Suzume | Review

Hello, everyone! I'm back once again to talk to you about the latest movie I saw related to the world of anime. I'm still catching up on all the things I missed over the last four years. One of these things, which had been on my mental list for a couple of years or so, was the movie Suzume.

¡Hola a todos! Vuelvo por aquí una vez más para hablarles de la última película que vi relacionada con el mundo del anime. Sigo poniéndome al día con todas las cosas que dejé de ver en los últimos cuatro años. Una de estas cosas, que había tenido en mi lista mental durante un par de años aproximadamente, era la película Suzume.

Every day, Suzume leaves home as usual and heads to school. During her journey, she encounters someone she has never seen before, an unfamiliar boy who she finds attractive. Like any 17-year-old girl who sees a new boy in town, she is naturally drawn to him. The boy in question is Souta, who travels around Japan looking for ruins. A small encounter triggers a big problem: the opening of a portal from which a worm emerges, causing natural disasters. Both Souta (turned into a three-legged chair) and Suzume must travel around Japan, chasing a cat and closing the portals so that the worm does not destroy the cities.

Cada día Suzume sale de casa, como es costumbre, con rumbo al colegio. Durante esta travesía se tropieza con un personaje que nunca había visto, un chico desconocido que le pareció guapo, pues como cualquier chica de 17 años que vea un chico nuevo en la ciudad, obviamente le va a llamar la atención. El chico en cuestión es Souta, quien viaja alrededor de Japón buscando ruinas. Un pequeño encuentro desencadenó un gran problema, la apertura de un portal de donde sale un gusano que ocasiona desastres naturales y tanto Souta (convertido en una silla de 3 patas) como Suzume deben recorrer Japón, persiguiendo un gato y cerrando los portales para que el gusano no destroce las ciudades.

I am a fan of Makoto Shinkai's films, and this one was no exception. I love how he handles the stories and mixes a bit of supernatural fantasy with the daily, real-life routines of human beings. That subtle touch between one thing and another makes the film appealing and interesting. The animation and all the art in the film is sublime. The sound and music are also commendable because they draw us in and allow us to experience the story alongside the protagonists.

The plot has everything: a beautiful romance, action scenes that keep you glued to the screen, and emotional encounters with human beings. I think you have to be Japanese to understand the background of the story much better, because if we look at it from the point of view of a foreigner like me, we can simply observe the magic. But when we learn about the stories of the ghost towns that exist in Japan after the historical disasters of that mythical country, we can understand the film much better.

Soy fan de las películas de Makoto Shinkai, y esta no fue la excepción. Me encanta como trata las historias y mezcla un poco de fantasía sobrenatural con la rutina diaria y real de los seres humanos, ese pequeño y sutil roce entre una cosa y otra, hace que la película sea atractiva e interesante. La animación y todo el arte de la película es sublime. El sonido y la musicalización también es meritorio porque nos hace quedarnos atrapados y vivir la historia a la par de los protagonistas.

La trama presenta de todo: un bonito romance, escenas de acción que te hacen no querer despegarte de la tele, contactos emotivos con seres humanos. Creo que hay que ser japoneses para entender mucho más el trasfondo de la historia, porque si lo vemos desde el punto de vista de una extranjera como yo, podemos simplemente observar la magia. Pero cuando conocemos las historias de los pueblos fantasmas que existen en Japón después de los desastres históricos de ese mítico país, puedes comprender mucho más la película.

We can see the repercussions many years after they occurred: separated families, orphaned children who still feel a void, the ruins of places where people once lived normal lives and which are now uninhabitable. It's sad, it's powerful, and I know it's a latent fear for many residents.

I found it to be a beautiful and moving film that brought me to tears. One of the most beautiful things I've seen in recent days. I recommend it 100%, even if you're not a regular anime viewer. Podemos ver las repercusiones después de muchos años de que hayan ocurrido: familias separadas, hijos huérfanos que aún sienten un vacío, las ruinas de sitios en los que vivían personas que hacían una vida normal y que al día de hoy están inhabitables, es triste, es fuerte y sé que es un miedo latente para muchos habitantes.

Me pareció una película hermosa y conmovedora hasta las lágrimas. Una de las cosas más lindas que he visto en los últimos días. Recomendada al 100%, así no seas un asiduo consumidor de anime.
