Alright, so recently I decided to start watching something new something I could finish without having to spend months on it. After a bit of scrolling and random recommendations, I ended up picking Mob Psycho 100. Honestly, I didn’t plan it at all. A friend sent me a meme from the show, and when I asked what anime it was, he just said “Mob Psycho.” I didn’t even check reviews or trailers I just hit play.

And wow, I’m glad I did. It turned out to be one of the most surprisingly good anime I’ve watched this year.

Before Mob Psycho 100, I had just finished Jujutsu Kaisen a completely different kind of ride. While Jujutsu Kaisen thrives on intensity, dark curses, and slick fights, Mob Psycho feels more introspective. It’s about self-growth, emotions, and what it means to live a normal life when you’re anything but normal. The story centers around Shigeo Kageyama, better known as Mob. He’s this quiet, socially awkward middle school kid with unbelievable psychic powers. The twist? He doesn’t really care about being powerful. All he wants is to be an ordinary guy who can talk to people without panicking especially his crush, Tsubomi Takane. But whenever Mob’s emotions hit 100%, things literally explode.

To keep things under control, Mob trains under Reigen Arataka one of the best “fake it till you make it” characters ever created. Reigen is a self-proclaimed psychic and total con artist. He has zero actual powers but somehow ends up as Mob’s mentor. What makes him so interesting is that, despite all his lies, he’s genuinely wise and gives Mob some of the best life advice you’ll hear in any anime.

The show’s plot follows Mob as he tries to balance his psychic life with the challenges of being a teenager. Along the way, he meets real psychics, evil spirits, and organizations that want to use his power for their own gain especially a group called Claw, a band of espers who think world domination is a good idea. But Mob isn’t driven by revenge or glory. His real struggle is emotional learning that feelings aren’t a weakness but part of being human.

One of the best parts of the anime is Dimple, a mischievous ghost who starts off as an enemy but later becomes Mob’s companion. He’s funny, annoying, and weirdly charming, adding that extra layer of comedy that keeps the story from ever feeling too heavy. Visually, Mob Psycho 100 is a masterpiece. The animation style might look simple at first glance, but the fight sequences are some of the most fluid and creative I’ve ever seen. Every time Mob reaches emotional overload, the screen turns into a chaotic mix of color and motion that perfectly reflects what’s going on inside him. It’s intense, but also beautiful.

Another great element is the Body Improvement Club a group of muscular guys who motivate Mob to better himself physically instead of relying on psychic powers. It’s wholesome, funny, and surprisingly deep. Their motto improving both mind and body perfectly sums up what the anime is really about.

What truly sets Mob Psycho 100 apart is how it mixes humor, action, and emotion without losing focus. You can go from laughing at Reigen’s ridiculous confidence one minute to tearing up at Mob’s quiet moments of growth the next. It’s not just a story about psychic battles it’s about identity, purpose, and growing up.

And even though it’s packed with supernatural elements, the real power of the show is emotional. Mob’s journey isn’t about destroying enemies it’s about learning self-control, understanding emotions, and realizing that strength isn’t measured only by what you can destroy, but also by what you can endure.

So yeah, Mob Psycho 100 blew me away. It’s short, powerful, and unforgettable.

If you’ve finished something intense like Jujutsu Kaisen or Attack on Titan and want an anime that hits both your heart and your funny bone, this is it.

Like I said earlier it was really good. And if you decide to watch it, I bet you’ll end up saying the same thing too.
