I Byeol-E Pil-Yohan (Lost in Starlight) - Music And Love Arrive On Mars [ENG -ESP]
There is a special excitement or feeling in “realistic” science fiction anime, those that deal with a future era and what the advancement of humanity would be like at that time. This is even more interesting when it does not deal with centuries or millennia in the future, but rather a time that is a little closer and that we could even live to see. I Byeol-e Pil-yohan, also known as Lost in Starlight, is a film about humanity's goal of creating colonies on Mars, something we are experiencing today, and about how in 2026, after a major earthquake, all the astronauts on Mars lost their lives. Now, 25 years later, in 2051, the daughter of one of the deceased astronauts tries to be part of the new expedition to the red planet.
Our protagonist is Joo Nan Young, a young genius scientist who is responsible for creating a robot capable of detecting life forms on Mars, even at the cellular level, which would allow us to know what kind of creatures or microscopic beings may inhabit the red planet. She is also the daughter of one of the astronauts who died 25 years ago on Mars and who, it seems, has never allowed herself to grieve for her mother's death. Instead, she tries to be cold about the subject, claiming that she was too young to remember her mother, but we can see how the trauma of her mother's death affects her at various moments, especially when she was sending a video to Earth and she kept it.
With Nan Young's clear goal of reaching Mars, her life on Earth seems to be quite lonely and without much personal interaction, knowing that one day she will leave for Mars. However, by chance, she ends up meeting Jay, a young musician who also likes to repair old musical instruments, which is exactly what Nan Young was looking for as she wanted to repair her mother's old record player that was recovered from the accident on Mars. Although it seems that she simply wanted to repair it on a whim and did not want to connect emotionally with anyone, we soon see how both Jay and Nan Young begin to interact and start dating, creating a romantic relationship.
Although the relationship that develops between Nan Young and Jay is quite interesting and shows how Nan Young gradually begins to appear happier and enjoy Jay's company, which she thought was irrelevant, while also showing how she supports Jay with his own traumas and insecurities about his past as a musician, we are also shown how everything seems to happen very quickly, and although its development is entertaining, the beginning of it all feels quite forced, or that they simply didn't show how their relationship began and made a time skip to when they are already a couple.
At the end of the story, we see how both Nan Young and Jay somehow manage to overcome their traumas and decide to face their fears to achieve their goals. They even support each other across the distance when Nan Young is sent on a mission to Mars and communication becomes very complicated and delayed. Something I found quite exciting was the way their relationship evolved and how each of them managed to continue with their goal when they separated, even though, no matter how hard they tried, you could see how being apart affected them and the uncertainty of whether they would see each other again. The only aspect that I found a little absurd was the ending of the story. Although stories with happy endings are entertaining, in this case, the ending had everything in place to be a tragic, moving ending with a clear message about pursuing your dreams regardless of the risk, but in the end, it ends up being a happy ending with a rather unexpected salvation, a cliché where the power of the script invents an absurd development to save the protagonist.
Although personally I thought the ending could have been much better, the overall development of I Byeol-e Pil-yohan is quite good. It shows the human side of a person who, no matter how talented they may be, also has their traumas and difficulties, which they often prefer to simply ignore in order to appear strong, but which are always present until they are confronted. Its visual quality is simply beautiful, with very good detail and animation quality that stands out even more in the dramatic and emotional scenes, combining very well with the futuristic and science fiction aspect.

You told the story of the dream of building a colony on Mars in such a way that it seems like it could really happen. I've put this anime on my list, I'll definitely watch it.
Hey, I'm glad you liked how I told the story. It's very interesting to see.
I loved the graphics of this k amine but honestly the plot bores me, maybe because I'm not much into sci fi contents.
The animation is quite good and the space scenes and hallucinations are incredible :D. It may be a matter of taste, but personally I really like romantic stories, and this film does have a romantic storyline that is a little boring compared to other stories.

This one is on Netflix right... I had long ago noted it to watch but forgot about it. It looks good, what caught my attention is the animation but the story looks interesting too, although a bit cliché, nothing different from what we've seen before. These days I'll give it a chance.
I think it's on Netflix, although they tend to remove and add anime very often, so I'm not sure if it's still there. The animation is very good, and the space elements are super eye-catching :D
