

And this one of me cleaning up to move onto the New Herb garden.

I took this one of the hibiscus and Big rose.

I rested a while as the humidity was really high and I was having trouble breathing. Then I got all my equipment to work in the New Herb garden and headed over there to start weeding the first 3 rows. It had been well over a month since they were done.

But what greeted me were plants sprawled all over the walkways. So I started at the end of Row 1 and started typing up plants. By the time I had the 3 rows tied up, I really couldn’t breathe due to the humidity. So I cleaned up and got my photos and notes and went inside for a shower and to rest.

Tom finished the foliar spraying shortly after I sat down and we sat and visited for a while.

When he left I got some lunch and sat down to watch a favorite movie of mine.

I read for a while after that and then went out and processed the broccoli. I got 2 meals as these are 1½ pint containers.

Late afternoon we got a terrific downpour. It came straight down and I only had to close 1 window. We got 1½ inches in about ¾ of a hour. We really needed it.

I just read until bedtime at 9PM.

On Sunday I have to get out and mow early as I have to do both the yard and the barn area. That will take at least 4 hours, especially after getting rain. In the afternoon I am going to another classical concert. I hope I get enough rest so I stay awake…
