Kimi no Iro (The Colors Within) --- a lighthearted awe-inspiring movie!

It's been frustrating for me the past few days because I'm forced not to work due to our Internet connection problems. I've been using data internet since Sunday and I'm worried about the upcoming bills. T_T

So, in order to distract myself from this inevitable thing, I decided to watch an animated film called Kimi no Iro or The Colors Within in English. It has been on my list for a while now, so I finally decided to give it a shot.

Higurashi Totsuko is a high school student in an all-female Catholic school. She has the ability to see the colors of others.

Instead of merely seeing the colors, she can feel them. She feels the color of excitement, happiness, serenity, but among them, her favorite color is what she felt when she saw Sakunaga Kimi, another student from her school.

It's this vivid blue color that always captures her eyes and heart. However, Kimi suddenly decided to drop out of school, which made Totsuko really sad. She wanted to see her beautiful color again. She headed to town after hearing rumors that they had seen Kimi manning one of the bookstores. She didn't know which one, though.

Luckily, a white cat somehow led her to a used bookstore in the far corner of town. There, she didn't only met Kimi, but she ended up meeting a guy named Kagehira Rui.



The three of them ended up forming a band. Every Sunday, they'd practice at an old church on a remote island where Rui lives.

Fate and music have brought them together. It's a story of friendship and people discovering their true colors.

This is such a beautiful movie!
I originally bookmarked this one because I thought the art style was amazing. I mean, it truly is. The animation style is also to my liking. It utilized transitions that capture the story better... and there were instances when beautiful scenes were shown, just like these screenshots below.

I don't know why, but I just love anime that includes such panels. It makes me appreciate the art and animation more, just like in "Children of the Sea" or "Redline".

However, for this anime, it's not only the visuals that got me. The storyline itself is lovely. It portrays relatable things that may occur in our everyday lives. It's deep and personal, but they showed it in a lighthearted way.



All the characters were interesting, especially the three main ones. However, Sister Hiyoko resonates a lot with me. She reminds me so much of my high school.

When I transferred schools from the countryside to the city, it was still in a Catholic school. You'd expect nuns to be strict and even boring to some extent. (I mean, let's be honest.) However, I have a favorite sister in our school. She's our guidance counsellor, and I used to frequent her office.

I love talking with her! She made my high school life more fun. I still visit her from time to time with my mom. They became besties at some point. hahaha

Anyway, Sister Hiyoko is so cool! I love her character so much! ^^




Lastly, the music is great! I didn't know what a theremin was until I watched this anime... and it sounded so wonderful. I especially love it when Rui plays it.

The band's songs are so fun to listen to, and it was amusing to watch their performance at the end.

This is the kind of anime in which I came for the art, but stayed for the story. I love stories like this --- raw, realistic, relatable... introduced in a lighthearted and creative way.

Having said that, I highly recommend this movie. It only runs for an hour and 40 minutes... and even if it were longer, it'd still be worth your time. :)
